Minor creation has so many intresting options, so please share your ideas or/and experience with this power wiht the rest of us.:D

ps. i know it was originaly a spell but since the power is lower level, i thought it might be more used by Psions, therefore i post it here...

1) Create flamable oil to light up dark rooms (or enemies:evillaugh)

2) Create improvised weapons

11) Create a large-sized padded hamster ball with 1' holes to manifest through. You get dispellable cover, and something soft to land on if you fall a long way.

12) Poison, poison, poison.

13) Power stones (from all the money you save by not buying items)

14) Food and alcohol

15) A life-vest if you're hydrophobic

16) Recreate a book you had memorized with Autohypnosis

I love minor creation, but I wish there were a way to lower the manifesting time. I know, I know; homebrew. But it can be so hard to get DMs to swallow homebrew material.

17) You can also ceate amber and sell it for a nice profit (or perhaps just pay with it)

18) Cover (make a wooden wall in just 1 minute)
InkBlot

19) Create a big map with a 1" grid
20) Create little figurines of monsters and stuff
21) Create enumerated platonic solids (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Platonic_solids)
Linked Power?
Too cheesy.

17) You can also ceate amber and sell it for a nice profit (or perhaps just pay with it)I create "grenades". They are hollow amber shells filled with plant-based contact poison, or flammable plant-based oil. You can include a cotton wick on the oil grenades, if desired. Since these are somewhat complicated, the DM is likely to call for an appropriate craft check, though.

There is a good analysis of uses by Lokyin in the Psion Buildguide (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=624041).

22) At level 1, take Psicrystal Affinity and 3 instances of Improved Psicrystal (Flaws!), give your psicrystal Hidden Talent (psionic minor creation), Psionic Talent (for a total 4pp), boost its Cha by 1, then have it create (then roll around in) various really nasty contact poisons to protect itself from getting picked up as it scouts through a dungeon for you. Even better if it can create poisonous pine pitch so it can set itself on fire. :D

23) Make a surfboard.. or a really large wooden shield that you can use to surf downhill on an icy mountain. Like Mad Martigan and the little gnome dude in Princess Bride.

:D

edit: Willow (sorry my memory is sketchy.. today)

Soul Crystal, Magic of Incarnum.

Nice catch. Thanks. That does work, although it's only available six levels after you get fabricate (which can transmute 10 cubic feat of stuff as a full round action). You could also use it to speed up major creation or fabricate.

Hmmm... soul crystal of fabricate... Full Metal Psionicist?

edit: 24: Put minor creation into a soul crystal, cover the soul crystal in quintessence, rinse, repeat. Give a small bag full of these to the rogue. He'll never say "oh, I wish I had picked up a (insert mundane object here) while we were in town" again.

25: Create a large hollow wooden sphere (there's a thread around here somewhere with details.)

26: Create a large wire basket to hold the caltrops (but allow liquid to flow through easily).

27: Create enough of your favourite contact/injury poison to cover all the caltrops

28: Create enough caltrops to fill said wooden sphere.

Step 1: Use teleknisis and the large wire basket to dip the caltrops in said poison.
Step 2: Load the poisoned caltrops into the wooden sphere.

Voila! Auto clear up cluster bomb for siege warfare in 5 minutes. 1-20hr life span.

(Sorry, we just hit the city defense section of RHoD last night - DM no no'd my ideas for getting the horde chemically addicted to something (refined poppy resin), wasn't keen on the above and a few other ideas I had for this simple power)

You're welcome, though most of the credit goes to Slagger the Chuul, here (http://forums.gleemax.com/showpost.php?p=13955379&postcount=5).
I believe he was the first to find out that, but I could be wrong.

We have a cart, so the weight isn't a problem. I ring our campsite with them at night, and have my psicrystal collect them in the morning while everyone is preparing spells. I take first watch so that I can get my power point(s) back from Minor Creation.

If you spend the extra pp to create the caltrops, they'll clear themselves up in the morning & you'll still recover the pp.

And aged oak can be just as hard as granite.

Have you ever tried to cut an old oak beam with a hacksaw? Good luck on that, if you ever do.

Nevermind aged. Ever heard of petrified wood (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petrified_wood) (Hardness 7)? :D

(or would that be pushing your luck on the whole vegtable matter bit?)
PhaedrusXY

11-16-07, 05:17 PM
There are also exotic wood materials in the game that are as hard as steel or harder. I forget the names. Bronzewood? I know the hardest one is in Eberron. Lokyin mentions it in his big long thread about using Minor Creation.

After thinking it over, I don't think I'll be making the wooden caltrops. I am not really gaining anything, and it costs me another power point or two.

Edit: Yeah, Bronzewood has hardness 10 and 20 hit points per inch, making it as hard as steel.
Lycanthromancer

To DracoPhoenix: That'd be pushing your luck. Technically there's nothing vegetable about petrified wood, since it's stone.

But oak is still 100% veggie, even if it is over 200 years old.

edit: Also, don't forget about fiendish hardwoods and animated plant matter.

31) Rope (always usefull eith lots of rope)

Probably not directly, but don't forget, covering someone in, say, (33) super heated sunflower oil (I don't recall temperature fixed to any particular temperature) could get pretty nasty.

Also,
(34) In the desert : Cactus - for all your water needs.
(35) Coconut shells : for when walking isn't fast enough (:cookie: For the Ref)
(36) A shrubbery. With a nice wooden picket fence. For those dastardly awkward side quests. Just don't hang around too long. (No :cookie:).

Why give a cookie for one of them but not for the other when they come from the same movie?

Soarwood
Soarwood is a magically bouyant wood that weighs 75% as much as normal wood. Boats made of it go at twice the normal speed, and fluff states that it floats in air (though it can be presumed that it can carry no payload)
38) Create a boat
39) Send a signal by launching a giant piece of soarwood into the air (establish a system beforehand and you can communicate at long distances with different shaped pieces of soarwood: heck just make giant letters/runes).
40) Gain a circumstance bonus on swim checks to prevent drowning.

Tar
41) Burn it for to create a thick black smoke. Signal fire, obscure visibility, and in theory make it hard to breathe.
42) Caulk your ship/ make something watertight.
43) Mix with linseed oil to make paint

Miscellany
44) Create peat or firewood to stay warm
45) Create a seal out of wax, or a candle to produce light
46) The Chinaberry plant is a natural insecticide, and will ward away most vermin (Requires DM Fiat)
47) Poisons

Soarwood would be neat, but you can't make magical stuff using minor creation. Even if it's naturally magical.

Minor Creation

Conjuration (Creation)
Level: Sor/Wiz 4 Components: V, S, M Casting Time: 1 minute Range: 0 ft. Effect: Unattended, nonmagical object of nonliving plant matter, up to 1 cu. ft./level Duration: 1 hour/level (D) Saving Throw: None Spell Resistance: No

You create a nonmagical, unattended object of nonliving, vegetable matter. The volume of the item created cannot exceed 1 cubic foot per caster level. You must succeed on an appropriate skill check to make a complex item.

Attempting to use any created object as a material component causes the spell to fail.

Material Component: A tiny piece of matter of the same sort of item you plan to create with minor creation.

48) Make a block of wood and throw it at people. Also useful for the 2.345654% of people who use slings regularly.

49) Create somatic components and sell it to the unsuspecting wizard's lackey who is out shopping for components for his master.

50) Make enough blocks of wood to spell "Use for Minor Creation Number 50" and enough blocks of wood to build a house. Make a natural adhesive to glue the works and the house together, then glue the words to the house. You'd need a lot of power points, though.

You'll also need to work very quickly. Even at L20, they'll only last 20hrs (extend power not included).

But by that point, a gate / portal to the elemental plane of earth and fabricate could probably get you a nice stone hut (I think there's rocks in the EPoE)

(or in the colder climbs, EP of water for a hotel made of ice :))

Actually that might not be true.

I went through the books to search for a precedent on how to treat naturally occuring substances that have quasi-magical effects.

As you can immagine there are few of these but there are a few.

The majority of these items are the byproducts of a magical enviroment rather than magical themselves. Things like glowing fungus or sap that protects against poisons. However i did find a clear cut similarity.

Weirwood is a naturally occuring wood that in addition to its extremely clear tones has a specific magical effect (The generation of a candle strength light glow [1d4+1 rounds] after exposure to a magical light source, just as soarwood while natural has a clear magical effect (the weight lessening effect)

Rare even in the abundant forests of Aerenal, soarwood possesses a magical buoyancy. Ships made from soarwood skim effortlessly over the surface of the water. Soarwood is a necessary component of the airships and elemental galleons manufactured by House Orien and House Cannith.
The speed of a boat or ship made from soarwood is double that of an equivalent boat made from ordinary wood, and the cost is four times normal. Soarwood has the same physical characteristics as normal wood (hardness 5, 10 hit points per inch of thickness), but weighs only 75% as much.

Basically for all its traits, soarwoods only mechanical effect is a 25% reduction in weight than normal woods (which means that, in theory materials the same or lesser weight / volume would substitute in)

Anyway, back to wierwood.

Wierwood is classified as an extraordinary natural item.

What this boils down to is that Unless otherwise noted, the special abilities inherent in these substances and items are extraordinary abilities and they remain in effect even in areas where magic does not function

While not direct, it isn't far out of field to claim that all naturally occuring items that have extraordinary effects fall under the same general umbrella category "extraordinary natural items"

Which is basically a long winded round about way to say that i disagree that soarwood is a magical substance, on the same order as say, a potion of cure minor wounds.
