20th level Warforged Psion [Archive] - Wizards Community

My DM is running a one-time thing, all of us players (8) make a single 20th level character, and we all face each other in one-on-one combat.

I'm wanting to do a Warforged Psion, problem is he's alone, unlike most characters these 20th level characters won't have team-mates. That means no meatshields to protect casters, no flanking buddies for rogues, etc...

This obviously will effect how the characters are built. I'm just wondering, if you were in this situation what powers & feats would you pick?

I've thought about posting this in CO but I usually don't get good feed-back there, and I also figured posting this in the Psionics Forums made a little more sense, since anyone looking here knows about psionics.

Personally, I'd go Shaper. You can get Psionic Repair which is better than Vigor for constructs, and you can think your own meat shields into existence. Not to mention a slew of other interesting and useful powers. Are you allowed any prep time before the fight (that is, time to buff / do stuff?)

Only do that if your DM ignores the Astral Construct nerf, though (since it's useless)

Absolutely go Shaper, and if you can use it, Constructor. There is a Warforged 10/Constructor 10 example Psion in the Psion Buildguide (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=624041). I'd also take Adamantine or Mithril Body. Mithril is better in the long run, if you can afford to boost your Dex up high enough. I've played on Warforged Shaper (9th level) and am about to play another one (only 2nd level) starting tommorrow. I think they are quite effective and fun.

One combo you might consider is Control Body + Solicit Psicrystal, so you can fight and manifest powers at the same time. This works better if you take Expanded Knowledge: Metamorphosis to turn into something nasty beforehand (like a 12-headed hydra).

Also as alluded to above, the classic combo of Psicrystal + Share Pain + Vigor is even better, as you can also share Psionic Repair Damage with your Psicrystal, effectively getting double healing from it. You may need to turn it into something with hands for the DM to allow it. Astral Construct make nice metamorphosis forms. :P

You can also make literally barrels of plant-based contact poison for free with Psionic Minor Creation that will last for hours, and costs a single power point. And you're immune to it, and so is your Psicrystal. So there is no reason not to coat yourself and all your gear in it. :P

Oh yeah, if you max out Use Psionic Device, you can give your Psicrystal Dorjes, Power Stones, etc, and get off an extra power per round.

As a Warforged can i get psionic tatoos? I'm pretty sure i can, but it seems kinda weird...

Also I personally like Psiforged, being able to treat yourself as a cognize crystal, but I don't want to ruin myself. Does anyone have opinions on this feat? Anyone ever used it?

Psionic tattoos need an appropriate surface to be placed on. The example inappropriate surface is a water elemental, which doesn't really help us here since there are many reasons why the elemental wouldn't be able to wear a tattoo.

Anyway, I'd say that a warforged could indeed wear a tattoo. They have wooden components as well as metal, so just put the tattoo on the wood parts.

You have a surface to which the tattoos may be applied (that is, you are neither gaseous nor incorporeal), so yes, you can have them. If it makes you feel better, call them "psionic decals".

Psionic Body is an okay feat, but not great. The biggest problem with it is the opportunity cost-- You can't take any other Warforged feats with it. Note that the Warforged Body feats (Adamantine Body, Mithral Body, Darkwood Body, Psiforged Body) can only be selected at first level. Choosing Psiforged Body means you can't choose any of the others. Something that severa people have pointed out is that while the Body feats say that they count as armor, they don't technically impose armor check penalties. They merely impose flat penalties on the skills that armor check penalties normally apply to. So, even if you're not proficient with the category of armor that your body counts as, you don't take any penalty on attack rolls. On the other hand, since you're entering the game at level 20, you may be better off Overchanneling a 23-PP Inertial Armor (+15 armor bonus that works against incorporeal enemies, with a duration of 23 hours). If you plan to do that (and have sufficient buffing time that it won't interfere with your other buffs), Psiforged Body doesn't have any higher an opportunity cost than any other feat.

Okay, so at 20th i'd be fine with psiforged. But i've come to the realization that i'll play this character in the 20th level one-time session, but also that I really want to play him in an ongoing campaign. In this case he'll be 9th level. By taking psiforged and starting as a 9th level character, will I be okay or no?

if it is all one-on one combat .... great....

try this:

Warforged

Egoist 6/ Anarchic Initiate 4/ Slayer 10

BAB +16

Feats:
Overchannel(psion Bonus)
Psicrystal Affinity(psion Bonus)
Psicrystal Containment
Psionic Meditation
Track
Twin Power
Quicken Power
Expanded Knowledge(Schism)
Expanded Knowledge(Metaphysical Weapon)

forms for Metamorphosis:
Slaughterstone Eviserator(+20 Natural Armor, great Strength, Great (EX) Attacks)

Nimblewright(24 Dex, great (EX) attacks)

you could even take the Form of an ASTRAL CONSTRUCT(and get a variety of different (EX) Special Attacks)

Always Share Metamorphosis with your Psicrystal.... if you need a very strong form.....do this:

1)Temporal Acceleration....augment for 6 rounds(overchannel Extended)..and Share with Psicrystal
2)manifest Schism...and Refocus
3)second Round...manifest Metamorphosis(share with Psicrystal)..your form...Slaughterstone Eviserator, Psicrystal Form... Nimblewright
4)manifest Share Pain with Psicrystal/nimblewright...refocus
5)manifest maximum augment Vigor and Share with Psicrystal/nimblewright..and refocus
6)manifest Extended Fusion .... you and your psicrystal..and refocus
7)manifest max Augmented Inertial Armor and Manifest Quickend max Augment Force Screen ... and refocus

now you have Great AC(+20 Natural Armor + 15 Inertial Armor + Dex(24 + Enhancement item)

Listen to Carni - he's the man.

How much treasure are you given?

Watch out for those pesky clerics and their dispels.

Get a ring of counterspelling. Or even better 2 rings. Even better, get a hand of glory so you can have 3 x rings.

If you have GP - spend it on 3 x rings of spell-turning.

Good versus other psions/mages, too. :D

hes letting us have 200,000gp. and he is not using the transparancy rules.

What book is Slayer in? He's only letting us use the Complete Series, Core, Monster manuals, and Expanded Psionics Handbook.

Slayer is the SRD version of the Illithid Slayer from the Expanded Psionics Handbook. Since Illithids are copy righted, and the SRD can't contain any copy righted material, they stripped all references to illithids from the Illithid Slayer class. The result is more powerful than the original, since it's toughest prerequisite and some of it's limitations are gone.

It's best suited as a jumping off point for creating your own X Slayer class (for example, Golem Slayer or Quori Slayer).

Get a warforged psion with metamorphosis, Psionic Body, and all of the rest of his feats being Improved Psicrystal. Metamorphosis your psicrystal into something nasty while you hide and buff it from a distance, or you metamorphosis yourself and fight right beside it.

If your psicrystal gains feats (which it should)...epic psicrystal feats for the win!

No transparency???? Damn. Be prepared for tons of haggling.

Hope your DM is a good rules lawyer. LOL.

Haha! No debuffing for them! Make good use of your magic items to screw casters while getting the most out of your psionic goodness.

Make sure to point out beforehand that nontransparancy will seriously destroy any semblance of balance, however, so that psionics doesn't get blamed.

I can see it now...

Mage: "I mage's disjunction you..."
Cleric: "I cast an anti-magic field around me."
Psion: "tsk tsk." *BBBBBZZZZAATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT*
