| Nihility00703-27-07, 07:09 AM | I have a question. First I have to say I love the Idea of wilder. I love the idea of anarchic iniate even more. Now for my question. It seems the Anarchic Iniate is a natural prestige class choice for a wilder. I have one problem though. Prerequisite for AI is wild surge ability or overchannel feat, 8 ranks of Knowledge (Psionics) and 8 ranks of Knowledge (Planes). The problem is Wilder only gets Knowledge (Psionics) as a class skill; no other knowledge. That makes Knowledge (Planes) a crossclass skill. This means the only way to get anarchic initiate anytime soon is taking the Able learner feat or something along those lines. Am I missing something? Did WotC really intend on Wilders being able to become anarchic initiates when they are around lvl 12 or 13(which means they weren't meant to take all 10 levels of it) or have to take a feat just to become one in a decent amount of time? Any input would be appreciated. Also are there any wilder type prestige classes that I can look into? Thanks alot in advance. |

| Nihility00703-27-07, 08:01 AM | Hm, that's even worse. So I'm not missing anything? Am I wrong to think anarchic initiated is tailored more for wilders? Right now I explained the situation to my DM and told him that I can come up with a good backstory on where the knowledge 8 planes comes from so he might let me. I really wish I didn't have to do that though. It feels like wilders where just thrown in with no extra love :( |
| runestar03-27-07, 08:32 AM | Well, there is no erratum I know of as of yet. It follows a funny precedent though(the fiend-blooded prc in heroes of horror requires 8 ranks in knowledge:planes as well, despite it being seemingly tailored for sorcs). Quite a few spellcasting prcs also require ranks in knowledge, making it difficult for sorcs to qualify for them as well. Bottom line, I am not sure if this is an honest goof or deliberately intended.:( |
| Bacris03-27-07, 09:19 AM | When this was brought up to Bruce Cordell on his blog, he posted it was a mistake, but no official errata has ever been introduced, making this PrC better for psions than for wilders. |
| Nihility00703-27-07, 09:35 AM | So someone important has actually said it was a mistake? If you can post a link or a quote or something where that is said then that would definetly be enough grounds for my DM. Also anyone know of any other wilder-tailored prestige classes? |
| Nihility00703-27-07, 01:49 PM | I've actually found 100% proof that it was a mistake. As I was looking through the Complete Psoinic i ran into the icon for Anarchic Initiate. I'll just go over the important information. Embersage Fenwillow Female halfling wilder 7/ anarchic initiate 4 ... ... Feats: Combat Manifestation, Ectopic Form (emerald gyre), Enervation Endurance, Expanded Knowledge(astral construct) Skills: ... Knowledge (the planes) +9, Knowledge (psionics) +11... Ok, now I'll pull out some quotes directly from the book "Wilders more commonly become anarchic initiates than any other class in the game, thus having more connection to anarchic initiates than any other group" "In many ways, the anarchic initiate prestige class can be viewed as the natural continuation of the wilder class." "The wilder class provides characters both the proper frame of mind and the wild surge class feature, and thus is the most standard beginning for anarchic initiates." Now that the evidence has been presented. WotC's own icon breaks their rules! As shown in the feats selection there is no skill that allows the wilder crossclass skill of knowledge planes to become a class skill...BUT the icon is only a lvl 7 wilder! A lvl 7 wilder can only get up to half what is needed to become an anarchic initiate. Second, according to all the quotes I posted, anarchic initiate is supposedly the "natural continuation" of wilders. If that was really the case then why is this 10 lvl prestige only available to wilders without the proper feat at around lvl 13/14. Lastley, is there a way I can submit this obvious error so that there may be an errata released for it? |

| AbyssKnight03-27-07, 10:10 PM | There is an option that no one has mentioned. Multiclass with a base or prestige class that has Know (the Planes). Just taking one level means that your max ranks are level +3. You might need to buy some of the ranks at the cross class price, but you can get the ranks. |
| runestar03-27-07, 10:41 PM | yeah, but losing manifestor lvs...???:weep: Well as well take the education feat or that heritor feat in FC1, but I hate it when wilders and sorcs take to take auxiliary feats just to qualify... |
| AntiDjinn03-28-07, 01:59 AM | Embersage actually used the Realms feat Comopolitan to get the needed 8 ranks of Knowledge (the planes) by wilder level 5-7, then she continued to buy ranks in the skill as an Anarchic Inititiate. At that point she used Psychic Reformation to replace the Cosmopolitant feat (no clue why she replaced it with Combat Manifestation, she's just crazy chaotic that way) but because she had continued to purchase ranks she had enough to stay qualified. This kind of character hocus pocus is the only way Embersage could be a legal character. It probably should be Knowledge (planes) 4 ranks, but how does having a deep understanding of the plane of elemental earth, and the plane of shadow, and the second layer of Arborea help you to bond with planar chaos? I would just replace that skill with: Must have physically visited the plane of Limbo. You may actually need some Knowledge (Planes) to get there and survive the visit, but not a specific number of ranks. |
