A few psi questions [Archive] - Wizards Community

04-25-07, 01:51 AM I have a few psionics questions that I wish to submit for perusal by the more knowledgable heads on this board:

1. where is hidden talent from? I know the gist of the feat (gain access to a single 1st level power) but I cant for the life of me find it.

2. If you have access to a mantle from say ardent can you learn the powers from that mantle if you take levels in psion later. I assume this is not the case and so this leads me to my next question.

3. If an ardent 1/psion x (or any other manifesting class for that matter) takes the feat Tap Mantle can the character learn mantle powers as psion powers? the feat does not specify which class can learn the mantle powers when taking this feat. If so does this not make this feat in every way shape and form better than expanded knowledge? (well other than the expanded knowledge power not counting towards your max number of powers known).

4. Assuming the mantle power acess granted by tap mantle is not limited to ardent/divine mind levels does this mean that any manifester class can gain mantle powers through this means? eg a psi warrior learning powers from the freedom mantle.

edit: 5. Is there an ardent build guide? I find myself intriuged by this class and wanted to have a look at what other people have done with it.

3. Normally no. However a recent Mind's Eye article lists an alternative class feature for Egoists granting them the Life mantle. This fulfills the requirement for Tap Mantle, and would allow you to choose new powers from a given mantle.
4. This is what the feat 'Don Mantle' is for. Example: An Egoist with the Life mantle alternative class feature takes Tap Mantle (Freedom). If he takes Don Mantle he gains the granted ability of the Freedom mantle.
5. The optimization boards have a couple of threads on the Ardent, but they primarily focus on turning it into an easily workable psi-gish.

Hidden Talent

Your psionic talent is strong enough to manifest a single power.
Level: 1st
Replaces: Wild Talent class ability

Benefit: You gain the Hidden Talent feat instead of the Wild Talent feat at 1st level (see Expanded Psionic Handbook, page 67). You gain 2 psionic power points, can now learn any psionic feat for which you meet the prerequisites, can expend your psionic focus, and can gain a single 1st-level power from any list.

Special: Normally the Hidden Talent feat can be taken only once at 1st level, but a soulknife with this class ability can take this feat multiple times, each time gaining an additional 2 psionic power points and another 1st-level power.

The most common powers chosen with this class ability are force screen and inertial armor since they fit the theme of a soulknife, but many choose other powers.

I'd just like to point out that your quoted article specifically states that Hidden Talent is a feat in the XPH ;) The PHB2 style option came second.
