| SpoonNinja06-05-07, 10:00 PM | Could someone give me the 5 best first lvl and the 4 best second lvl powers for a Soulknife1/Psion4(Kineticist) Im not looking for a discussion, I just don't own any of the psion books. I got D&D for friday. |
| glacialcat06-05-07, 10:05 PM | http://www.d20srd.org/ All the information for psionics is under the Psionics Rule Section. Also, it might be smart to avoid saying you're trying to illegally download material on the site that sells that material.. |
| CrimsonDeath06-05-07, 10:09 PM | http://www.d20srd.org/ That has most of the information from the Expanded Psionics Handbook. The reason I'm throwing you a link instead of giving you suggestions is because I don't know what you want your character to be able to accomplish. (The main reason to play a kineticist is for psionic artillery--in which case you want Energy Missile, and the rest hardly matter-- but if that's what you want, why the soulknife level?) |
| InkBlot06-05-07, 10:09 PM | Downloading the D&D books made by Wizards Of The Coast is illegal. However, certain rules from The Player's Handbook, The Monster Manual, The Dungeon Master's Guide, and The Expanded Psionics Handbook are available online in the system reference document. (http://systemreferencedocuments.org/35/sovelior_sage/home.html) This is no substitute for the actual books, but it can be a handy reference guide. Borrow The Player's Handbook from your friends untill you can buy your own! There's no such things as the absolute best powers. It all depends on what precisely you want to do with your character. It also depends, to a lesser extent, on what other characters are in your party. For example, there's no need to take body adjustment if you have a cleric in the party. I reccomend you either take 5 levels of soulknife, or 5 level of psion. Soulknife does not multiclass well. All of the soulknifes class abilities, which are already slightly behind an average character of any other class, are all dependant on the soulknife's class level. This means that your mind blade will only be suitable for fighting the kind of enemies that you would fight at 1st level, and nearly useless for the kinds of enemies you will be fighting at your current level. |
| Lycanthromancer06-05-07, 10:11 PM | Downloading books is naughty (unless you pay WotC to download them). I know I say this a lot, but what kind of character are you building? Psionics is a well-built system, in that most (though not all) of the powers are extremely useful. If you're going meleeist, go egoist, then take: 1. Entangling Ectoplasm - Great save-or-suck, without the save 2. Psionic Grease - Good stuff 3. Defensive Precognition - ups your saves and AC 4. Offensive Precognition - you'll need this to up your BAB 5. Vigor - temporary hit points to help you survive. 1. Animal Affinity - very useful for attacks, damage, skill checks, and increased saving throws (both offensively and defensively) 2. Detect Hostile Intent - Creatures that are affected by mind-affecting effects can almost never sneak up on you 3. Share Pain - manifest this on your psicrystal after you share Vigor with it to double your hp. 4. Concealing Amorpha - a 20% miss chance is always your friend. Also, check my sig for some of the better powers in the XPH. Anyway, I would suggest, instead of taking a level in soulknife, get the Expanded Knowledge feat for the call weapon psychic warrior power. If you describe it exactly like a soulknife's mind blade, nobody will know the difference, and you'll get your soulknife coolness factor. |
| SpoonNinja06-05-07, 10:16 PM | I just want the most used powers from those levels. Im not picky, and im not trying to do anything specific. And I used that site to make my character. I don't usualy trust my judgement when it comes to picking things like this. What I usualy do is ask about recomended spells, and then if there is room left, I add in whatever that I think would be good. (I DO own the players handbook. Along with Complete mage and the spell compendium. I got geared up for playing a mage in the first actual long-term game. I never expected to die so early. I would of bought the psionic books had I the money for them.) |
| Lycanthromancer06-05-07, 10:22 PM | Well, first off, come up with a character concept, or the role you want to fill in the party. Then, we'll help you flesh it out. You can do many, many, many things with psionics. We'll show you how. :D |
| SpoonNinja06-05-07, 10:26 PM | I took the soulknife just for the first lvl stuff.(Including the d10 hp) Nothing else. Im planning to go straight Psion from now on. Our group is mainly melee'ers, and we only have one sorcerer. I didn't want to play a Wiz, cuz I allready did, and thus I wanted to broaden my horizons. But I also need to be able to take a hit, so I also took Elan as my race. Come to think of it, it's a funky allmost-but-not-really-duskblade. |
| Lycanthromancer06-05-07, 10:38 PM | If you took vigor as your first level power, you'd have just as many hp (sorry, you'd have 1 less, but animal affinity can take care of that). If you want more, take the Psionic Body feat. If you want even more, go human and take a couple of flaws to get more psionic feats. Elans are good, but their abilities are mostly "use it as a last resort if you are ambushed and if you don't use it you'll die." If you plan correctly, you won't have to worry about it. That's where share pain + vigor + psicrystal comes in. You won't have to worry if your crystal buddy takes half your damage, and your saves are high due to defensive precognition. Anyway, as I said, vigor gives an extra +5 hp for an extra manifester level, so go full egoist. THOU SHALT NOT LOSE MANIFESTER LEVELS FOR ANY REASON (other than if your particular build would benefit from the inclusion of other classes, such as a PrC). Anyway, if you must have higher level stats, go wilder 1/egoist 4. You can use the wild surge ability on your egoist powers, boosting them by 1 to cover up your lost manifester level, and you get most of the soulknife goodies, plus some (at least, with EK: call weapon). It synergizes much better than soulknife does. Most definitely. If you do so, make sure you get a power that doesn't augment for your wilder power. Entangling ectoplasm or (better yet, for a non-offensive power) call to mind works well for this. |
| SpoonNinja06-05-07, 10:57 PM | Indeed...That is a good idea. I think il do that. You tend to be blunt rather than tactful, even if it means insulting someone who you and your companions are trying to impress. If it is a matter of life and death, you may make a Will save (DC 30) to speak or act out a falsehood. However, if successful, you suffer a -4 penalty to all attack rolls, saves, ability checks, and skill checks for 1d6 hours due to feelings of guilt. Dislike of Nobility You have a dim view of the Nobility, considering them to be little more than bullies, cowards, and thieves with power and wealth. Despite the dislike and distrust, you do not necessarily make your dislike known...along with the dislike comes fear of their power that can be brought against you. When dealing with others who are obviously nobles (or the fact is pointed out to you), you suffer a -2 penalty to all social related rolls dealing with the person or people in question. In addition, once per game session (as applicable), the DM or another player can enforce this flaw to make you directly oppose or ignore a request or order given by a noble. Harbinger of Ill Omen You seem to be cursed to forever bump into a specific person, time and time again. Each time you do, something bad happens not long afterward. This person in no way does this purposefully, it just happens with alarming frequency. In game terms, this can be reflected through utilizing a specific instance of the Misfortunate flaw when the Harbinger pops up, or simply be some creatively hindering roleplay situation (DM's discretion). Jealous Lover You left behind a jilted lover or former spouse, and they now seek you, for either revenge or to win you back. They are unusually persistent, and have an annoying habit of showing up at the worst times in the worst places. This may also be taken to give yourself a "wannabe" paramour that is a constant annoyance in your life. Lecherous You have a lusty nature and a tendency to pursue the pleasures of the flesh. A pretty woman or a handsome man (however your tastes run) is an almost irresistible temptation to you. Once per game session, the DM or another player can activate your Flaw in order to convince you to give in to temptation. In addition to the one automatic instance mentioned above, you always suffer a -2 penalty to opposed checks to keep yourself from being seduced. No Retreat You will never run from combat, no matter the odds. Driven by an unremitting sense of honor, you must always fight as long as someone challenges you. Like the wolf, you win every fight but one, and in that one you die. In extreme circumstances, you may make a Will Save (DC 30) in order to negate this flaw temporarily. However, if successful, you suffer a -4 penalty to all attack rolls, saves, and skill checks for 1d6 hours due to feelings of guilt and cowardice. If for some reason an outside source (such as an ally, or a failed save against a spell or effect) causes you to flee or be pulled out of the fight against your will, you suffer a -2 penalty to all attack rolls, saves, and skill checks for 1 hour. Overzealous You are incapable of having a weak opinion. Everything you believe, you believe as if your life depended on it. Everything you don't believe in, you hate with a passion. Once per game session, the DM or another player can activate your Flaw in order to get you to strongly defend one of your opinions, no matter how inappropriate the time and place, nor what the circumstances of such an outburst may be. In addition, you suffer a -2 penalty to social checks of any sort, due to your overopinionated personality. Star-crossed You keep falling in love with the wrong people. You're the common soldier who falls in love with the king's daughter at first sight, or the hero who falls for the villain's daughter without knowing who she is. Once per game session, the DM or another player can activate your Flaw in order to shoot you with cupid's arrow yet again. This tends to leave a trail of broken hearts in your wake, not to mention a retinue of angered and concerned third parties. Possible feats Psionic mediatation(Focus as a move) psionic weapon(+2d6) Psionic body(+2 health per psionic feat) |
| SpoonNinja06-06-07, 12:28 PM | Bump |
| Tyroki06-06-07, 06:32 PM | Are you being allowed flaws? The basic flaws are kinda weak, I mean... You're getting something for nothing, so if your DM won't allow those like mine didn't, theres another site which has a list of much, much stronger flaws. And if he's still skeptical, just say you don't mind getting only one bonus feat. http://www.roleplaynexus.com/flaws.html It was the only way to get a free feat T-T |
