I'm starting with a group and I was to create a 8th level character. I love the psion class but never got the chance of actually playing one. So before I start I wanted some advice or comment from some of the more "experienced" Psion players (yes, that means YOU!)

So look over my character and speak your mind
Many Thanks!

You are taking a pretty big hit to power by having the earth gensai instead of some LA +0 race. It doesnt really give you much for this character, is it purely for flavor?

Are you going to wear armor? If not, I would suggest inertial armor over force screen. Inertial armor lasts for 1 hour/level and you can always pick up a shield later that has 0 ACP. I see that you have bracers of armor but those are incredibly expensive for very little in return. The +3 version costs 9,000 gp while a heavy mithril shield +2 is only 5,000 gp and gives a bigger benefit plus you can spend 1 pp on inertial armor to get a +4 armor bonus for 7 hours at your current level.

I believe that you are missing a feat as well. You get feats at 1, 3, and 6 plus you get a bonus feat for psion 1 and psion 5.

Are you able to use complete psionic? And what has your dm ruled on whether or not psicrystals get feats?

I'm assuming (by your power list) that you're a kineticist? It is a pretty strong choice (I have one in the game I'm running). Here are a couple points:

As a general rule, I'd avoid a race with a LA greater thatn 0 as a primary caster/manifester.
I'm surprised you don't have Detect Psionics on yor power list. How is the DM running things? Will this detect magic as well?
Where does the +2 damage come from your crossbow? I'd recomend dropping down to a light crossbow. You only lose 1 point of damage on average, and it doesn't take a full round to reload. Of course, at 7th level, you can go a while before running out of PP.
I forgot the exact name of the power, but there's a first level power called something like "crystal shard" that does 1d6 damage per PP. The nice thing about it is that it doesn't allow power (spell) resistance. This is nice, as all of your energy powers allow power resistance.
I noticed Point Blank Shot on your feat list. Are you planning on taking Psionic Shot?

Hope some of these things help.

EDIT:
You can wear any armor with an ACP of 0. Thus, you can wear a mithril shirt with no penalty whatsoever.

I am doing a Teifling Nomad in my next game, I specifically chose the +1 LA due to UnGhodly good stat rolls.
( I will take the ML hit not to get the "OMFG, Psi is teh Brokenez!!" from my co-players. )

*(My DM is allowing me to trade the standard Tiefling Spell-likes for a Kalashtar's bonus PP progression... Basicly, I'm a Kalashtar with feindish bloodline.)

* feats; 1st lv psycrystal affinity and psionic body (bonus), 3rd lv point blank shot, 5th lv psionic endowement (bonus), 6th lv greater psionic endowement.

* the choice for the genasi is purely flavor

* Thank you I'm going to change Force Screen for Inertial Armor, it is indeed better!

* How can I wear armor or use a shield if I do not have the required feats? can someone please explain!?!

* to Rageheart; I had the same idea, I roled very high numbers and believed that my psion would be a bit overwealming for the other players so that's why I chose the genasi.

* I did not choose Detect psionic because the DM uses Psionics are rare (forgotten realms setting) and there are three other characters in the group who can cast detect magic. The DM uses magic and Psionics are different but interact rule (-4/+4).

*The heavy crossbow was also chosen for flavor, but am now a bit confused; If it takes a full round to reload I can still fire it in that same round, right? I just lose my move action and provoke attacks of opportunity, right....? or does it take a full round to reload and than I'll have to wait another round to shoot, because that would be crap!

*+2 damage for the crossbow is due to the point blank shot feat and I intend to use Bolt arrows only wich are unaugmented +1

* I haven't given the psionic shot feat any thought is it a recommendation?

* Crystal shard is better! that will be changed as well

Thanks for the input so far, very helpfull ;-) !

What you've got looks good, Amoris. Taking a single-level hit isn't that huge of a penalty, especially when you consider that, as a native outsider, you get proficiency with light armor and all martial weapons for free. (By the way, you're not a humanoid. You're an outsider (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/typesSubtypes.htm#outsiderType) with the native (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/typesSubtypes.htm#nativeSubtype) and possibly the earth (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/typesSubtypes.htm#earthSubtype) subtype.)

* How can I wear armor or use a shield if I do not have the required feats? can someone please explain!?!
Anybody can put on a suit of armor and pick up a shield. If you're not proficient, then you take the armor check penalty on all attack rolls and Strength- and Dexterity-based skill checks (not just those checks mentioned in the Player's Handbook as being affected by the armor check penalty). The trick, then, is to find armor and shields with a -0 check penalty. Shields would include the Mithral or Darkwood Heavy Shield, or a Masterwork Light Shield or Masterwork Buckler. (I'd suggest the Heavy Darkwood Shield. It's just under 300 gp for a +2 shield bonus, and it's not like a psion needs his off-hand for anything.) Armors include Padded, Gnome Twistcloth, Leather, Masterwork Studded Leather, Masterwork Sharkskin, Mithral Chain Shirt, and Mithral Breastplate (or Chainmail) of Nimbleness. Masterwork Sharkskin grants a +3 armor bonus for just under 300 gp, but for your level, the Mithral Chain Shirt is probably better with a +4 armor bonus for 1100 gp.

To summarize, for the price of those Bracers of Armor +3 (9000 gp), you could get a +1 Mithral Chain Shirt (2100 gp) and a +2 Heavy Darkwood Shield (4287 gp) and still have 2613gp left over, and have an AC that's six points higher, plus you don't need to know Inertial Armor or Force Screen, freeing up an additional power known. (Alternatively, for 9387gp, you can have a +2 Mithral Chain Shirt and a +2 Darkwood Heavy Shield, for a total of +10 to AC.) The only time you'd be better off with Inertial Armor and Force Screen would be if you're fighting something incorporeal, and if you are, you should probably move so that a melee-type is between you and it anyway.

A heavy crossbow takes a full-round action to reload and a standard action to fire, so you would, indeed, spend an entire round reloading and then need to wait for the next round to shoot. For that reason, light crossbows are generally regarded as being more useful.

Crimson's advice is all good. Heavy crossbows are generally shoot-and-drop weapons unless you have Rapid Reload, yeah. Since you'll be proficient in martial weapons, though, there's no reason why you can't swap it out for a composite longbow and get a decent melee weapon while you're at it. This will also allow you to trade bolt for crystal shard.

Also, earth genasi are described as wearing chain shirts in their monster entry. This means, according to the Outsider type's features, an earth genasi is proficient with light armor, though not with shields. Inertial armor doesn't stack with other armor bonuses, so you may want to stick with force screen. Both powers are force effects, however, so they'll come in handy against incorporeal monsters.

For non-armor/weapons equipment, I'd buy dorjes of commonly-used utility powers, including force screen and inertial armor.

If you want you can get some cheap light armor, get it up to +1, and then enchant it with a bunch of special abilities while using inertial armor to actually give yourself a real amor class boost ;)

this is the best idea......as the regular Armor bonus(from the Light armor) still functions in an Anti-Magic Shell/Null Psionics field, or after your Inertial Armor has been Dispelled
