SHORT VERSION: I'm a level 6 psion nomad, need a planeshifter build. Can research spells will be going extra planar, party will depend on me to survive.

LONG VERSION: I am currently playing a campaign where my characters flavour an Elan native to the astral plane, and my party was attacked by a party of Githyanki. To save me one of my companions threw me through a colour pool, which sent me to the material plane of Ebberon ( where the rest of the players are, A gnome beguiler, a warforge monk, and a halfling ranger)
Curently I am currently level a 6 psion nomad. We will probably be going extra planar during our campaign ( probably when we a at least 6 levels higher) but I was trying to plan ahead as my party will rely on me to survive.

Then all you really need is the Planar Vanguard (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/psm/20031219a), Its the psionic plane specialist.

Here is what needs to be done to update it (i've done this before but it got pruned)

Class SkillsThe planar vanguard's class skills (and the key ability for each skill) are Climb (Str), Concentration (Con), Diplomacy (Cha), Intuit Direction (Wis), Knowledge (all skills taken individually) (Int), Profession (Wis), Psicraft (Int), Remote View (Int), Ride (Dex), Search (Int), Speak Language, Survival(wis), and Swim (Str).

Power Points and Powers discoveredRemove all reference to class specific power point gain, replace it with the generic, "This class adds to a previous classes power progression if the character has more than one psionic class, yadda yadda" its pretty generic

Psionic CombatDelete this

0th Level PowersDelete this too

PsicrytalsReplace this with a reference to the psicrystal progression rules.

Other than a slight tweaking in genesis to match the new psicrystal terms its pretty much a simple conversion.

A Nomad is good enough. They get Survival and Knowledge (any) as ckass skills. I played a nomad with maxed Knowledge (The Planes) and +13 Survival (which I also could've maxed out), who knew Plane Shift and Teleport. If I'd wanted to go plane-hopping earlier, Astral Caravan and a few tattoos of Astral Traveler could've done the job.

A middling dip of Elocator gets you plane-hopping at reduced pp costs, but you give up one ML to get the cut-price Plane Shifts. Buy the ranger scrolls of Resist Energy (as a party) if you're going anywhere near an elemental plane (if you don't already have the relevant resistances, that is). Energy Adaptation is probably useful in such circumstances if you have it, and the Planar Handbook has useful stuff on general advice, even if none of the class options are any use to you.

Hmm, not done any planar campaigns, but I would have thought:

Dead useful:

Planeshift (for obvious reasons)
Teleport - where available
Knowledge (planes). Though you don't need a material component / Focus, you will still need enough information on a plane to shift there.
A towel.

Optional:

Knowledge (geography) (for teleport),
A copy of hitch hikers guide to the Planes,
You Wits,
Contigent Teleport

If it's going to be a planar campaign, ask your DM if you can research augments for powers such as adapt body where the range becomes "touch," and a sub-augment that allows you to affect multiple creatures simultaneously.

For instance:

Augment: 1. If you spend 2 additional power points, this power's range becomes "Touch." Its saving throw becomes "Fortitude negates," and its power resistance becomes "Yes."
1a. For every 2 additional power points you spend, you can affect an additional creature.

At higher levels, Dream Travel can get huge numbers of creatures from one place to another, although it takes a bit longer than teleporting/planeshifting.
