| necrosnoop11004-10-08, 07:01 PM | Would this combo work? Could I grant my party True Metabolism? I know Affinity Field says only 3rd level powers but it also says, "heal all wounds as you do." Also, does the feedback loop work outside of the 20' radius after it's be established? That is do those effected need to stay within that 20' after the Affinity Field is set up for those in the 20' radius. Thanks, Necro |
| Lycanthromancer04-10-08, 07:06 PM | In this case, I think the 'healing' aspect overrides the portion about '3rd level effects or below,' since the heal spell would likewise heal your companions, and effects such as disintegrate would be transferred as well, since it causes damage. Basically, non-healing, non-damaging effects (such as being stunned or dazed or entangled) aren't transferred through. Damage and healing, though, do, regardless of their source. In this case, the hit point damage would be healed, but missing limbs and so on would not regenerate. See my powers revision for an (unofficial) errata on the subject. |

Cheers, Necro |
| Lycanthromancer04-10-08, 07:32 PM | 1) ThanksYou are quite welcome. 2) Would these healing effects work if the targets moved outside of 20' after the Affinity Field was established?Any instantaneous effects remain...um...in effect, permanently, but once someone exits the field, they are no longer affected by any changes you undergo later on until they're back in the field. 3) Could you give me a direct link to your suggested changes I can't seem to find it. Cheers, NecroCheck my sig. It's under one of the sblocks. |

If you don't have any damage and manifest True Metabolism within your Affinity Field, no one else in the area benefits because you are not being healed. AF shares healing, it does not share potential healing that is not taking place but would be if you had damage. |

However, if this makes it necessary for the psion/wilder in question to stab him/herself just to heal other people then it may well be more intelligent to ignore this requirement completely. The game has enough silly in it as it is. |
| AntiDjinn04-11-08, 02:44 AM | If the psion has taken 50 points of damage, then True Metabolism will heal 10 points per round until he is fully healed. Anyone else in the area will also heal 10 points per round (if they have damage) as long as the psion is healing. When he stops, they stop. If you were to just manifest True Metabolism by itself when you are at full hit points, it would grant you no benefit. If you take no hit point damage before it expires, then you get no benefit. Adding Affinity Field means you get to share this lack of healing with others. By the way, all healing shared by Affinity Field works this way. If you have 2 points of damage and someone casts Cure Critical Wounds or Heal on you then you heal 2 points. If anyone else is in the Affinity Field they also heal 2 points, even if the roll was substantially higher. That is just how AF works for healing, at least for effects above 3rd level; the effect itself is not shared, but any healing you experience is matched in other subjects. Whatever healing you receive, they receive the same amount. And if you want to remove silly combo results then just line out Affinity Field. It has been the seed for more broken combos than 3.0 Trigger Power and Body Fuel. |

It has been the seed for more broken combos than 3.0 Trigger Power and Body Fuel. I am envisioning a very specific PC - DM exchange, for example: [After combat] Psion PC: Okay, so combat's over. I'll use affinity field to heal everyone for 170 points of damage. DM: But you're not damaged. PC: Right, but I have this light pick, see? I'll just stab myself for an automatic critical hit... that's an average of ten points per round. DM: *sigh* Okay, if the rest of you are willing to fail your Fortitude saves versus Affinity Field then you all heal up roughly 170 points of damage as the psion shoves a light pick through his guts every round for seventeen rounds. Personally I wouldn't require the Psion to undergo self-inflicted pick wounds. I don't know whether you can autocrit yourself, but that's not the point. |
| The_Mess04-11-08, 01:25 PM | I'd probably make the character make a will save of some sort to damage himself. That's just not the sort of thing a normal person can do easily. |
| CrimsonDeath04-11-08, 03:55 PM | What silly combos? Even if it doesn't work that way I don't think sharing True Metabolism with a small group is out of line for a 9th level power. Two psionicists with Bestow Power can recharge each other in an Affinity Field. It's also the cornerstone of the Suicide Nova. I'd probably make the character make a will save of some sort to damage himself. That's just not the sort of thing a normal person can do easily. Adventurers aren't normal people. |
| The_Mess04-11-08, 10:34 PM | There's abnormal and then there's psychotic. Wait, that does describe most adventurers! |
| BloodSpill04-11-08, 11:49 PM | Off-topic: I believe adventurers are often summarised adequately as murderous hobos, but that might be something only considered true on rpg.net. |
