| protosswarrior08-30-07, 05:15 PM | Note that this is a continuation of the thread "A Lot of Questions", so if you haven't read that here's the link : http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=911508 as for those who are up to speed, here are my powers: Powers known: • 1st= energy ray, control flames, control light • 2nd= control sound, body equilibrium, control air • 3rd= body adjustment, dispel psionics, energy bolt • 4th= death urge, energy adaptation, energy ball • 5th= adapt body, psychic crush, fiery disoperation • 6th= retrieve, mass cloud mind, psionic disintegration • 7th= decebrate, energy conversion, psionic moment of prescience • 8th= recall death, true metabolism, matter manipulation • 9th= psionic etherealness, reality revision, microcosm any suggested changes are fine (espicially considoring there the whole point of this thread) |
| Jaid08-30-07, 06:12 PM | you're shortchanging yourself now... you get 2 new powers at every level, and you start off with 3. that means that at level 20 (assuming no multiclassing etc) you should have minimum 5 first level powers, 4 powers from each level 2-8 (provided you don't choose lower level powers over higher level powers), and up to 6 powers from level 9 (though if you can find 6 9th level psionic powers that you like, i'd be a little surprised) try taking a look in some of the already established threads about awesome powers. i think there's some in the psion buildguide (should be linked in the important threads sticky) if you're unsure about something (i understand mass cloud mind is generally considered pretty unimpressive, for the record) |
| AntiDjinn08-31-07, 01:35 AM | Fiery Discorporation is fairly lame. People get excited about it, but it doesn't work as well as they think. It only kicks in when you would take enough hit point damage to kill you (as in, if you are an elan just save yourself with Resilience) and not when you are killed by other means (death effects, poison, stat damage, negative levels, annihilation, Mind Seed, being Baleful Polymorphed into a jellyfish in the desert, etc.). Instead of taking damage you shift 1 day into the future, but otherwise you are just as you were before you used the power (not reset to full hits, and you are not considered to have rested for the day). Basically, you give the rest of the world 24 hours of Time Stop relative to you because they have a day to rest and prepare for your return (a DC 20 Psicraft check by any observer names the power; they can figure out when and where you will return). You party may or may not be there to help you the following day. For comparison, see Indomitability (Wiz/Sorc) in SC: It also blows off one attack that would have done enough damage to kill you, but without making you loose a day in the process. Choose a power that lets you get things done (as in earn some XP) instead of one that makes opponents wait an extra day to kill you. You only get a limited number of slots, so why have one just sitting there? Are you really expecting to get butchered near a fire every day? If not, then get the power in a one-shot item, if you bother with it at all. |
| SlanderPanic08-31-07, 10:43 AM | Needs more ego whip and power resistance. |

| protosswarrior08-31-07, 10:37 PM | just in case this helps w/ what powers i should know, here's my party: 1 psion (me) 1 wizard 2 fighters (one sword and board, one archer) 1 rouge 1 bard 1 cleric 1 druid in other words, i have an 8 person party |
| BobBarker09-01-07, 09:38 AM | Needs more ego whip and power resistance. "When a problem comes along, ego whip it! Before the cream sits out too long, ego whip it! When somethings going wrong, ego whip it!" otoh, too much ego whipping gets real annoying, real fast. Also, with a druid, cleric, and wizard in the party, I don't think your group should have many problems. |
| protosswarrior09-01-07, 12:50 PM | "When a problem comes along, ego whip it! Before the cream sits out too long, ego whip it! When somethings going wrong, ego whip it!" now that is hilarious! so heres my updated list: Powers known: • 1st= energy ray, control flames, control light, control object • 2nd= control sound, body equilibrium, control air, ego whip • 3rd= body adjustment, dispel psionics, energy bolt, telekinetic force • 4th= death urge, energy adaptation, energy ball, psionic true seeing • 5th= adapt body, psychic crush, power resistance, psionic major creation • 6th= retrieve, mass cloud mind, psionic disintegration, aura alteration • 7th= decebrate, energy conversion, psionic moment of prescience, insanity • 8th= recall death, true metabolism, matter manipulation, psionic greater teleport • 9th= psionic etherealness, reality revision, microcosm, tornado blast also, do psions start out w/ psicrystals like wizards w/ familiars or do you need to take the psicrystal affinity feat? |
| Ryuoch09-01-07, 01:35 PM | you may be the only Kineticist I've ever seen who didn't have energy missile. I guess you can live with out it but it is darn handy. you may want to sub control air or body equilibrium for energy missile. *edit* and if you so switch energy ray for crystal shard |
| Fafnir09-01-07, 02:54 PM | also, do psions start out w/ psicrystals like wizards w/ familiars or do you need to take the psicrystal affinity feat? Nope, you need the feat. |
| Omen_of_Peace09-01-07, 04:26 PM | You should really check out the Powers Known table at http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/classes/psion.htm : you get 5 level-1 powers 4 level-2 (at most) powers 4 level-3 (at most) powers 4 level-4 (at most) powers 4 level-5 (at most) powers 3 level-6 (at most) powers 3 level-7 (at most) powers 3 level-8 (at most) powers 6 level-9 (at most) powers The "at most" is there to indicate that you can learn a power of a lower level. So your list needs one more level-1 power and one less level-6 or higher power ; also, you are using higher level slots to learn extra (more than 3) level-6 to level-8 powers : it's fine, you just need to be aware of it (because you'll get them later). True Seeing is level-5. |
| protosswarrior09-01-07, 07:17 PM | You should really check out the Powers Known table at http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/classes/psion.htm : So your list needs one more level-1 power and one less level-6 or higher power ; also, you are using higher level slots to learn extra (more than 3) level-6 to level-8 powers : it's fine, you just need to be aware of it (because you'll get them later). i have no idea what that means, can someone translate? |
| Jaid09-01-07, 07:34 PM | keep in mind that when you learn new powers, you choose powers that you are able to learn. thus, at first and 2nd level, your maximum power level known is 1, and you have learned 5 powers by that time. thus, you have 5 level 1 powers known. at level 3, you learn 2 more powers, which can be first or second level powers. you could have 5 level 1 and 2 level 2, or 6 level 1 and 1 level 2, or 7 level 1 and no level 2 - it's your choice (many will probably choose to go with level 2s, but that's their choice). once you get up to higher levels, there are some levels where you only learn 1 new power (these happen to coincide with when you gain level 6, 7, 8, and 9 powers, respectively, and again when you would learn level 10 powers if there was such a thing). so at level 3, you could know 7 level 1 powers, but those powers are at the expense of knowing any level 2 powers. (note: i said earlier that you gained 2 powers known per level... this is true only at certain levels, i was confusing things with wizards ( :pbbbtt: ) and if that caused you confusion, i apologise) |
| AntiDjinn09-01-07, 08:40 PM | The best way to make sure your 20 level build is legal is to build it level by level, not from 20th down. Make your first level psion choosing 3 first level powers from those available (your class discipline list + the general list) and choose your feats from those for which you qualify at that level. Then add the two first level powers you gain for progressing to 2nd level and advance your skill and hit points. Then just keep adding levels until you reach 20. It is a good idea to plan ahead; select powers and feats that will synerigize well with what you intend to take later, but keep in mind that the character also has to be able to function at each step along the way or he won't live to see the next level. Remember that at every 4th level you get a stat gain which you will probably put into Int. This may give you an additional skill points from that level forward. If you ever take the feat Open Minded you get 5 skill points that may be spent at that character level only. When people build a character from the top down, skill totals is an area they frequently screw up, especially with multiclassing. You can't save skill points, you can't borrow them from your future, so at any given level the build must be legal as far as cost of skill ranks and total ranks allowed. Again, avoid this by making the character level-by-level as though he was actually in play. One power of special note: Psychic Reformation. In play, it will let you change your power, feat, and skill choices (for an XP cost). It means by the time your character actually reaches 20th level he may have had several temporary builds. For example, he might not have carried a sub-optimal feat until just before he planned to take a PrC that required it, then retroactively exchanged it into a lower level. This power it taken into account in play and the character still must remain legal at every step. |

| InkBlot09-02-07, 07:02 PM | Control light and control air are both a bit rubbish. If you want to be able to light up a dark room, a torch (mundane or everburning) would be better. If you must have a power for it, try my light. It doesn't require concentration, leaving you free and able to actually contribute to the adventure. If eye beams are too goofy for you, ask your DM if you can describe the light comming from something else - like a glowing orb floating a foot away from you. If all else fails, your psicrystal can help you navigate through unlit places (it has darkvision). Control air can't create winds fast enough to actually do anything until about 10th level or so. If you have a druid in the party, then don't both learning control air. The druid can do much better much earlier with control winds If you're planning on using control sound to foul up verbal components, make sure you clear it with your DM first. Be sure to bring up the silence spell that clerics get, the fact that you can't use any powers while concentrating on control sound, and the fact that the spellcaster could still attack you with spells that don't have verbal components. Body adjustment isn't a very good power if you have any other source of healing in the party. A cleric, a druid, or even a paladin or ranger with a wand of cure light wounds. It's not a bad power to get in a dorje, but see if you can find a dorje of it made by a psychic warrior (they get it at a lower level). With energy missle, you really don't need energy bolt and energy cone. Especialy energy bolt. If you're hungry for more energy powers, try to pick up ones with secondary uses - energy wall, energy stun, energy push, energy retort, et cetera. Psychic crush gives targets a +4 bonus to their save, and doesn't have an augmentable DC. Don't take it, please. I'm begging you. Anything would be better than psychic crush. Even mind thrust would be a better choice at that level. Matter manipulation is an odd choice. I can only assume you have some esoteric reason to want to permanently increase or reduce an object's hardness. Is it to dig through walls? Because a sonic energy wall would be better for that (infinite damage that ignores hardness for only 5pp). |
| Fafnir09-02-07, 07:36 PM | Matter Manipulation is cool. So is Control Air. I agree with Inkblot for the rest, though. |
| sijigs09-02-07, 09:20 PM | Just at a glance, it will be hard for this character to survive at lower levels if you hardly have any defensive measures. As mentioned by other people on this thread, it would improve your chances greatly if you invested in something like force screen to bump your AC or vigor to increase your hit points. You can always take these powers at lower levels and change them via retraining etc (if your DM allows). |
| InkBlot09-02-07, 10:39 PM | I don't see Light Armor Proficiency or any notes about multiclassing, so I assume you're going unarmored. Get inertial armor for the love of all that is good! Inertial armor first, then force screen if you don't want a darkwood shield or mithral buckler, then defensive precognition if you want extreme protection. You can't use Force Of Will. It's an antipsionic feat. It says "you cannot take or use this feat if you have the ability to use powers (if you have a power point reserve or psi-like abilities)" at the bottom of it. Take Improved Toughness (CW) instead of Psionic Body. It'll give you more HP. You don't have many psionic feats (no, metapsionic feats don't count). Don't take Chain Power. There's like one or two powers in the whole of the XPH that it works with, and I don't see any of them on your power list. Meanwhile, you have energy current, which does everything you would want Chain Power to do anyway. |
| sijigs09-03-07, 05:28 PM | What Inkblot said. :D |

| InkBlot09-03-07, 06:42 PM | Take Psionic Body at 1st level, instead of Toughness. This way you get more HP at low levels, when it's most needed. At 18th level, if you still want more HP, take Toughness. What books do you have access to? Do you have Complete Warrior and Complete Psionic? If you have Complete Warrior, then take Improved Toughness instead of Toughness. Improved Toughness does not require anything other than a +2 Base Fortitude Bonus, which you will have long before then. Improved Toughness will give you +18 hit points at 18th level. edit; Carnivore is a zealous optimizer. His build would be a little more valuable in a fight, but your build (as of post #21 in this thread) would be just fine in as is. In fact, my own advice to you in this post isn't completely necessary. It's only a few HP of difference. If you're doing things right, you won't get hit often enough for it to matter. |
| protosswarrior09-03-07, 07:38 PM | What books do you have access to? Do you have Complete Warrior and Complete Psionic? my dm is core PHB 1 and XPH only also, apperently the wizard in my party is going to be a diviner, with no evocation (i don't really see how a wizard can function without spells like fireball and magic missile, but i digress...) so i'll be doing all the blasting, keep that in mind when you offer edits to my power list |

Get rid of biofeedback and exchange it for a power that increases your AC. Or if you're expecting to be hit - get vigor instead! Do not underestimate it's value. Get the Extend Power feat if it helps. FYI - Diviners own Evokers at medium to higher levels... |
| AntiDjinn09-03-07, 09:19 PM | Biofeedback is one of the best bargains in the game -- for the psychic warrior. Not so much for the psion or wilder. For a mere 1 point the psychic warrior can have DR 2 (same as a 10th level barbarian). After being hit 5 times that is 10 less points of healing he needs, after 10 hits that is 20 less. All for 1 power point and a standard action to manifest. At 4th level he can augment that to obtain DR 3. Given that he probably spends many rounds holding down the front line, 2 or more points coming off every hit means much less work for the healers later. For the psion it is probably not worth the effort. It costs 3 points to get DR 2 and you won't be able to augment that to DR 3 until 6th level. As a psion you don't tend to stay in combat and take lots of nickel and dime hits; when you do get hit it tends to a single massive wallop. |

| AntiDjinn09-04-07, 05:00 AM | There are a handful of powers that if you plan on using them frequently as a psion, it is worth a feat to pick up the psychic warrior version. Body Adjustment is one example. The psion version is 1 level higher, a difference of only two points for 1d12 and the augmentation cost is the same, it doesn't seem like a big deal, but it is. Taking the average of 6.5 points of healing on 1d12, here is your average return in terms of (hit points healed/power points invested) rounded to 1 decimal: Psion: 1d12: 1.3, 2d12: 1.9, 3d12: 2.2, 4d12: 2.4, 5d12: 2.5 PsW: 1d12: 2.2, 2d12: 2.6, 3d12: 2.8, 4d12: 2.9, 5d12: 3.0 Note: Elan resilience has a (points of damage prevented/power points invested) ratio of 2, and it is considered inefficient. The psychic warrior version beats resilience for cost efficiency at all levels, while the psion only does when he heals 3 dice or more. Evade Burst is another example of such a power, with a much higher cost difference. To duplicate Improved Evasion (the only version you really want, since you have a poor Reflex save) costs 17 points as a psion, a mere 9 for the psychic warrior. |
| Mesiolan09-04-07, 07:40 AM | I have played a human kineticist up to mid level, and was the main blaster of the PC party. The bread 'n' butter power was Energy Missile for blasting, followed by Energy Wall for battlefield control and steady damage. Crystal Shard was for SR/PR or high save opponents only. Energy Cone/Bolt/Ball opportunities were rare compared to Energy Missile targets. You'll NEED Dispel Psionics, Psionic Dimension Door, and something for personal AC. My favorite feats were Overchannel and Empower Power. The first is great for pushing up the DC and the total output of the powers. The latter increases your damage/PP ratio as soon as you hit Lv. 6. It is better than Maximize Power, up til Lv. 18. If you get access to Complete Psionics, grab Privileged Energy for a greater damage output. The feat is nice up to Lv. 10, when most foes get too many HP to be defeated by direct damage attacks, and energy resistance is common. A few other things: 1) Don't forget your companions. You'll be playing with four full casters, so complement your powers with the spells of your fellows. Speak about roles before you go off to the dungeon - the cleric is for healing/buffing, the druid is for summoning/blasting/buffing, the mage is for divination/dispelling/enchantment/buffing, and your part is blasting. So be the best blaster you can be. Don't care about buffing your companions, it's not your job. 2) Use your PP sparingly. Use them when you need to, but the PP are spent faster than you'll expect. Count on your fellows to mop up the opposition, after you blasted the foes for serious damage. Don't drop another Energy attack into the fray, if it's not required for survival. just in case this helps w/ what powers i should know, here's my party: 1 psion (me) 1 wizard 2 fighters (one sword and board, one archer) 1 rouge 1 bard 1 cleric 1 druid in other words, i have an 8 person party 3) You will be playing in a LARGE (8 PC) party. I DMed a 6 PC party with animal companions, and two cohorts. It led to bored players and limited attention spans. There is too much to do and keep track of in a single combat round. So do yourself and the DM some favors: 3.1 Keep things simple. Don't use Astral Construct - the druid will be spamming the battlefield, which will take game time. Limit your powers to things, which do direct damage or "save or suck" damage. Don't use powers which require additional dice rolls from your DM every round or continuous attention. 3.2 Do your homework, for every rules questions bogs down game play. Be prepared for every question concerning psionics or you character which may come up. 3.3 Don't hog the spotlight too often. Don't PWN the foes all yourself, the other players won't like it it they feel useless. |
| hovnarr09-04-07, 08:54 AM | Are you starting at level 20? Either way, the good thing is, there's Psychic Reformation (and Bend Reality to emulate it) so you can always change your power selection later on if you realize something was bad. Great for learning and testing powers as a player new to psionics. 3.3 Don't hog the spotlight too often. Don't PWN the foes all yourself, the other players won't like it it they feel useless. This is the most important thing I've come to realize myself while playing psions. Being able to go nova and wipe out everything doesn't mean you should. It might be necessary in maybe 5% of the encounters. Rest of the time, go for supporting your other party members and let them shine. It will save you pp to boot. |

| DanteApollyon09-04-07, 04:18 PM | quick note form of doom is nuts..! This is what you can do in one round with form of doom (already in form of doom.) you use dissolving touch on one of your tenticals and dissolving weapon on your sword both instant powers, then you can use energy ball max augment fire subtype for a total of 20d6 at level 20 Instant power, anyware from you suck and rolled all ones 20 damage to 120 damage then fire Breath of the black dragon using your maximize power feat for a total of 120 damage if the save is failed. then you attack with your weapon 12d6 dissolving weapon power max augmented + the damage of the weapon say 1d10 you have a great sword, this power last for a full round so you get 3 swings with it like that, (if your strength is 18 thats an automatic 12 Damage) (say 16 damage from the three hits with the sword) (and 30 from the power.) now your tenticals which do 2d8 each plus the 12d6 of the dissolving touch plus 1/2 your strength (thats an automatic 8 damage) (say 24 from the tenticals) (and another 30 from dissolving touch) and you are also using bite of the wolf so you get a bite attack also another 4d8 points of damage in one round! (say 22 damage from the bite) Thats 312 Damage in one round from one character, (note i used 50 as the damage from energy ball, which you would need the feat that gives you another psionic power to have. how can this be right? |
| carnivore09-04-07, 04:19 PM | a quick question on the powers you have chosen: 1st= Why psionic daze ... it is nice to take away someones actions, but this power is: [Mind-Affecting] and Will save Negates..... many things will make thier Will Saves, also you dont need it if you take Mental Disruption......Grease or Entangling Ectoplasm are far better, and will work even when you get very high levels Why Control Object??? 2nd= Why mental disruption if you took Daze??an additional drawback...both powers cause an effect that only lasts 1 round touchsight is not a 2nd lvl power 3rd= Why telekinetic force.... if you want to do damage with Telekinesis...Telekinetic Thrust is what you are looking for 4th= Why death urge, again, it is a Mind-affecting power that Will Save Negates...also it only does little damage if they are not holding a melee weapon, they make you use up an AoO to hurt them Why psionic dimension door, ...... it is not a useful Tactical power, as you cant do anything until your next turn 5th= ok 6th= Why mass cloud mind, unless you are boosting the Save DC very High... it is a Mind-affecting, Will negates power....... at this level many things will be Immune to Mind-affecting Powers you only get 3 powers known of 6th lvl , but why would you even want aura alteration 7th= Why insanity..... the augments are nice, but again Mind-affecting,Will Negates...and if you are the closest creature to the Insane ones...there is 49% chance it will attack you Why psionic moment of prescience... it sucks compared to the spell...the spell lasts 1 hour/Caster level, this Power only lasts 1 round/Manifester lvl 8th= 9th= Why psionic ethrealness...... it has very few uses, and the ones it has can be gained with something else Why microcosm, again... mind-affecting... and at this level the things you want to use it on will have SR/PR or lots of Hit points -Feats: Improved Psicrystal—6:You can implant another personality fragment in your psicrystal. You gain the benefits of both psicrystal personalities. Your psicrystal’s personality adjusts and becomes a blend between all implanted personality fragments. From now on, when determining the abilities of your psicrystal, treat your manifester level as one higher than your normal manifester level.............. what are you looking to gain with this?? Autonomous—15:You get a +2 bonus on all Autohypnosis checks and Knowledge (psionics) checks......... why, it is really a waste of a feat Maximize power—20 (psion bonus)....... although this is not too bad, Empower Power is far Better, even Extend Power will be of better Use if you dont like the first feat list...try this: as for feats...try this: psycrystal affinity—1 Narrow Mind —1 (human bonus) Extend Power —1 (psion bonus) Expanded Knowledge(Astral Construct) —3 Psionic meditation —5 (psion bonus) Psicrystal containment —6 Expanded Knowledge(Metamorphosis) —9 Twin power —10 (psion bonus) Expanded Knowledge(Mind Probe) —12 Expanded Knowledge(Fabricate, greater) —15 Quicken Power —18 Expanded Knowledge(Hypercognition) —20 (psion bonus) with these powers: 1st= control flames, inertial armor, Crystal shard, Vigor, Grease 2nd= Share Pain, Concussion Blast, ego whip, Energy Push 3rd= Dispel Psionics, Touchsight, energy retort, energy wall 4th= Wall of Ectoplasm, energy ball, Divination, Empathic Feedback 5th= psionic major creation, adapt body, Plane Shift,, psionic true seeing 6th= psionic disintegration, Temporal Acceleration, retrieve 7th= decebrate, Energy Conversion, Mind Blank, personal 8th= greater psionic teleport, Bend Reality, true metabolism 9th= reality revision, tornado blast, Affinity field, Assimilate you will have all the powers you need to do anything in the Party and still Fill the Role of BLASTER :D |
| carnivore09-04-07, 04:23 PM | DanteApollyon , the problem with using a Psychic Warrior....not enough PP to last the day using them as you have said... have you looked here: http://forums.gleemax.com/wotc_archive/index.php/t-53738 or here: http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=777184 a PW can do a lot more than that ... :D |
| DanteApollyon09-04-07, 04:30 PM | At level 20 with 127 PP just from the class and 50 from a high wisdom that you use all your ability score increases on will land you with 177 pp, so you could pull that off in one round, and you could have an item that stores power points, or several items to store power points. Either way its possible to pull that off in one round. :D |
| DanteApollyon09-04-07, 04:31 PM | I never said you could do it all day, it would most likely be nap time after that!! |
| carnivore09-04-07, 04:36 PM | even for a single round it is not impressive..... look here: http://forums.gleemax.com/wotc_archive/index.php/t-476377 the best thing to do ... is plan for 3-5 encounters per day..... if you can do that 3-5 times in a row.... great :D |

How do you get to do all of this? Each of the powers you mentioned needs a standard action to manifest... I understand the Dissolving powers, you just need to buff in advance. But how do you get to use Breath of the Black Dragon, Fire Ball (it's 20d6+20, by the way) and a full attack in a round? Edit (To Protosswarrior and Carnivore): Dimension Door and Death Urge are fine, IMHO. |
| DanteApollyon09-05-07, 08:49 AM | Breath of the Black dragon and energy ball are instantaneous actions, i would of used energy burst but that takes a full round and so does form of doom so thats why you would need a different round for the transmutation. |

| DanteApollyon09-05-07, 11:52 AM | at level 20 you get 3 attacks, Form of doom grants you 4 more tentical attacks at -5 of your highest base attack, bit of the wolf grants you an additional bite attack that you can take that is 8 attacks in a round, this is not that bad considering the monk gets like a billion. Breath of the black Dragon is an instantanious power, and so is Energy ball, you could do all of that in one fast passed round, it is just alot of attack rolls (by the way if you have strength of my enemy then you can fill up the strength mod you can get from that in one round.) |
| carnivore09-05-07, 12:17 PM | at level 20 you get 3 attacks, Form of doom grants you 4 more tentical attacks at -5 of your highest base attack, bit of the wolf grants you an additional bite attack that you can take that is 8 attacks in a round, so far correct this is not that bad considering the monk gets like a billion. not really .... even with Greater flurry, 2 Weapon fighting, Improved 2 wpn fighting, Greater 2 Wpn fighting and Haste..... a Monk 20 will only get 9 attacks Breath of the black Dragon is an instantanious power, and so is Energy ball, you could do all of that in one fast passed round, heres the Problem.... look at the power more closely...notice: Energy Ball Psychokinesis [see text] Level: Kineticist 4 Display: Auditory Manifesting Time: 1 standard action Range: Long (400 ft. + 40 ft./level) Area: 20-ft.-radius spread Duration: Instantaneous although the DURATION is Instantaneous... it take a Standard Action to Manifest...it is the same with Breath of the Black Dragon in a round you can do ONE of the following: 1)Standard Action and Move Action 2)2 Move Actions 3)Full round Action 4)Quickened Action(or Swift action) and Standard Action and Move Action 5)Quickened Action(or Swift action) and 2 Move Actions 6)Quickened Action(or Swift action) and Full round Action an Immediate Action takes the place of a Quickened or Swift Action there are ways to get more actions it is just alot of attack rolls (by the way if you have strength of my enemy then you can fill up the strength mod you can get from that in one round.) this also is right about Strength of my Enemy rather than hijack this thread.... just post your own thread and have people coment about it. back to the OP ........ if you really want to Daze People... just take this @ 5th lvl: Expanded Knowledge(Brain Lock (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/powers/brainLock.htm)) leave the others out :D |
| protosswarrior09-05-07, 07:41 PM | first of all, DanteApollyon, no offense, but if you want suggestions for your char, create ur own thread for it second, updated stuff: -Powers known: • 1st= crystal shard, control flames, inertial armor, vigor, psionic grease • 2nd= energy missile, ego whip, mental disruption, psionic identify • 3rd= dispel psionics, touchsight, energy retort, energy wall • 4th= death urge, energy ball, psionic true seeing, psionic dimension door • 5th= psionic major creation, adapt body, power resistance, energy current • 6th= retrieve, psionic disintegration, black dragon breath, fuse flesh • 7th= decebrate, energy conversion, oakbody • 8th= greater psionic teleport, recall death, psionic telekinetic sphere , true metabolism • 9th= reality revision, apopsi, tornado blast, assimilate -Feats: • psycrystal affinity (hero)—1 • Psionic Body —1 (human bonus) • Overchannel—1 (psion bonus) • Narrow Mind—3 • Psionic meditation—5 (psion bonus) • Quicken Power—6 • Talented—9 • Psicrystal containment--10 (psion bonus) • Split psionic ray —12 • Empower power—15 • Twin Power—18 • Extend power—20 (psion bonus) note that i really like this setup, so this will probobally be the last chance for revision |

Most of the feats are fine too. Since you have Energy Missile, Split Psionic Ray is rarely needed. It might come handy for Crystal Shard or Disintegrate, but I doubt it's worth it. YMMV. I would take Empower Power at 6th level instead of Quicken Power. Taking Quicken at Lv 6 is very costly - at Lv. 6 you can use Quicken for a first level power if you use Overchannel (cost increase +6, so you are only allowed to manifest for 7 pp if you use Overchannel). Empower saves a few PP. You want to burn a foe for 30 HP? Either use a 9d6 electricity attack (9pp) or an empowered 6d6 electricity attack (8pp). Want to burn a foe for maximum possible at Lv. 12? Overchannel+Empower a fire or cold attack for 18d6+18 for 14pp and 3d8 HP. Without Empower its 14d6+14 for the same 14pp and 3d8 HP. Another thing - at low levels its very important to have highest concentration skill possible. I took the Stubborn psicrystal at Lv. 1, and used Psychic Reformation later to get a Hero Crystal. I suggest you'd retrain or reform the Narrow Mind feat for something more useful, when you have about +20 on your concentration skill. Take a deeper look into Psychic Reformation. |

At 20th level you can have 23 ranks in the skill, before adding your Con mod. Narrow Mind adds +4 only for purposes of getting focused, so you get +27 + Con mod + 3 for Skill Focus + 3 for Single-Minded Psicrystal + other modifiers. The DC to get focused is only 20 and on skill checks a roll of natch 1 is not an automatic failure, so you beat the DC on ranks alone unless you have some Criss Angel fetish and always try to get focused while immersed in lava. After a certain point, if there are not conditions adverse to concentration then getting focused is automatic so long as you spend the type of action required. So if you take Narrow Mind at all then ditch it once it stops making a difference. As far a Skill Focus (Concentration), you already have a Single-Minded crystal. The 23 ranks of Concentration you can have at 20th level (only costs you skill points rather than feats) means +3 for Skill Focus and +3 for Single-Minded crystal will be a drop in the bucket next to your actual total. Your ranks alone will beat the DC to manifest on the defensive, and to manifest powers up to 9th level. The instances where you will need to beat a higher DC with your Concentration check are: When you are hit for damage in response to your attempt to manifest, when you are already taking continuous damage, or when severe environmental conditions exist (you have been buried by a rock slide or swallowed by a monster). For these, I bring your attention to two specific features of psionics: 1) The level of a power never changes despite augmentation or metapsionics. So even when you boost a 1st level power to 17 points or higher, the DC to manifest it is still figured based on 1st level. If you are in a tight spot and think you might blow the roll then boost a lower level power. 2) You can expend focus to take 15 on any Concentration check. That plus your ranks, Con mod, and crystal bonus should get the job done without needing Skill Focus. Honestly, if taking 15 doesn't beat the DC, then your DM was just hosing you anyway and there was nothing you could have done. |
