I was going to play a multiclass psion/wilder on a 1 for 1 basis (go up 1 lvl in 1 go up 1 lvl in another), i was going to rely on the fact that i could augment my powers up to my two manifester class levels added together (correct me if im wrong).

would this work?

Nope.

Each power would be augmentable to a maximum number of points equal to your levels in the class you learned that power with.

So a Wilder 3/Psion 4 could spend up to 3 pts on his Wilder powers and 4 on powers he learned as a Psion.

You're crazy, and you didn't read the rules right. Manifester levels do not stack. They never stack. Never ever.

If you do this, then at 10th level you'll have a 5th level wilder/5th level psion. You'll only be able to spend 5 power points on any power you learned as a psion. You'll only be able to spend 5 power points on any power you learned as a wilder. If you wild surge (oddly enough, you can apply your wild surge when you manifest psion powers) you'll be able to spend 7 power points instead (2 of which come free).

The Expanded Psionics Handbook. Pages 17-18. "Multiclass Psionic Characters."

While you maintain a single reserve of power points from your class, race and feat selections, you are still limited by the manifester level you have achieved with each power you know. Fore example, a 10th-level psion/2nd-level psychic warrior can spend up to 10 point when manifesting a psion power, but only up to 2 points when manifest a psychic warrior power. Your wellspring o psychic energy is a single pool, but you might posses very different levels of training or accomplishment with powers you learned from different classes.

If you want to do something like this, try egoist 4/wilder1/anarchic initiate 10 (modifying your egoist levels). :)

You're reading too much into it. I wasn't "biting his head off." I'm sorry if it sounded that way. NHBDY didn't do anything to offend me, and I'm sorry if I offended him.

You could use the feat Practiced Manifester to augment your manifester level by +4, up to your HD. That, with Wild Surge, could give you a great Manifester Level.

However, your Power Points amount would suck. A Wilder 3/Psion 3 with 16 in both INT & CHA would have 11+11+8=30 Power Points, giving you 3-4 fully augmented powers/day.
A pure Psion 6, with a 16 INT would have 35+9=44 Power Points, giving 7 fully augmented powers/day.
