| Azoriel05-02-07, 03:40 AM | I'm not sure if anyone else noticed this before... The feat "Duergar Metaform Training", from Champions of Valor, gives additional uses of Enlarge Person per day at the cost of 5 power points. Logically, this would apply to the Enlargement ability of the psionic duergar (or rather should, since you can't justify using the non-psionic duergar in a game with power points). The psi-like ability not only scales as the duergar levels (regardless of class), it also scales freely, without any need to pay extra PPs for augmentation. The feat "Duergar Stealth Training" (from the same book) gives additional uses of Invisibility per day at the cost of 5 power points. While free scaling isn't nearly so amazing here, it still offers an excellent utility power which isn't normally available to psionic characters, and it is available to any character with the power points to pay for it (including to classes like the psychic warrior, with its list of mostly combat-only powers). In the past, duergars have been reviled by players as not worth the +1 ECL. Could it be that this race might actually be worth playing now? (Not that these feats break the duergar as a race, by any means, but it certainly does give it a very nice boost...) |
| CrimsonDeath05-02-07, 04:01 PM | I don't think it would be too impressive at low levels, but at high levels it could be very useful-- either a Duergar PsyWar who gets huge (or even gargantuan) every combat, or a Duergar psion who keeps disappearing. Incidentally, when I first read the title of this thread, I thought it was about polymorphing people into dwarves... |
