Greetings, This is just my proposed alternative SoulKnife class. I am trying to make the Soulknife more akin to the Ranger as I feel that should have been the overall goal of the class anyway.

Warning: As some of you very well know (Those whom I've bugged with annoying questions and I thank you very much for your patiance in answering :) ), I am very much new to these boards and new to psionic classes especially. Also this is my first time ever modding a D&D class. In other words proceed at your own risk...you have been warned.

Credits:
My alternative class does borrow quite a bit from BlaineTog's fix of the SoulKnife class as well, Particularly in terms of the Enchancement bonuses to the Mindblade as I feel BlaineTog's method was the correct one. (Quite Frankly I liked BlaineTog's work overall and his version will probably be better then this one, I just wanted more of a frontline warrior version and felt that the ranger struck about the right powerbalance.

Note: I wanted to keep Throwing Mindblades or 2-Weapons an option at least for both versions of the Combat Styles but quite frankly Throwing multiple mindblades is just broken at mid levels So I borrowed some abilities from the SoulBow Prc (Comp Psionics).

Note II: Well Version 1.0 of this class is finished, crossing my fingers and hoping for some feed back either way. Quite Frankly I'm afraid I overpowered the class way too much....

Mind Blade (Su): Mind Blade (Su): As a move action, a soulknife can create a semisolid blade composed of psychic energy distilled from his own mind. The blade is identical in all ways (except visually) to a short sword of a size appropriate for its wielder. For instance, a Medium soulknife materializes a Medium mind blade that he can wield as a light weapon, and the blade deals 1d6 points of damage (crit 19–20/x2). Soulknives who are smaller or larger than Medium create mind blades identical to short swords appropriate for their size, with a corresponding change to the blade’s damage. The wielder of a mind blade gains the usual benefits to his attack roll and damage roll from a high Strength bonus.

The blade can be broken (it has hardness 10 and 10 hit points); however, a soulknife can simply create another on his next move action. The moment he relinquishes his grip on his blade, it dissipates (unless he intends to throw it; see below). A mind blade is considered a magic weapon for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction.

A soulknife can use feats such as Power Attack or Combat Expertise in conjunction with the mind blade just as if it were a normal weapon. He can also choose mind blade for feats requiring a specific weapon choice, such as Weapon Specialization. Powers or spells that upgrade weapons can be used on a mind blade.

[A soulknife’s mind blade improves as the character gains higher levels. At 4th level and every other level thereafter, the mind blade gains a cumulative +1 enhancement bonus on attack rolls and damage rolls (+2 at 6th level, +3 at 8th level, +4 at 10th level, +5 at 12th level, and so on). Note that the enhancement bonus of the mind blade cannot exceed +5. The Soulknife may (and, indeed, must, after the enhancement bonus exceeds +6) apply a special ability from the table below instead of an enhancement bonus. A soulknife can choose any combination of weapon special abilities and/or enhancement bonus that does not exceed the total allowed by the soulknife’s level.] From BlaineTog's (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=310984) Version.

Even in places where psionic effects do not normally function (such as within a null psionics field), a soulknife can attempt to sustain his mind blade by making a DC 20 Will save. On a successful save, the soulknife maintains his mind blade for a number of rounds equal to his class level before he needs to check again. On an unsuccessful attempt, the mind blade vanishes. As a move action on his turn, the soulknife can attempt a new Will save to rematerialize his mind blade while he remains within the psionics negating effect.

Weapon Focus (Mind Blade): A soulknife gains Weapon Focus (mind blade) as a bonus feat.

Wild Talent: A soulknife gains Wild Talent OR the Hidden Talent (Players/DM's Choice) as a bonus feat. Other wise as Book.

Throw Mindblade: A soul knife of 2nd level or higher can throw his mind blade as a ranged weapon with a range increment of 30 feet.

Whether or not the attack hits, a thrown mind blade then dissipates. A soulknife of 3rd level or higher can make a psychic strike (see below) with a thrown mind blade and can use the blade in conjunction with other special abilities (such as Knife to the Soul; see below).

Combat Style I: SoulKnife has to choose between Range or Two Weapons as a Combat Style.

If Two-Weapons, then the Char gains the Two-Weapon Fighting feat even if they dont meet the Pre-reqs (One of his two weapons MUST be the mindblade in some form. This means that Double weapons are not valid under this ability unless The char takes the feat to turn his mind blade into a double weapon) This ability only works in Light/no Armour.

If Range, then the char gains the following version of the Mind Arrow ability (Based on Comp Psionics pg 36). This ability only works in Light/no Armour.

Mind Arrow(Su): As a free action can create a semisolid arrow composed of psychic energy distilled from his own mind. If your BAB is high enough for multiple attacks then you may create multiple arrows as part of the attack. You need one hand free to create & project a mindarrow. The arrow is identical in all ways (except visually) to an arrow shot from a composite longbow of a size appropriate for its wielder. For instance, a Medium soulknife materializes a Medium mind Arrow that flies towards his target and if it hits deals 1d8 points of damage (crit x3) + extra damage equal to the your Wis Modifier. Soulknives who are smaller or larger than Medium create mind arrows identical to comp. Longbow arrows appropriate for their size, with a corresponding change to the blade’s damage. You gains the usual benefits to his attack roll from a high Dexterity bonus.

Hit or Miss, the mind arrow dissipates after one round after being launched, it is considered a magic weapon for purpsoses of overcoming DR. A mind Arrow may be charged with Psychic Strike or Knife to The Soul as a normal mindblade. Feats such as Point Blank Shot or Precise shot may be used with a Mind Arrow. Mind Arrow can also be chosen for feats requiring specific weapon choice (Ex: Weapon Focus/Specilisation). Any feats previously requiring a specific weapon for your mindblade such Weapon Focus also apply to your Mind Arrow if applicable.

A mind arrow gains the Weapon Enchancement bonuses as shown on the table above, Note that after a mind arrow cannot have an enchancement bonus greater then +4 and may (and must after the mind arrow enchancement bonus exceeds +5 choose a special ability appropiate for an arrow from the DMG ***. Due to spending so much time developing the mind arrow, the bonus to the mind blade does not progress as much as it would other wise.

A soulknife can reassign the ability or abilities he has added to his mind arrow. To do so, he must first spend 8 hours in concentration. After that period, the mind arrow materializes with the new ability or abilities selected by the soulknife.

Even in places where psionic effects do not normally function (such as within a null psionics field), a soulknife can attempt to attack foes with mind arrows by making a DC 20 Will save. On a successful save, the soulknife can attack with mind arrows for a number of rounds equal to his class level before he needs to check again. On an unsuccessful attempt, the mind arrow vanishes. The Soulknife must wait one round before trying again.

Free Draw: At 5th level, a soulknife becomes able to materialize his mind blade as a free action instead of a move action. He may materialise two mind blades if he has the 2-Weapon Fighting feat. He can make only one attempt to materialize the mind blade per round, however.

Shape MindBlade: At 5th level, a soulknife gains the ability to change the form of his mind blade. As a fullround action, he can change his mind blade to replicate a longsword (damage 1d8 for a Medium weapon wielded as a one-handed weapon) or a bastard sword (damage 1d10 for a Medium weapon, but he must wield it as a two-handed weapon unless he knows the Exotic Weapon Proficiency (bastard sword) feat). If a soulknife shapes his mind blade into the form of a bastard sword and wields it two-handed, he adds 1-1/2 times his Strength bonus to his damage rolls, just like when using any other two-handed weapon.

Alternatively, a soulknife can split his mind blade into two identical short swords, suitable for fighting with a weapon in each hand. (The normal penalties for fighting with two weapons apply.) However, both mind blades have an enhancement bonus 1 lower than the soulknife would otherwise create with a single mind blade.

Combat Style II:
If Ranged was chosen earlier then the Soulknife gains the Rapid Shot feat even if they dont meet the pre-reqs, This feat will only work with mind arrows and only in light/no armour.

If Two Weapons was chosen earlier then the Soulknife gains the Imp TWF feat. The earlier restrictions in regards to armour and mindblades still apply.

Bonus Feat: At 7th Level and 14th Level the soulknife gains a bonus Psionic Feat.

Bladewind (Su): At 9th level, a soulknife gains the ability to momentarily fragment his mind blade into numerous identical blades, each of which strikes at a nearby opponent.

As a full attack, when wielding his mind blade, a soulknife can give up his regular attacks and instead fragment his mind blade to make one melee attack at his full base attack bonus against each opponent within reach. Each fragment functions identically to the soulknife’s regular mind blade.

When using bladewind, a soulknife forfeits any bonus or extra attacks granted by other feats or abilities (such as the Cleave feat or the haste spell).

The mind blade immediately reverts to its previous form after the bladewind attack.

Greater Weapon Focus (Mind Blade): A soulknife gains Greater Weapon Focus (Mind Blade) as a bonus feat at 9th level.

Close Combat: Whether throwing his mind blade or arrow, the Soul Knife may now make a range attack from a threatend square without risking an Attack of Opportunity.

Combat Style III:
If Ranged was chosen earlier then the Soulknife gains the Many Shot feat even if they dont meet the pre-reqs, This feat will only work with mind arrows and only in light/no armour.

If Two Weapons was chosen earlier then the Soulknife gains the Greater TWF feat. The earlier restrictions in regards to armour and mindblades still apply.

Knife to the Soul (Su): Beginning at 13th level, when a soulknife executes a psychic strike, he can choose to substitute Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma damage (his choice) for extra dice of damage. For each die of extra damage he gives up, he deals 1 point of damage to the ability score he chooses. A soulknife can combine extra dice of damage and ability damage in any combination.

The soulknife decides which ability score his psychic strike damages and the division of ability damage and extra dice of damage when he imbues his mind blade with the psychic strike energy.

Evasion/Spell Reflection:
The Soul Knife has to choose between the Evasion(EX) ability from the PHB pg 48 or the the Spell Reflection ability from Complete Mage pg 35 even if they dont meet the pre-reqs, Which ever ability they choose will only work in light/no armour and if a mind blade is drawn. (Description: Spell Reflection (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20061010a)).

Combat Style IV:
If Ranged was chosen earlier then the Soulknife gains the Phase Arrow Ability (Comp Psionic pg 37)
Phase Arrow (PS): At 17th Level you may spend a full attack action & your Psionic Focus to launch a mind arrow at a target known to you in range. The mind arrow travels to the target in a straight path by passing through any non-magical or non-psionic barrier. (Walls of Fire, Force, Ectoplasm can stop a Phase Arrow). This ability by passes cover, concealment and armour modifiers but other wise is rolled for normally. Psychic Strike & Knife to the soul works with a Phase Arrow.

If TWF was chosen earlier then the SoulKnife gains the following (Modified by me) Multiple Throw ability.

Multiple Throw (Ex): At 17th level and higher, a soulknife can throw a number of mind blades per round equal to the number of melee attacks he could make. The first Mind Blade maybe of whatever Size the Soulknife had manifested currently but the subsequent Soulknives must be the Short sword version, as the Soul knife is throwing them too rapidly to manifest them fully.
Example: A 17th level Soul Knife currently has his MindBlade set as a +5 Mindfeeder Bastard Sword. He decides to use multiple throw at Illithid in front of him. His first throw is the +5 Mindfeeder Bastard Sword version of mindblade & his next three throws are +5 Mindfeeder Short Swords. After he finishes throwing his mindblade reforms into the +5 Mindfeeder Bastard Sword.
