| Azoriel04-30-07, 05:12 PM | I've a question for the Mind's Eye guys (assuming they have the time to answer): is there any chance of eventually seeing a psionic Tome of Battle prestige class, or anything Tome of Battle related? (I understand a number of people have made their own psionic X ToB prestige classes, as well as conversions of the pre-existing ones, though I feel as though something from the website would feel a bit more "official".) |
| 4-armed kobold04-30-07, 10:15 PM | I'll second this request! |
| 4-armed kobold04-30-07, 10:16 PM | And third!!! |
| 4-armed kobold04-30-07, 10:18 PM | Even fourth it. And I don't mind waiting until Christmas for it to be decided. :P |
| Eldritch_Lord04-30-07, 10:23 PM | While I'm not in any way affiliated with Mind's Eye or WotC, this kind of "Will _____ get support" question has been askes before, and I can tell you the boards consensus is that none of the single-book systems (incarnum, pact magic, shadow magic, truenaming, ToB) is likely to get support beyond maybe a feat or two in new books. Seeing as how psionics is already pretty much unsupported, or badly supported in the case of CPsi, I'd say anything dealing with both a marginal system and psionics is unlikely at best. |

Furthermore, it's typically *good* support, too -- it's an extremely popular article for a reason, and Mark et al do a spectacular job on it. If any article were to provide ToB support, it's likely The Mind's Eye. And frankly, given the popularity of the book and the INCREDIBLE synergy -- both mechanical and fluff -- between psionics and the Diamond Mind discipline, the only reason to *not* do that as an article would be legal or corporate. Hell, if the ToB were Open Game, I'd have written expansions for it for DSP already. |
| angellis_ater05-01-07, 08:53 AM | As Tempest just said there is alot FOR the Minds Eye making a Psionic article, but also the fact that one of the pictures from the Tome of Battle gallery seems to suggest a psionics-themed Prestige Class which was cut from the book: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/tob_gallery/99666.jpg - it is a gith(yanki/zerai) with loads of crystals called the "Diamond Swordmaster"... so, it's not impossible. Keith Baker recently released the stuff on the Children of Khyber which was cut from Dragonmarked and hinted at by the art which was never used. |
| CrimsonDeath05-01-07, 04:42 PM | Judging from the mask, the long hair, and the greatsword, that's probably a Githyanki. A githzerai would probably be clean-shaven and bare-faced, with light weapons or unarmed. |
| Azoriel05-02-07, 04:19 AM | I thank 4-Armed Kobold for the triple bump, as well as the more regular board regulars for their responses. ;) I've been trying to make do with psionic X conversions thus far; it never seems to come out quite right. Making a Jade Phoenix Psionicist didn't seem right because phoenixes simply aren't psionic creatures (having spell-like abilities as opposed to psi-like ones). Changing it into something based on a psionic creature like a couatl didn't seem right either, since none of them really fit easily into the phoenix motif of the class, thus requiring a major class overhaul (defeating the purpose of a simple conversion). I came up with a reflavoring idea, with the Jhaamdathan bladelords passing their psicrystals from one generation to the next to preserve the knowledge of past psychic warriors (in the place of reincarnation), but, with all the energy damage stuff, that too would have required a lot of reworking. For a while, I considered Seradessian variation on the Ruby Knight Vindicator, but then I realized that the suggested conversion I stole from the boards (replace turn attempts with expending focus) might be a little on the strong side. Now, I'm turning my thoughts back to the Jade Phoenix, this time with a Seradessian theme. Perhaps I'll call it "Obsidian Dragon Cultist". Since obsidian dragons breathe fire, keeping all those fire powers as they are would make sense, and the "Obsidian Immolation" ability would hint at an ominous future reincarnation of Seradess. (With hope, any logic problems with this conversion won't occur to me until after the ToB Mind's Eye comes out... Assuming that there will be one, of course.) |
| CrimsonDeath05-02-07, 03:53 PM | I can easily picture a blood-feud between the good-aligned Jade Phoenix Mages and the evil-aligned Obsidian Dragon Cultists. |
| Azoriel05-02-07, 04:27 PM | I can easily picture a blood-feud between the good-aligned Jade Phoenix Mages and the evil-aligned Obsidian Dragon Cultists. Wow! And, in a surprising bit of synergy, that makes Seradess an excellent replacement for the Phoenix Mages' archenemy, the Souldrake! Of course, this would mean tweaking the fluff for either Saridor or the Phoenix Mages some, but the possibilities there are quite fascinating... |
| Crashy7505-02-07, 09:22 PM | Even fourth it. And I don't mind waiting until Christmas for it to be decided. :P 5th'd. |
| Armoracia Rusticana05-03-07, 02:44 PM | I'd suggest to add some gyth flavor to a PrC. Sure, diamond mind warblade is one half of fullfilling prerequisites, and Psywar is another... But why not to add a liitle cherry - some ability to use [insert any githyankee (spelling?) PLA here] as power or psionic-like ability? Neat thing, IMHO. Other races can qualify by taking feats of dippings into psion ETC... just random thoughts. |
| wolfie-kun05-04-07, 10:15 AM | I'd love to see a ToB/Psionics article. |
| brahmin05-04-07, 12:35 PM | I'd love to see a ToB/Psionics article. same...bump for justice. |
| Soel Griffin05-04-07, 12:40 PM | Yes, psionics and ToB are meant for each other. Let's have it! |
| Azoriel05-06-07, 03:27 PM | Bump? |
| Shado05-06-07, 05:06 PM | I've been asking for this since the day ToB was released. :waits: |
