If I could come up with them all at the same time I could post one big block and I'm sure everyone would be happier... but alas my brain doesn't work that way. I am playing a Wizard/Psion... and at some point I will trot down the path of ArchWizard (hey I like uppity titles;) ) I'd like to do something similar for my Psion half but I haven't found anything that seems quite equivalent ... is there such a thing and if there isnt what's the closest anything comes? Thank You. P.S. I suffer from buyer's remorse often, I revisit ancient decisions constantly questioning my wisdom. My DM told me since this was my first time playing in the 3.anything system he would let me remake my character if I wanted to... right now we're still very low level (Psion2/Wizard1)... but already I hear the gnawings of doubt at the back door. So many Psion powers seem to be simple reworks of Wizard spells (frankly given the monstrousness of the D&D spell books I doubt anything couldnt be described as a spell)... anyway since their abilities are so similar I wonder whether I've chosen to multi-class into two classes that are too similar (rather like a Druid/Cleric). Does anyone have any wisdom to share with me? Should I burn the character and remake him a straight Psion? Thank you again. |

There are a few effects you can get quicker with eighter of the paths, but in the end it tends to be a wash. Now I have played a Psion/Wizard, there are lots of good things about this combo and here are a few "tricks" to have up your sleeve. -In my experiance Psionic divinations are better than Magical ones, so one path is go Seer with your Psion and use your wizard spells for blasting -The other route is to go kineticists, and use your wizard for utility. Most would agree that this is the best route to go, seeing as Psions have the best direct damage powers and wizards have the best utility spells. (all statements made as a genralisation and with personal experiance) So if your going with both pick "roles" for each of your classes to fill, so that your not stuck in a situation where all your powers are Energy X and you spells are all fireballs. Now you will probally realize early on how much less work it is to play a Psion, and how power points reall are better than spell slots in every way. IMHO this is how Psionics are considered overpowered, it will take a lot less work to make the most of you charecter, and you aren't stuck with all the paper work of a wizard. If you stay multiclasses go into Cerbremancer, if you choose to go with one class remember, Psion is easier and Wizard can be more powerful but you do have to work for it. Sorry to ramble. |

If you want to keep the flavor of both classes, I would suggest the psion variant from complete psionics that lets you prepare your powers daily. But I have no idea what to do about an Archpsion. Sorry. |
| InkBlot03-01-07, 11:33 PM | There is no psion variant in Complete Psionics that prepares powers daily. There is the erudite, but the erudite doesn't prepare powers. To get an idea of how erudites work, imagine this; you're playing a psion, but you forgot to write down what powers your psion knows. You're too embarrased to tell your DM, so you just use whatever power you need at the moment and then pencil it in on your character sheet. After blowing up a manticore, breaking into a stone-giant stronghold, and rescuing a lost gnome, you've got a full power list. You still have to fight your way out of the stronghold, but you've got plenty of power points left to use with your new power list. Now imagine you get to do that every day. Every day you wake up with an empty power list, which you get to pencil in as you go with exactly the right power for the moment. That's how the erudite works. The "unique powers per day" is your power list, and your "powers known" are the powers you can choose from when you pencil one in on your power list. Your "unique powers" list is rather small, but your "powers known" list is the largest in the game, and can be expanded by copying powers from powerstones and other psychics. To keep you're power copying powers in check, you lose a small amount of XP each time you copy a power. |
| Doomed_Penguin03-02-07, 07:06 PM | Oh, okay. Sorry, I guess my DM changed the class for one of my friends, because my friend basically just prepares powers per day. My bad. |
| Lycanthromancer03-02-07, 07:48 PM | Oh, okay. Sorry, I guess my DM changed the class for one of my friends, because my friend basically just prepares powers per day. My bad.Just one syllable: Ugh. |
| JulesCARV03-02-07, 09:07 PM | An erudite with psychic chirurgery who decided to be very, very nice to another, non-erudite psion could create a pretty powerful character, if they both had a reasonably regular source of experience. Hmm... maybe an erudite as a thrall of a high-level thrallherd? You'd probably have to be very kind to your thrall to get him to put up with the continual experience drain, (maybe share the experience drain equally, and pay him 2500 gp per power transfer, since 2500 gp is considered a fair price for 500 xp) but perhaps it could be done. |
