| CrimsonDeath11-16-07, 01:53 AM | Technically, I think you'd take a -4 nonproficiency penalty, and then gain a +1 bonus for Weapon Focus. (Note that you can actually do this, because the Weapon Focus is a bonus feat, so you ignore prerequisites. This is how an Ardent can get the Conflict Mantle's granted power at level 1, with +0 BAB.) |
| KernOfGort11-16-07, 02:11 PM | I just made an ardent, and took the conflict mantle. I chose Bastard Sword as my weapon focus, and just figured that you still have to know how to use the weapon, so I took Exotic weapon proficiency to cover that. It just makes sense. |

Looking at the cleric domain ability, I'd expect the WF comes with a free weapon proficiency, if necessary. You'd think it also makes sense ;) |

You'd think it also makes sense ;) There are two differences between the War domain granted power and the Conflict mantle granted power. First, the War domain explicitly grants the appropriate Martial Weapon Proficiency feat, if necessary. Second, the Conflict mantle granted power can be applied to any weapon, not just the weapon appropriate to your deity or alignment. |
| rilem11-19-07, 06:51 PM | Right, having the cleric domain restricted to martial weapons of very specific gods helps balance that somewhat. Notice that no core-rules War gods have the top-notch weapons like Greatsword or Spiked Chain. So take your EWP feat and don't get greedy. |
