| Celas Evriamytholin05-03-07, 02:55 PM | Hail! I am currently playing a Shaper, and my Astral Constructs have recently gained the ability to manifest Energy Bolt as an 8th level manifester. The way I understood it, is that he manifests it as if 8 power points were spent on it. Therefore, since it is a 3rd level spell, he would augment it by 3 points. Which in turn means that the power effectively does... 8d6 damage with a saving throw of 10 + level of spell (3) + 1 because of augmentation + 0because the construct has no intelligence modifier? Or does he use my int modifier? And does anything else modify his save DC? |
| munin05-03-07, 03:04 PM | Energy Bolt (Ps): The astral construct can manifest energy bolt (manifester level 8th) as a standard action once per round. The creator sets the energy type that the astral construct can manifest when he creates it. The astral construct is manifesting the power, not you, so it uses its own ability scores to determine the effect's save DC. The DC of a saving throw (if applicable) against a creature’s psi-like ability is 10 + the level of the power or spell the ability duplicates + the creature’s Cha modifier. Astral constructs all have a Charisma of 10, so the save DC will be 14 (including, as you correctly point out, the augmentation). Personally, I prefer the concussion ability. |
| Tempest Stormwind05-03-07, 03:17 PM | Energy Bolt is more useful than concussion because of its range or area, but a lot of things can be immune to it or reduce it dramatically, which isn't an issue with concussion. But yes, barring buffs, the DC on Energy Bolt is 14 (10+3level+1augment+0Cha). |

Move Action = Dim Slide 55, 65 or 70 ft. into position ... Standard Action = Energy Bolt as many targets as you can .. (usually pretty good since the Dim Slide allows you to easily get into position ..) Free action = Concussion Blast ... cherry pick targets weakened by Energy Bolt .. I used that combination to good effect in one fight vs Shadows and other incorporeal undead ... (Yeah, the energy bolt had 50% ... but still ... it tended to do better than melee ... :D Target rich environment ... hee) |
