In my current campaign we're advised to make multiple characters, due to... well, you know how people can die alot.

So, for my next character, I'm thinking of doing something a little different than my usual Nomad antics.

I was thinking of riding around in a giant robot. (Sort of)

Primarily going Shaper/Constructor, and using the Expanded Class Option from Mind's Eye for Personal Construct, popping it in as a quickened power, then start manifesting Ectoskeleton*. By round 2, I'm rolling around all mecha-pilot like.

Now, I can easily think of many fun things to do with this; Not necessarily wise choices, but fun ones anyway. Will probably stat up some other constructs for use aside from the PC to go with it.

In any case, I was just wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to how to play this concept out; Mainly feat choices (Boost Construct, Metapower (Extend Power), and the Psicrystal containment line all come to mind, but I draw somewhat of a blank from there), but anything is welcome really. I've got access to pretty much anything published by WotC, or stuff from the boards (I've earned my DM's trust as far as these things are concerned) though as far as 3rd Party Psi material I've only got Untapped Potential and Hyperconscious.

Starting at roughly level 10, if it helps. Also using Lyc's power revisions...

Thanks, in any case.

*Power from Untapped Potential

PS: Yeah, I'll probably hop by the CO boards, but I wanted to get opinions from the PsiBoards first :embarrass

Somebody's using my revision? Yee-haw!

...Ahem.

You might want to go with a warforged, if you can. Lots of construct-y flavor, with you, your psicrystal, AND your personal construct.

I'd also find the astral construct Excel spreadsheet, and have a computer with you when you play. It makes shapers so much easier.

Shapers are especially good at conserving power points, if you play your cards right. Get duration powers, such as wall of ectoplasm, energy conversion, wall of energy, and several low-cost-but-really-nice powers such as entangling ectoplasm, psionic grease (nee ectoplasmic sheen), and of course psionic fabricate, psionic (minor) creation, and quintessence (when you can, anyway). I did this once, and even on the days where we had 8 or more battles, I never used more than half of my daily allotment of power points. I spent the remaining on quintessence that I stored in my portable hole. Of course, I was 16th level at the time, but still.

Sounds like a fun deal to me!

[edit] Don't forget about Link Power (from CPsi), to use long-manifesting-time powers in just a couple of rounds. Who needs to spend a minute manifesting psionic minor creation when you can have it done next round?

[edit 2](Also take astral seed if you don't want to die. Pay for someone to cast clone on you, or spend 9,000 or so gp to cast astral projection and never worry about dying again!)

[edit 3] The spreadsheet is here. (http://telusplanet.net/~sdupuis/Tempest/AstralConstructs.zip)

An additional link to my Astral Construct spreadsheet is here (http://dot.ditto.googlepages.com/excel). It also has instructions and some minor troublshooting tips. (Also got some other sheets in there might be useful).

Cheers!

At the risk of a slight hijack...

I noticed on the spread sheet, it mentions the number of "Boost Construct" feats. I thought you could only take that feat once.

Nevermind...

You can only take Boost Construct once. Perhaps that number marks the amount of extra menu options you get from your Boost Construct feat. You can trade a higher level option for multiple low level options. For example, if Boost Construct gives you an extra C menu choice you can trade it in to get four extra A menu choices (or two Bs, or one B plus two As).

Well, perhaps he left it open in case it became possible to get additional Boost Construct feats.

...Such as the augments I added to the astral construct power in my powers revision. :evillaugh

Thanks for all the help so far!
Somebody's using my revision? Yee-haw!

So far everyone I've shown it to has started to switch to it. People seem to love talents (and discipline-specific augments). My tiefling nomad just sits around making "candy" with Ectoplasmic Pigment.

In any case, I'd considered warforged, but am leaning towards Kalashtar at the moment; Less constructy as it were, but overall bonus pp... and imparticular, the use of Quori Embedded shards, Power Link specifically. Only usable 3 times a day, but doesn't seem like it would hurt for long duration powers. Not to mention each additional one increases the power points you get to use from it by 2, beyond your manifester level. Which is admittedly kind of silly.

Power Link Shards have consistently been identified as a typo. It should say "cannot". Your ML is still intact.

Thank goodness. I thought something seemed off about that.

Wish I'd known that the last time an argument about those things sprange up.

Hey, Lycan and/or Ditto. I'm having trouble with that sheet.

I open it up, give it a name, and set it a level-9 construct with 1 boost construct feat. All the numbers are right (3 menu C options), but I can't select anything (double-click on the option?), and only menu A lets me select from it (menus B and C are grayed).

Think it has something to do with me using OpenOffice, or am I just "doin it rong"?

Constructor PrC - it gives you an extra 2 boost contruct feats by level 10 ...
I left it open to more just in case other options out there allowed more.

Open Office? that might be interferring. I made that sheet pretty heavy on the VB script ... (my later sheets cut back on that a bit ... I learn quick .. :P )

Anyway ... head over to my site here (http://dot.ditto.googlepages.com/excel) and read the info on that page - it gives some pointers on setting some things up. (ie make sure Macros are enabled).

If you still have trouble, e-mail me (at the main home page) and we'll try working it out.
Cheers!
