Attack Enhancers? [Archive] - Wizards Community

05-04-07, 01:47 PM So, I have a question on Attack Enhancers, I can find nothing in the SRD (and I'm not near my books at the moment) that says otherwise, is there anything preventing you from using multiple Attack Enhancers on one attack? For example, I will use Deep Impact and Greater Psionic Weapon.

Step 1: I spend my Psionic Focus on Deep impact, my next attack will be a touch attack.
Step 2: I regain my psionic focus, and do not attack
Step 3: I spend my new psionic focus on Greater Psionic Weapon, my next attack will deal 4d6 additional damage
Step 4: Smited!

Is there anything stopping this from happening?

05-04-07, 01:55 PM Expending focus is never an action of it's own. It is always part of another action. In the case of Deep Impact, expending focus is part of the attack action. Your trick doesn't work because you can't take another action to refocus while you're making your attack.

05-04-07, 02:16 PM The only thing preventing you is your psionic focus. You would need to have more than 1 to pull it off. So, in effect, the answer is no. You can apply multiple effects to your attack. But because they noth need a psionic focus, you need a way to have 2 to expend.

Psicrystal Containment adds another vessel to hold a focus. And the Psychic Weapon Master can hold a focus in his weapon.

I also believe that Untapped Potential has a half-giant substitution level for the Psychic Warrior (or soulknife? not sure) that allows him to hold a focus in his weapon (or something similar, not as familiar with the book yet as I would like to be).

So for example, if you had the psicrystal containment feat, and spent one full round action gaining your psionic focus, and another full round action focusing your psicrystal (at the beginning of the day) you could spend your psionic focus as well as the psionic focus in your psicrystal to apply the effects of both Deep Impact and Greater Psionic Weapon, resulting in a single attack that was resolved as a touch attack and dealt an extra 4d6 points of damage.

And that was a long sentence.

I was wondering(if it isn't too much trouble) if somebody could quote that for me that expending a psionic focus is used in conjunction with whatever action requires the expenditure. Also, the Soulknife Ability Bladewind splits the Mindblade into multiple Identical copies of the original Mindblade, could you use Greater Psionic Weapon, Deep impact, and/or psychic strike against all enemies targeted by the Bladewind because they are all being hit at the same time?

Many psionic feats can be used only when you are psionically focused; others require you to expend your psionic focus to gain their benefit. Expending your psionic focus does not require an action; it is part of another action (such as using a feat). When you expend your psionic focus, it applies only to the action for which you expended it. For example, if you use the Deep Impact feat (which requires you to expend your psionic focus), you cannot use the Psionic Weapon feat for the same attack, because you expended your focus to use Deep Impact. See the Concentration skill description earlier in this chapter for information on gaining your psionic focus.

On Bladewind:
Bladewind is multiple attacks with one fragmented mindblade. This is much like whirlwind attack.

Deep Impact and Psionic Weapon each only augment a single attack. Only one attack in your bladewind can benefit from the feat you activate.

Psychic strike can also only be applied to a single attack in a bladewind, but for a different reason. According to a sidebar on page 56 of Complete Psionic, each mindblade requires a seperate action to charge with a psychic strike. The fragmentary mindblades created when you use bladewind don't exist long enough for you to a charge in each of them, so you only have the one psychic strike you stored earlier.
