I'm currently working on a new Elan Psion character that revolves around feats such as Overchannel and Body Fuel. . .that is to say that the idea behind this character is the sacrifice of the body for further mental power. I'm strongly considering going with an Egoist for this very reason, since it would be sort of like using mental power to replace physical power through buffs, psychic attacks, etc. Another reason I would go Egoist is for Autohypnosis.

I've never really used the Autohypnosis skill before, but with this character's concept and some of it's uses I'm curious about it this time around. In your opinion, is Autohypnosis worth the skill points? What are some high points you've had using Autohypnosis? Are there any other skills that go well with Autohypnosis?

Yes, autohypnosis is worth a few skill points at least. The increased chance of stabilization is great. The memorization ability is fun, but more of an RP thing. You can use it flawlessly remember some piece of trivia you read about in the library, or to record a top secret document, but it won't help you blow up monsters.

It can be useful. The second save abilities it grants can be good, and the ability to substitue an Autohypnosis check for some selected saves ain't bad either. Honestly, I think I've most frequenly used it for the Memorize ability, particularly in combination with Craft (Drawing and Painting), or Forgery, it's a fairly potent non-combat ability.

Ok, thanks for the feedback. I'll make sure to get some ranks (At least 5) in Autohypnosis.

And honestly, as a psion, what else are you using your obscene number of skill points for, hmm?

Aside from Concentration, Knowledge skills, and Psicraft you have a point there.

"Obscene number?" At low levels, you might have 6 per level counting Int. At realy high levels, maybe 10 per level. A ranger gets 6 per level before addint his Int. Rogues and factotums have obscene numbers of skill points. Psions do not.

True. But rogues and them actually have a lot of skills to spend those points on. Wizards and Psions have a fair amount b/c of high int, but only a few skills that they need to keep maxed. So what do they do with the rest?

I've played my fair share of rangers, and I've never put less than a 10 into Int.

And they were still able to do things like fight, and cast spells?

Yes. Rangers don't have to be MAD, especialy with Zen Archery.

Yeah, 'cause putting a 10 in a nonessential stat completely negates your 18 Str and 14 Wis.

What are you playing, 15 point buy?

With Empathic Transfer and max ranks Autohypnosis, no one in the party needs to worry about the secondary save from poison. Of course, you get the same effect from a competent Healer, but not every party has one of those. Autostabilize and Memorize are nice perks, too.

Ignore Caltrop Wound may not come up often, but when it does, it's nice.
