Ok, so I'm a little confused as to how Bend Reality works. And since I just picked it up, I'm going to need to know. I've checked the WotC Errata and the FAQ list on this board, and neither seems to address my questions.

Duplicate any psion power of 6th level or lower, provided the power is not of a discipline prohibited to you.

This seems straight forward. Since my character is a Telepath, any 1st to 6th level power from either the Psion/Wilder List or the Telepath List is accessible. Right?

Duplicate any other power (but not a spell) of 5th level or lower, provided the power is not of a discipline prohibited to you.

So, this seems to mean any 1st to 5th level Power from Psychic Warrior, Lurk, or any of those new classes from Complete Psi 's lists. Right?

Duplicate any psion power of 5th level or lower, even if it’s of a prohibited discipline.

Presumably this means the Nomad, Shaper, Kineticist, etc. lists.

Duplicate any other power (but not a spell) of 4th level or lower, even if it’s of a prohibited discipline.

So, what the heck does this refer to?

Thanks in advance,
Racinante

Would Mantle powers be considered prohibited disciplines? If so, then this would give you access to mantle only powers of 4th level or less, where none of the previous categories would.

Honestly, no idea. Anyone else out there? Surely there's people who know Psionics far better than I.

I would guess that the last part is a relic from the copy+paste of Limited Wish, so I'd say to ignore it.

The rules are simply covering their bases. The standard rules have no mechanic for "prohibited discipline". There are the rules for the restricted discipline lists. One could possibly apply these to the "psion, prohibited discipline", but it's not immediately obvious that the terms are in any way equivalent. If for some reason you were to acquire a prohibited discipline, then these rules would come into effect.

I say let's do like the Sage and say "it doesn't exist" on this one. Seriously, there's no such thing as a prohibited discipline. Doing this we greatly simplify the byzantine wording to this:

*Duplicate any psion/wilder power of 6th level or lower
*Duplicate any power of 5th level or lower (for instance, even a discipline specific one or from the PsyWar list)

And that's it. Reasonably balanced for an 8th level power, when you add in the additional uses such as -8 to saves etc.
