I recently won a large sum of money, gambling.Ive decided taht, instead of putting it towards my offense and possibly causing blance problems, that id put a large chunk of it towards rasing my tank resistance (Animated Shield) and spend whats left on consumiables and nicknacks, so that i would have somethign to play with when the fire immunes come out and steal all my fun.

Not being of a materialistic bent (Infact, i dont even have a backpack) I decided to try and avoid alot of potions. Being naturally psionic, ive decided to invest in some tattos. After looking over the diffrent psionic powers ive selected a few tattos that seem like good buys. Id figure id come here and get everyone elses opinions as to which tattos are good, and which arnt worth the chitin there scrawled on.

My personal selections:
Skate, ML 1, 50gp Excellent in case of an avalanch... or a raging mt giant.

Offensive Prescience, ML 4, 200gp +3 to dmg rolls for 40 Rounds? With 4 arms and a bite, that adds up.

Claws of the Vampire, ML 5, 750gp My reasoning here is that, if im clawin, im desperate. This is the same price as a cure serious wounds potion. If all my claws hit, ill heal an average of 24 dmg, as oppose to the 14 average of the potion. 0-48 dmg with claw, 7-21 with pot. Its Risky, but it fits "Mak'La"'s personality.

Rejects: Prevenom, Doudeminsonal Claw, Metaphysical Claw; Short Duration, too expensive, only affect one claw. Frankly these seem like wastes of money

Painfull strike: I have 5 nat weapons, and still wouldnt buy this. It adds 1d6 damage to every hit with a nat weapon. But it would only last for 3 rounds, and would cost 300gp. I can get + 3 to all damge rolls for 40 minutes and save 100 gold.

Astral Traveller: Actually seems like a really good idea... IF you know and travel with an egoist. I dont however, so its of no real use to me.

Body Adjustment: Even if you get it from a psiwarrior, its stell WAY to much for the 6hp youl get. Save your money and get a healing belt.

So, what good ones did i miss?

Are you allowed to use the Getting Wired material? If you are, there are some SERIOUSLY nice options there (including auto-revives, for instance), but it takes some creativity to wire the right tattoos together.

Getting Wired (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/psm/20031225a) is open content material. It's part of the Mind's Eye article series from the WotC website. I can particularly recommend relay (set off several at once), mental tap (don't need a movement to trigger), capacitor (reuse tattoos indefinitely as long as there's enough days between uses), and transducer (recharge a capacitor more quickly; great for end of day uses). Amplifier and inducer are also nice (spend extra power points to beef up the tattoo when needed and provide a contingency to activate the tat). Very nice.

Hmm, very interesting read.
So, i could attach offensive precognition, offensive prescience, and vampiric claws to a relay, and then connect each of the three to a capacitor?

Does the relay disapear after its triggered? Does it need its own capacitor? What if i have more capacitors charging then i have power points? Do i just lose all my points, or do i lose as many points as i can and only have that many capacitors charge that day? Can i use power points from a congnizance crystal with a transducer?

Can i connect an inducer to a tattoe that is connected to a relay and, if i do, do they all trigger at once? Does the first one on the relay trigger instantly, followed by the others on there respective turns?

WTF is a crystal capacitator?
Crystal Capacitator=Cognizance Crystal?
metapsionic level=manifester level?
metapsionic level=power level?

Why does he list the normal limit as 17 when the SRD says the limit is 20?

I get the feeling that this wasn't written for 3.5 psionics.....

Well, for one thing, 3.5 psionics doesn't have combat modes, so there you go. Still, that was definitely an interesting read, and can make for some badass-looking psionic characters.

Yes. Note that you'd have to make 3 capacitors, one for each individual tattoo of a power.

Does the relay disapear after its triggered? Does it need its own capacitor? What if i have more capacitors charging then i have power points? Do i just lose all my points, or do i lose as many points as i can and only have that many capacitors charge that day? Can i use power points from a congnizance crystal with a transducer?

The rules on that page imply that a relay will not disappear after the tattoos attached to it do.

It does not need a capacitor, and if it takes all your points, nothing happens, except that you no longer have power points. If you tried to tap the tattoos that were inertly attached to the un-filled capacitor, the tattoos themselves would just disappear, doing nothing. Also of note: Being that they take your power points to charge itself from the beginning of the day, if you're left with zero points, you should probably reassert your tattoo problem.

By RAW, you can only use power points from a cognizance crystal to manifest powers, nothing else.

Can i connect an inducer to a tattoe that is connected to a relay and, if i do, do they all trigger at once? Does the first one on the relay trigger instantly, followed by the others on there respective turns?

You can connect an inducer to a tattoo that's connected to a relay, but they will not trigger the relay. The inducer only triggers the tattoo that it is attached to.

WTF is a crystal capacitator?
Crystal Capacitator=Cognizance Crystal?

Yes

metapsionic level=manifester level?
metapsionic level=power level?

Metapsionic levels are the manifester level to needed to normally manifest the power, including any metapsionic feats or extra power points spent on the power to further it's effect.

Why does he list the normal limit as 17 when the SRD says the limit is 20?

I get the feeling that this wasn't written for 3.5 psionics.....

These extra rules were written when people were using 3.0 psionics, so some of the terms and feel is pretty old. With minimal tweaking (or none at all) they can be used with 3.5 just fine. Take the SRD ruling.

Bacris did a faithful 3.5 update to Getting Wired, titled Getting Re-Wired (http://forums.gleemax.com/wotc_archive/index.php/t-330627). All that it changes, really, is what changed between editions.

sure about this? I was under the impression that the relay is like a bus in a computer (i.e. a wire where multiple actors can use it at the same time)
With my reading, you get this

{offensive precognition} {offensive prescience} {vampiric claws}
| | |
\_______________________{R}_____________ ________/
|
{C}
|
{T}

and then each use of one a the three "power tattoo" drain one charge form the capacitor (C), and once drained out, the next use will cause the "power tattoo" to fade (as per the normal rules)

with your reading, what's the use of the relay? you'd be better off like this

{offensive precognition} {offensive prescience} {vampiric claws}

"Tattoos linked to a capacitor do not fade away after being tapped provided the capacitor is at full power; otherwise they fade away as normal."

The relay taps all three at once, you don't need 3 actions.

the capacitor is at full power when tapped, so the tattoos don't fade away.

The transducer allows you to recharge the capacitor so the tattoos don't fade away after the next use.

It's a perfect (albeit costly) set up.

I find it odd that a capacitator does not actually require you to have power points in order for it to recharge. It reads like the capacitator is causing you to lose points as a side effect.

Is my math right? It looks like you can get Inertial armor, augmented up to +6, thus counting as a third level power, for 16 hours a day for 2400gp, and one slot. If you then connect it to a capacitator, 1250 gp and a slot, you can use it every 5 days. If you got 5 of these, you would have one ready every day, and it would last from the time you get up, till the time you go to bed. For the cost of 18250gp. A savings of 17750gp and your bracer slot over bracers of armor +6. And you still have 10 slots left. I bet monks love that.

Or for double the price, you get something that works all the time, rather than once every five days.

Seems a fair trade to me.

NO NO NO NO NO! You missread my post. The price i gave was for 5 tatto sets that each work once every 5 days. So you have one ready every day. You lose having the armor bonus while you sleep, and in exchange you gain near 18000 gp and a magic item slot. Aditionally, a sucessful dispel will set you back the rest of the day, as opposed to ..10 minutes is it? but the CL is pretty high anyways. Also, should you polymorph or something, the bonus comes with you, whereas the braces would need a wild clasp or something.

Its rather like spell-stiching in a greater mage armor spell. Only you dont have to be dead, or high level, or have a high wisdom, ect.

The relay is just to simply set off up to 3 psionic tattoos with one action. Even in the diagram at the bottom of the page, there is a capacitor attached individually to each tattoo, further implying that you have to have a capacitor individually attached to each separate tattoo of a power. The wording also states nothing about attaching one to a relay specifically, only to the powers that happen to be attached via a relay.

If you really put these rules into perspective, the feat setup can be very very powerful in the hands of an experienced psionic character/player, and I would think that attaching a capacitor to a relay and saving 2 slots would just simply nudge it into excessiveness.

Claws of the Vampire, ML 5, 750gp

How do you get the tattoos for that cheap?

Offensive Prescience, augmented to 4PP:
50 gp x 3 (effective power level from augmentation) x 4 (ML) x 2 (personal power in a tattoo) = 1200 gp.

Claws of the vampire
50 gp x 3 (power level) x 5 (ML) x 2 (personal power in a tattoo) = 1500 gp.
