Hiya Folks,

I would like to create a feat which allows soulknife and psychic rogue levels to stack for certain class features, however. I am having a little trouble coming up with something which I believe to be balanced. Below is the feat which I created. I would very much like to get some feedback regarding the balance/logic/mechanics/etc of the feat. Any and all comments are welcome. Also, the name is not written in stone, so if someone can come up with something better I'll use that. Anyhoo, here it is ...

BLADE PSYCHIC
You have learned how to combine the mental discipline of the soulknife and psychic rogue to devastating effect.

Prerequisite: Mind blade, ability to manifest 1st level psychic rogue powers.
Benefit: Your soulknife and psychic rogue levels stack for the purpose of determining the mind blade enhancement bonus of your mind blade. For example, a 4th-level soulknife/2nd-level psychic rogue would have a mind blade enhancement of +1, as if she were a 6th-level soulknife.

Your soulknife and psychic rogue levels also stack for the purpose of determining your psychic rogue powers known as well as the characters maximum power level known. For example, a 3rd-level soulknife/6th-level psychic rogue would have 7 known powers and a maximum power level known of 3, as if she were a 9th-level psychic rogue. However, the character does not stack soulknife levels and psychic rogue levels for the purpose of determining power points.

Lastly, the character can shape his mind blade into a tool which enhances his thieving skills. Once shaped this tool grants an enhancement bonus to pick locks and disable device checks equal to the character's mind blade enhancement bonus.

Special: This feat can also be used by soulknife/lurk characters. This can be accomplished by substituting all mention of psychic rogue with lurk.

So, what does everyone think? Is it balanced? All feedback is welcome. :)

Edit
1) Does Blade Psychic sound better than Soul Psychic? I changed it to blade. :)
2) Added lurk as a possible class combo with this feat. Thanks Rageheart.
3) Updated the feat.

Cheers

This would be easy to do! Simply substitute all mention of psychic rogue with lurk. :D

Alrighty, I just thought up an interesting ability to add into the feat. I believe it would not unbalance it, however, I am unsure. So, let me know what you think.

The character can shape his mind blade into a tool which enhances his thieving skills. Once shaped this tool grants an enhancement bonus to pick locks and disable device checks equal to the character's mind blade enhancement bonus.

What do you all think?

I like the concept, but I think it'd work better like this:

Psychic Assassin
Your most violent impulses are unleashed when you catch an opponent off-guard.
Prerequisites: Mind blade enhancement +1, psionic sneak attack +1d6
Benefit: Your soulknife class levels and levels in the class that grants you psionic sneak attack stack for purposes of determining your mind blade's enhancement bonus and enhancements and your psionic sneak attack damage.

In addition, when you successfully use both psychic strike and psionic sneak attack on the same foe in a single attack, it is dazed for one round unless it succeeds on a Will save. The Difficulty Class for this saving throw is 10+half your character level+your Intelligence modifier.

I like your idea, however. I would think that it would be more suited to a core rogue/soulknife combo instead of a psychic rogue. Also, I believe the lurk is the one that receives psionic sneak attack not the psychic rogue (iirc).

Oh yeah, here is the updated feat:

Again, thanks for the help all!

Eh, take it or leave it. Your call. I'd rather have more sneak attack damage and a chance to daze than a bunch of powers that I don't have the power points to use.

And you're right that the psionic rogue gets normal sneak attack, not psionic sneak attack. That was a mistake on my part.

I have to agree with Panic on this one. This is just odd.

I don't think there are any analogus casting feats... something where, as a feat, you get caster levels and higher spells that you don't get slots for... granted the analogy isn't as good with psionics... Practiced Manifester/Caster adds up to a flat 4 with no extra powers or power points... the synergy feat for caster/spellthief only adds to the level of spell you can steal, but not your casting... you're getting that from the caster class you are actually leveling in...

Granted, Tome of Battle lets you count half your non martial levels as initiator levels... so maybe something that add's half your non-psychic rogue/lurk levels to manifester level, but doesn't increase powers or power points since there is something in game like that already...

I like the idea, but the execution seems like it could be abused.

I know that its slightly different from the norm in that instead of stacking for sneak attack it stacks for determining psionic powers etc. I did this because, at least to me, the psychic rogue is focused equally on both his sneak attacking and his psionic developement. So, I tried something a little different when creating this feat.

I am glad that you like the idea! As far as abuse goes I believe that it would be difficult because the levels don't stack when determining power points (or manifester level for that matter). So, for instance, a character which is a soulknife 16/psychic rogue 4 would have 5th level psychic rogue powers, however, his manifester level would only be 4. Also, his power points would be that of a 4th level psychic rogue. :(

Thanks for the feedback!

Hm. That's a good point. The psychic rogue is a good split down the middle of rogue and psionics without having to bother with multiclassing/PrCing.

Ok. I misunderstood... I originally thought that manifester level increased as well and the character would probably just run around with a lot of power points in batteries/storage crystals.

...does this mean that the character won't even be able to manifest some of the powers he knows since he can't spend enough power points?

This also made creating a feat extremely difficult. I wasn't to sure which way to go with it so I decided to do something slightly different.

You are technically correct. In a build with mostly soulknife levels the feat will prove almost useless, however. Like all feats a player must choose whether or not to take it. Now, if we were to look at a character which was something like this: soulknife 4/psychic rogue 16, the feat would prove extremely useful. This would allow the character to manifest 5th level psychic rogue powers and have enough power points to fuel them. :) Throw in practised mind blade from dragon magazine as well as practised manifester and you are rocking!
