Does a psionic character use her base stat or her enhanced stat for bonus PP? My natural inclination is to use the base stat, because that's how it is with bonus spells, but I don't see any mention of this issue in my book.

Thanks,

If you have a psion with a +6 enhancement item to intelligence you use the enhanced version to calculate bonus pp.

If you are a wizard with a +6 enhancement item to intelligence you use the enhanced version to calculate bonus spells per day.

;)

You might be thinking of temporary boosts instead of longer lasting ones from items though, in which case no classes get bonus pp or spells from them.

How do you figure that enhancement items grant bonus spells? They're just permanent versions of the enhancement spells, which do not grant bonus spells.

The effect of the items last longer than 24 hours, which is the time typically given to acclimate the body to the changes. Some items do not even work unless they have been worn continuously for a day.

I've always looked at from a legalistic point of view. Enhancement bonus = no bonus spells. But the other way makes more sense in a 'realistic' sense.

They are not permanent versions of the enhancements spells though, they are items that happen to use the spell in some way while the item is being made.

The items themselves do not list the restriction, nor is there a duration to the effects, plus the number of the enhancement can even be different than that granted by the spell!

Look at the circlet of persuasion as an example. It grants a bonus unlike anything that eagle's splendor can even do but it still uses eagle's splendor in some way to make it.

The items do what they say they do while the spells in the tag line are almost meaningless. Since the various enhancement boosting items do not say that you cannot get bonus spells and pp from them then you do, as per the normal rules of having a higher stat.

Enhancement bonuses will not give skill points at level up though, no matter how long they have been on or the duration of the effect.

Then it should be even easier! ;) The items do not say that you do not gain the normal bonuses for having a higher stat (with the exception of the headband of intellect) so you do. Problem solved.

Point taken. I've been thinking of the spells, and their accompanying restrictions, as the precedent from which to judge all enhancement bonuses, regardless of source.
