| Rathis03-15-07, 07:57 PM | Call Weaponry and the Soulbound Weapon option detail how to enhance weapons that are summoned but doesn't detail alternate materials such as alchemical silver, adamantine, deep crystal, etc. I couldn't find any details on how that would work. We decided to houserule an extra 1pp for manifesting a weapon of alternate materials for now. Anyone have any further info or suggestions? |
| InkBlot03-15-07, 08:20 PM | Call Weaponry, even when used with the Soulbound Weapon variant, can only call weapons made out of ordinary materials. The power's text specifically says so. That's why you can't find any info on how it would work - because it doesn't work. I think your houserule is way too cheap. Special materials are normaly worth slightly less than +1 enhancement bonus, but when you can change materials on the fly the special materials become a lot better. +1 power point is too little a cost for always having the right material for your opponent's DR. I'd say +4 power points for a special material. |
| AntiDjinn03-15-07, 10:25 PM | +1 power point does seem a little cheap. Compare it to the weapon special ability Shadow Striking (Tome of Magic p. 155). That ability lets the weapon attune itself to overcome DR and is priced as a +3 bonus. What you are proposing is weaker than Shadow Striking in that you have to know what material to call for (in fact, even know that your opponent has DR) while Shadow Striking is automatic. Then again, when you call a weapon of silver it is ready to hit round one while Shadow Striking weapons need to hit once to attune themselves (once attuned they stay attuned until 1d4 minutes after their last contact with a creature with DR). |
| Crovaxan03-16-07, 03:20 PM | i was thinking the same thing since i got a lvl 1 psy war thats gonna take the soulbound weapon ability. the easiest answer is since u can pay 5 pp to add enhancments pay the 5pp and make the weapon metalline. Now you can have your weapon made of whatever metal you want. |
| InkBlot03-16-07, 04:01 PM | A lot of people want to have Deep Crystal soulbound weapons so that they can qualify for Psychic Weapon Master (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/psm/20040827d) with it (and because Deep Crystal is realy cool). Metalline falls short there. |
| vahju03-18-07, 01:39 PM | You may want to look at the "Call Armor" power in Complete Psionic Handbook. One of the augments is to get mithral (4 points) or adamantine armor (8 points). I am all for adding a special material augment to "Call Weaponry" but it looks like it might be a bit expensive for crystal or deep crystal materials. Especially since deep crystal allows you to pump for extra damage. |
| Part-Human203-18-07, 03:12 PM | ...Metalline falls short there. Why? Because deep crystal armor is considered to be made out of metal, druids cannot wear it. |
| vahju03-18-07, 04:33 PM | Why? Psychic Weapon Masters have to use a crystal or deep crystal weapon. That is why the comment was made that metaline weapons fall short. |
| Part-Human203-18-07, 05:16 PM | A metalline weapon can be changed into a weapon made of crystal or deep crystal, so "hubba-wha"? |
| PhaedrusXY03-18-07, 06:28 PM | A metalline weapon can be changed into a weapon made of crystal or deep crystal, so "hubba-wha"?I agree. Either it is considered to be made of metal for all purposes, or it isn't. Since druids can't wear it because it "counts as metal", then Metalline should work fine. Defining it for each circumstance in the way that screws over the players most effectively (which seems to be the attitude of some DMs and game designers) is just stupid, and unfair. |
| InkBlot03-18-07, 08:28 PM | A metalline weapon can be changed into a weapon made of crystal or deep crystal, so "hubba-wha"? I was under the impression that a metalline merely counted as being various other metals for the sake of bypassing DR, not that a metalline weapon could actually be turned into other materials. So, for example, a metalline weapon could bypass DR 10/deepcrystal but wouldn't let you spend 2 power points for +2d6 damage. I'm sorry if I made a mistake. I couldn't double-check since I don't own the book myself (another person in my gaming group does). |
| PhaedrusXY03-18-07, 10:25 PM | I don't own the book either, but this old thread (http://boards1.wizards.com/wotc_archive/index.php/t-289375) certainly implies that it turns into the metal. |
