| celestialkin06-10-07, 11:39 AM | Hey guys. Can someone please clear this question up for me? If I were to summon an Astral Construct in the first round of a battle, could I then summon a second Astral Construct during the second round of combat, and if I needed to could I summon a third Astral Construct on the third round of combat? If so, would I still be able to mentally control each of them as a free action (3 free actions to order them about + 1 extra free action each time I summon a new one). |
| Bacris06-10-07, 11:47 AM | Unless you use the rule in Complete Psionic, yes, you can have and control as many Astral Constructs as you can manifest. |
| Suldarr'essalar06-10-07, 11:48 AM | If you don't use Complete Psionic: - Yes you can. One minute too late :P |

I'll just add this to the list of reasons why I hate Complete Psionics. |

In addition to Complete Psionics, the number and type of free actions you have in a round is controlled by your DM. |
| Tempest Stormwind06-10-07, 02:24 PM | Even with Complete Psionic, there *is* a way to get more than two active at once. Hyperconscious has a shaper power in it called Throw Ectoform, which is sort of a cross between Mirror Image and Unseen Servant -- every round, a fragile duplicate of you shows up, confusing your opponents and acting on your orders at the time of throwing. There's a prestige class in that book focused on that power -- the Astral Zealot. Five levels in it provides you with an extra menu choice for your astral constructs, assorted character-based goodies... and, once per day, the ability for your thrown ectoforms to have the stats of a third-level astral construct. Now, I normally don't have a problem controlling multiple constructs quickly (I've managed my own turn plus three constructs' turns in the amount of time our TWF critical-hit cuisinart finishes his many, many attack/damage rolls), but managing a new construct every round on top of whatever other ones you toss out and your own turn... while effective, it can be rather maddening. (The really cheap stunt with it is that they last as long as the Throw Ectoform power does, and while you can only control as many as your manifester level at once, they get replaced if they fall. Throw Ectoform also meets the conditions for Persistent Power, if you're truly insane.) |

| Tempest Stormwind06-10-07, 04:17 PM | Or you could just use a constructor (If your DM allows Minds Eye T-T) Constructor IS awesome, no denying it. It's one of my favorite PrCs of all time. However, if the DM is being stupid and using the CPsi nerf, even the constructor can't be saved. The zealot, however, CAN, since the astral constructs created are NOT actually part of the astral construct power, and thus aren't bound by the nerf. |
| Tyroki06-10-07, 04:24 PM | It would seem most people hate the Cpsi, so I don't see much worry there ^^; Unless your DM has bias against Psionics. |
| Lycanthromancer06-11-07, 12:10 PM | Yes, and how many DMs have that issue? |
| CrimsonDeath06-11-07, 07:55 PM | If you're using CPsi, there's also the Ectopic Adept, who can throw two Astral Constructs at once. (Not a very good option, as I understand, but since it answers the question, it bears mentioning.) |
| Lycanthromancer06-11-07, 08:01 PM | If you're using CPsi, then don't go shaper. Get some other subset of psion, and get Expanded Knowledge for the few powers you want from their list. Seriously, it's that bad. |
| Tyroki06-12-07, 08:51 AM | I've been looking through the Cpsi again and... While I understand most of it... I just don't see an actual use or need for most of it. >.> I'm tempted to tell me DM to shove the Cpsi and class it as 4th party xD |
| Bacris06-12-07, 09:47 AM | Complete Psionic does have some good stuff - don't just completely throw it away. The ardent, the lurk, the soulbow, several of the feats, powers, and items, and a few other bits are worth keeping. Overall, I'd say about 20% of it is worth keeping. I'm currently playing an ardent and definitely see the strengths and weaknesses of the class - it's a well-balanced class, but it requires a lot of thought into your class features or you can easily end up with a bit of a worthless party member. |
