Caster/Manifester Level [Archive] - Wizards Community

06-26-07, 10:28 PM I can't figure out if manifester levels from multiple manifester classes (say from Psion levels and Wilder levels) stack. I thought they did, but caster levels from different caster classes don't, do they?

06-26-07, 10:35 PM See pages 17-18 of the XPH for specific examples of psionic multiclassing. Manifester levels from base classes do not stack. Power points go into a single pool, but both base and bonus points are figured for each of your classes by level as normal. If you are a psion/wilder then you need to know your ML in each and keep track of which powers you know as a wilder and which as a psion; you use your Int to set the DC of psion power, Cha for wilder. At no point do you add the levels together.

Manifester levels for PrC's stack with ML from a qualifying base class only if the PrC says so. ML from PrC's with their own progression chart (such as Warmind and Fist of Zuoken) does not stack with your existing base class.

Yikes, I have a character I've been playing very incorrectly. I don't own the XPH, so can you perhaps tell me if those examples exist in the SRD?

At no point do you add the levels together. Can I use my wild surge for powers I know as a psion?

Manifester levels still stack for psicrystal advancement, right? Maybe that's where I got the idea that the base classes stacked.

06-27-07, 01:50 AM The SRD lacks example text. That is one of the areas in which it differs from the published version of the rules. It was never meant to be used to play the game, it is a tool and resource for developers. If you use the SRD instead of the books then you have to figure out how to play the game without specific examples or sample characters. Sometimes this works against you (many who use the SRD alone show up here with this question) sometimes you come out ahead (for example, you are not cofused by the plethora of recent example PrC characters who are not even legal for the PrC they represent).

06-27-07, 02:12 AM I had the same question about multiclassing for the purposes of the Elemental Envoy feat. I read the faq up top, but I am still confused. I think I got this from it, if I have 5 levels of psion and 3 levels of ardent, then the elemental envoy will be leveled as if I were a level 8 manifester, correct? And what if I took Practiced Manifester for the ardent, which says it raises the manifester level by four, would that make the manifester level 12 for the elemental envoy? Man, I need an easier hobby. :confused:

Normal: Your manifester level is equal to your total levels in classes that manifest powers.

No. This is exactly the same as the whole "(counting only levels in psion or wilder)" from the psicrystal section -- it's overridden everywhere else in the book, so you should take it as an error.

If you change "classes" to "any given class" and adjust the relevant grammar for number, it works just fine.
