| Choon05-24-07, 10:49 PM | I recently purchased Hyperconscious and I was troubled when I saw that there were only six companion stones listed when the text said that ten could orbit one's psicrystal staff. Is there a list that I haven't been able to find or some kind of crafting guidelines I can use to make my own somewhere? |
| Tempest Stormwind05-24-07, 10:50 PM | You'd probably want to raise this on Malhavoc's forums. |
| Choon05-24-07, 11:00 PM | Don't tell me I'm the first to notice this... |
| Bacris05-25-07, 12:21 AM | Nope, I've noticed the same. My first 3.5 psion, a kineticist, had a psicrystal and a psicrystal staff, as well as a companion stone of far sight (i think...) - i was disappointed at the lack of options. |
| Choon05-25-07, 12:54 AM | Ok, good. How would one go about making their own system for such things? Is there an item formula that I can follow? I know that the wand formula is caster lvl x spell lvl x 75 (or something close). |
| AntiDjinn05-25-07, 04:25 AM | You can have multiples of the same type of stone orbiting. For some this won't provide a benefit; a Diplomacy stone grants a +4 competence bonus and such bonuses do not stack. If you have two Companion Stones of Diplomacy the only time it will matter is if someone manages to grab one of them you keep your bonus. For those stones that confer their benefit for a limited amount of time per day, having more than one of the same can be useful. The Companion Stone of Resistance only works once per day for up to 5 minutes, so if you have 4 of them that is 20 minutes of benefit in four 5 minute increments. I am sure Bruce will introduce more companion stones, but they are just too busy for my taste. I see psions as being less dependent on and concerned with material items and "stuff" and here is an option to be so into your gear that your items have items (and flashy obvious ones at that). |
| Explosive_Zombie05-25-07, 04:43 AM | I wish I knew what either of these items were... My local stores don't carry too many books outside of D&D material. Are there any online descriptions of these items? If not I'll just have to try to order the book. :P |

Considering the backlash he got from Complete Psionic and the fact that Hyperconscious is, what, 3 years old? I doubt it... especially since it's material from Malhavoc, not from WotC, and Malhavoc has changed their focus a bit. |

Does the other guy get them with the staff or do they clatter to the ground in your space? On the one hand, they are each a separate item and Retrieve only targets a single item (though if a bag of holding is retrieved its contents go with it). On the other hand, when a person with ion stones orbiting his head teleports or is teleported the stones travel with him and remain in orbit. |

I am tempted to say they remain in orbit because I see them as part of the staff as a whole just as I see iouns becoming part of you as a character in spite of the fact that they aren't touching you. The same goes with equipment and such. So unless the effect description says specifically that the effect takes x and only x, I would keep all items on the character and stones with the staff, etc. |
| CrimsonDeath05-26-07, 01:28 AM | What happens to the companion stones when you undock your psicrystal? I didn't see anything in the item description that said your psicrystal had to be docked in order for you to benefit from the companion stones, but I wasn't sure... |
