I've been meaning to post this for a while, actually, but never found the time. Well, I'll go over the various controversies in the book and my take on them.

Base Classes
Ardent- I actually like this guy, but feel he just needs a little rewording in the flavor text
Divine Mind- Great, A psionic bard/paladin. I'm sure we'll get a lot of use out of it.
Lurk- Now why couldn't it have had trapfinding so we don't have to use those cookie-cutter psionic rouges.

Prestige Classes
Anarchiac Initiate- Any comment I have with this thing has been raised, accept one, which I'll discuss later.
Ebon Saint- Meh... Moving on
Ectopic Adept- 1. I hate Ectopic Form 2. The AC nerf was pointless. Ergo, This prc stinks.
Flayerspawn psychic- DIE DIE DIE, ABOMINATION TO ALL THAT IS PSIONIC!
Illumine soul- Interesting... But nothing to call home about
Soulbow- Now if only the mind arrows where a bit better enhanced...
Storm Disciple- As if we didn't have enough storm classes. And this one doesn't even have a connection to the classes its intended for. :yuck:
Zerth Cenobite- Cool. Now if only it wasn't a monk prc...

Feats
Ectopic Form feats- DIE DIE DIE!
Host feats- A weak copy of Kalashtar and the Inspired. I just made them Kalashtar and Inspired racial feats
Enervation Endurence- The wilder's saving grace. THOUGH SHALL TAKE THIS FEAT!
Illithid Heritage Feats- See Flayerspawn Psychic

Powers
Just one thing I want to talk about here. The positive and negative eneergy feats should be psychoportation, and involve opening small gates from the planes to here. Oh, and what are powers with an alignment descriptor besides evil doing here (Evil is sometimes ok since it could be that using the power is morally wrong)

Items
No comment
Monsters
Ectopic Form ACs- See ectopic form feats
Ectoplasmic Swarm- Wierd... And what possible connection does it have to the book?
Elemental Stewards- ... Not that great
Larval Flayer- Great... I really did not want to know more about neothillid existance.
Shadow Eft- Cool
Sibyllic Gaurdian- How does a wierd arcon with language stuff pertain to psionics?
Spectral Savant- Why use it when you can have Mindborn?

Miscelanious
Synads- Wierd. But cool
Six Hidden Houses- ... Interesting, but just a filler. I'd have preffered another QUALITY prestige class.
Racial Classes- Another filler. GARBAGE!
Guilds- Hm... Words still out on these.
Euridite- What is everyone's problem with this guy? He just is more learned than psions. He still had to have that psionic "spark" in him to become a Euridite in the first place.

Over all, I'd have to say Untapped Potential (I don't own Hyperconscious yet) is a much better, not to mention cheaper, buy. And that it seems Wizards really hates us...

Divine Mind- Great, A psionic bard/paladin. I'm sure we'll get a lot of use out of it.

I like the divine mind. Adjust the flavor a bit, tweak the auras, and give him full BAB.

Lurk- Now why couldn't it have had trapfinding so we don't have to use those cookie-cutter psionic rouges.

Just give it trapfinding, or remove it that ability, along with the Track feat for good measure.

Enervation Endurence- The wilder's saving grace. THOUGH SHALL TAKE THIS FEAT!

If it's a no-brainer like Natural Spell, the feat shouldn't be a feat in the first place.

Just one thing I want to talk about here. The positive and negative eneergy feats should be psychoportation, and involve opening small gates from the planes to here.

Why isn't energy bolt a psychoportation power, then? Isn't it summoning ectoplasm charged with energy? If you can charge ectoplasm with fire or sonic energy, why can't you charge it with negative or positive energy?

Ectoplasmic Swarm- Wierd... And what possible connection does it have to the book?

Ah, you mean the spiders that live on the Astral Plane? The ones that are starving in a world in which no one ages or feels thirst or hunger?

I do just that ;)

I remove trapfinding myself. Anyone willing to invest that many ranks in search and disable device deserves to find them. That, and not many classes get them on their class list.

It's more a fix than a feat

I LOL'd.

Celsun, you know where its at :P

Yeah Sir_Dwar, your basically echoing a lot of whats been said by more people than I can count.

I concur. I really like this charatcer class, but I feel it has been made just a little bit too much like the cleric, only weaker.

Divine Mind- Great, A psionic bard/paladin. I'm sure we'll get a lot of use out of it.

I am still trying to figure it ... I think it could work, with the right mantles. But to be honest I feel that the philosopher/warrior concepts have been covered too well with the monk and the sword sage. It just doesn't quite go for me.

Lurk- Now why couldn't it have had trapfinding so we don't have to use those cookie-cutter psionic rouges.

It's supposed to be a psionic assassin ... kind of. But it just feels too ... I don't know, too "Lets do a psychic rogue but lets not call it a rogue, lets try to make it different", you know?

Prestige Classes
Anarchiac Initiate- Any comment I have with this thing has been raised, accept one, which I'll discuss later.

Zerth Cenobite- Cool. Now if only it wasn't a monk prc...

The Zerth Cenobite works great as a monk class, there are too few of them, and psionics fit in with the monk self-disciplin of body and mind.

Feats

Illithid Heritage Feats- See Flayerspawn Psychic

What can I say? What hopeless no-brained munchkin said to themselves: "It is physically impossible for sexless illithids to create any half-offspring with any race at all ... so let's introduce some half-illithid concepts ... that's be cool!" I have never met a sadder excuse in my life that made less sense. No, don't try to make it make sense, it never will and you will only inflict further damage upon the game's internal consitency.

On the other subjects, some of the powers are quite good. Much of the rest ... well it feels like filler material. This should have spent another six months in the pipeline until some really good feedback came in from the XPH to boost it. I felt it was very rushed, myself.

Illithid can magically/psionically create half-illithids. So if these half-illithids cross bred with normal examples of their kind you could get a illithid legacy.

While I agree that the Flayerspawn Psychic PrC is an abomination from the Abyss, I have to say that if you alter the flavor text on the Illithid Heritage feats, they aren't that bad (oh yeah, and fix the Illithid Blast feat so it actually can function).

I agree, it was very rushed... The wierd thing is, with the right feats, a 5th level Human Fighter can take levels in anarchiac initiate!

(1 for wild talent, and 1 feat for that one that makes all skills class skills for humans)

Actually, Half-illithids are non-humans who illithids put their tadpoles in for some bizarre reason we were not meant to know. There is nothing that says half-illithids are sterile. But I still say the Flayerspawn Psychic is an abomination to all that is psionic, and that we should send EVERY SINGLE Illithid Slayer ever made after them.

Actually, looking at the Half-Illithid template in Underdark (FR), it says it is a template that can be applied to any corporeal creature except constructs. So there could be a half-illithid human.

Also, it notes that it comes from illithids experitmenting on the base creature's reproductive system, not ceremorphosis.

I don't personally have the problem with the Flayerspawn Psychic and the feats that so many others here seem to have. However, I did like the idea I read somewhere to reinterpret them as a conscious effort by a psionic character to become like illithids (using powers and surgery) rather than actually descending from them.

Underdark = Forgotten Realms

The Half-Flayer Template in fiend Folio, however, cannot be applied to human.

Yes.......so? I even noted in my post that Underdark is a Forgotten Realms book [note the (FR) after the title].

The fact that Half-Flayer from FF can't be applied to humans doesn't negate the fact that Half-Illithid can.

And Sir_Dwar, to whom I was responding, said Half-Illithid, not Half-Flayer.

I don't recall reading that ceremorphosis disables the original creature's plumbing. I think it's quite possible for an illithid to have sex and possibly even fertilize (or be fertilized by) another creature. However, not having a brain means that the illithids likely lack a sex drive entirely (though they probably get aroused right after a feed. Remember that illithids eat brains to provide their host bodies with the various hormones and whatnot that the parasites themselves cannot make.)

That's not to say that the Illithid Heritage feats and the flayerspawn psychic don't suck. They suck tremendously. However, the possibility of them existing isn't as far-fetched as one might think.

Well I like the LUrk it's suppose to kill stuff, not find traps. Plus A Psi Rogue is supposed to be good a a number of things, or focus on one. This makes it work like either a spy, scout, assassian, even a tracker. The Lurker is more focused. If this turns you off fine, but it does what it does well.
