Control Body on self? [Archive] - Wizards Community

Would you allow a kineticist to manifest Control Body on himself?

Manifester loses:
all AoOs, DEX-Bonus to AC, STR-Bonus to hit & dmg;
power ends as soon as another power is manifested (end concentration).

Manifester gains:
INT-Bonus to hit, damage and AC.

It could be a very good combat enhancer for a gish or melee build. Swapping the bonus of INT 22 for STR 12...

It would be no good to use Solicit Psicrystal on the power (frees your concentration), 'cause the INT score of the psicrystal is rubbish.

I think I'd allow it, for the manifestation of powers is the highest asset of the manifester. To use this power on self gives you a bonus until you manifest again.

03-15-07, 08:39 AM This seems to be a pretty interesting concept. You could use control body on yourself if you get paralyzed, allowing you to act semi-normally until the paralysis wears off, assuming that happens within 1 minute per level.

To TRULY twink that trick, combine it with either Solicit Psicrystal or Schism -- in both cases you can continue to manifest while your other source of concentration controls your body. (Requires a feat, sadly...)

Question: Do you use the INT-modifier of the psion or the crystal, when you use Solicit Psicrystal? The INT score of the crystal is rather low, so you wouldn't get a huge benefit from it.

Schism power for this is COOL.

Solicit psicrystal says that the psicrystal takes over concentration on the power, and makes Concentration checks if necessary, nothing more.

If the attributes of the psicrystal were used, it would also cause problems with elements like manifester level (since a psicrystal usually has no manifester level), and would become more complicated to use as you switched over to the psicrystal's statistics on the fly.

The effect of the power is to simply give you an extra concentration through the medium of your psicrystal.

03-15-07, 12:10 PM The psicrystal also quite possibly has a higher base attack bonus than the psion (unless it is a psi-gish). So even if you use the crystal's int, that makes up for it somewhat.

03-15-07, 12:51 PM You're psychokinetically pushing the creature's limbs around (not controlling its body via mind-control), so yes, it would, unless the creature is turned to stone, or something.

All-in-all, Control Body is a very useful power, if you use it right.
