| Lokiyn11-09-07, 04:46 AM | Sentira: This bizarre material is wrought by Chosen, Inspired, and (rarely) kalashtar who use powdered crystal and the power of their thoughts and emotions, also drawing on the essence of Dal Quor. ... For purposes other than those described in this chapter, sentira is treated as mithral. Sentira can be formed, sculpted, and repaired only by psionic creatures that have the Craft (sentira) skill. ... Ok so cutting out the majority of the flavor text to avoid coc violations we get the following Sentira is mechanically equivalent to mithril Its made from crystal Only Psychics can make it Checking in the XPH we find the statistics for crystal. (8 Hardness, 25 Hp per Inch) However Crystal is a special material with no cost adjustment which prices any item (normally composed of metal) made from crystal at the exact same cost as the normal version. So, if i'm reading this correctly. Psychics can produce Mithril Quality items at the mere expenditure of a single power point per day of work. Which this has basically been a round about way of saying that Crafting characters who are also psionic should be perfectly willing to take their normal weapons and make them into Sentira, Thus Iron(10H/30Hp) --> Crystal(8H/25hp) --> Sentira(15H/30HP + 50% Weight, Armor Size Down 1 step) Basically for free. Correct me if i'm wrong, but thats a real nice deal. |
| Mercurius11-09-07, 03:06 PM | If it's mechanically equivalent, wouldn't that mean it costs the same as Mithral, too? |
| Fatalis_90211-09-07, 10:35 PM | Don't have the book, but it should specify the price for this stuff. |
| CrimsonDeath11-09-07, 10:48 PM | Don't have the book, but it should specify the price for this stuff. It probably should, but it doesn't appear to. It simply says that it's equivalent to mithral for all purposes not described there. Since price isn't described there, one presumes that it's equivalent to mithral in that regard as well. |
| Lokiyn11-09-07, 11:15 PM | Here is what the book specifies Sentira is forged from crystal and emotions. The crafter must expend a power point each day he works with the material and have ranks in Craft(Sentira). Thats it for making it. The end result is that "For purposes other than those described in this chapter, sentira is treated as mithral." In other words Sentira is not Mithral, but has the same effects as mithral, This does not mean that it is the same cost as mithril though. (Going from the book Sarlona is Lousy with Sentira as the most common decorative material in the lands held by the inspired. This combined with its production method of crystal gives the implication that its not something expensive as mithril.) Basically Sentira is psionically treated crystal with the same end statistics as mithril, however its creation cost is "one power point per day working with the material" as well as the powdered crystal. Crystal is stated as having the same costs as iron which would put it at about 1sp per Pound. I'm not really trying to make anything broken here, i was simply pointing out the materials benefits and low costs according to the book. On the other hand you have to love "Hey, Idabolde" "Yeah, Mialee?" "Why does this sword feel happy, and why does it scare me so?" "I thought of you while i made it" "...." Plus i tend to craft all my own stuff anyway, so the unique visual apearence and "feelings" of the Sentira really fit the characters well (although no one asks about it, I know about it) |

| Lokiyn11-10-07, 02:02 PM | Heh, On a more practical note i was looking at it somemore, and from the looks of it, it seems like a good material to homebrew a feat Sentira Psicrystal {Psionic}Delving deep within your mind you reforge your psicrystal using not your mind but from the wellspring of your emotionsBenefit:You Recraft your Psicrystal into a Tiny Sentira Scuplture, although the exact form varies the form is largely a matter of personal taste, although the form is usually thematically linked to the emotion. As a result of the size increase consult the table Creature Size and Scale (i'll find a page number later) for the changes to the psicrystals statistics. The psicrystals self propulsion ability is now constant and no longer requires activation. As a side effect of the composition change the psicrystal now has a hardness of 15 rather than 8.Humour:Sanguine Color:White, Silver Associated Element:Air Suggested Personalities:Artiste,Friendly,Hero,Reso lved Suggested Forms:Air Elemental,Arrowhawk,Genie, Djinni,Giant, Cloud,Green Dragon,Mephit Benefits:The Sanguine Sentira Psicrystal is an energetic creature, outgoing courageous and fun loving and is known to channel its energies into the pusuit of an art form, the more active the art form the better. In addition to the listed benefits if the feat the Sanguine Psicrystal’s ability to fly (if the owner is high enough manifester level) is now a constant ability and no longer needs to be activated, and its maneuverability is improved to by one step, for each additional Humour added to the crystal it’s maneuverability improves by one step Special:This feat may be taken multiple times, each time the Owner chooses a different Humour and the crystal gains the abilities of the new humour, As well as adding the new color of its humor to its schemeIf this feat is chosen four times the crystal posesses all four humors and its color scheme achieves complete realism, the Sentira crystal now appears like a real (if tiny) version of the monster it emulates tinted slightly with its primary (initial) color. If this level of completion is achieved the psicrystal will continue to exist even after its masters death, its hit dice and skills are not reduced to zero by the death of its master, and it may choose to work to take steps to restore its master, or it may choose to live its life as an independent. |
