| Thot11-22-07, 03:18 AM | I am not aware of any way to counterspell a manifested power. Does anyone here know if there is some way to achieve this result, please ? Thanks :) |
| calronmoonflower11-22-07, 03:29 AM | No such mechanic exists under the Rules As Written. |
| CrimsonDeath11-22-07, 04:30 AM | Unless you're using third-party material (such as the Anticipate Power feat from Hyperconscious). |
| Red_Wizard11-22-07, 01:33 PM | Maybe I'm missing something, but wouldn't dispel magic end a manifested power, much the same as a spell precast? -RW |
| Lycanthromancer11-22-07, 02:47 PM | Psionic disintegrate: Better than dispelling. Dispelling just interrupts the power. Disintegrate does that and causes massive damage. Just look at the average DC you'd have to make at a minimum-manifester level disintegrate. Now, look at what it would be Overchannelled, or wild surged. Compare the chances of another manifester making that check as compared to a successful dispel check. Now, think of all that yummy damage you'd do once your foe got hit with that ray of yours. Have fun. :) |
| Tempest Stormwind11-22-07, 03:25 PM | Maybe I'm missing something, but wouldn't dispel magic end a manifested power, much the same as a spell precast? -RW Dispel Magic (and its derivatives)'s third mode, "counterspell", can and will counter psionic powers if you ready it, just as readily as it counters spells, under transparency. Dispel Psionics does NOT have that option, note. Still, Lycanthromancer's correct. Forcing a Concentration check they can't make is better than countering, since it combines a counter with damage and potential death. |
| Lycanthromancer11-22-07, 03:27 PM | Heck, try it with Split Psionic Ray. I'm sure that that kind of damage would easily disrupt nearly anyone's manifesting. :) |
| Thot11-22-07, 04:37 PM | Well, I thank you for your answers, they are duely noted for future reference. :) Alas, I still have two troubles : - it just so happens that the PC I had in mind when I asked this does not have the required level... for he's a Seer 6 / Quori Mindhunter 4, when Disintegrate (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/powers/disintegratePsionic.htm) is a level 6 power... I'll just have to suck it up for a while longer, I guess. - Plus, against what we're up to (some unknown entity, currently wayyyyy above our level, that manifests through constructs...), I'd rather not have to force a Fort check / Concentration check (DC 10+damage (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/skills/concentration.htm)) on it, for I doubt its efficiency. And it would make it anyway, I'm sure... I guess my best bet will be to talk to my DM about adding a third option to Dispel Psionics (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/powers/dispelPsionics.htm), then, to be on par with Dispel Magic (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/dispelMagic.htm). Thanks again, I appreciate the help and advice :) |
| AntiDjinn11-22-07, 06:13 PM | Heck, try it with Split Psionic Ray. I'm sure that that kind of damage would easily disrupt nearly anyone's manifesting. :) Nothing disrupts your concentration like simply being killed outright. If a ray is doing d6 per point (per ML if the manifester is spending to his limit) and the target only has d4 per level for hit points, then the odds of killing him are pretty good. If you don't manage to kill him, but the ray was in response to his manifesting, the Concentration penalty should be heavy enough to force anyone to blow the roll. Yup, my group has always stuck to the Paranoia motto of "vapors don't shoot back" and has been more proactive in our "counterspelling." Don't counter the spell or power, counter the caster. |
| CrimsonDeath11-22-07, 08:09 PM | Heck, try it with Split Psionic Ray. I'm sure that that kind of damage would easily disrupt nearly anyone's manifesting. :) Assuming your DM lets you hit the same target with both rays (something that isn't explicitly allowed by the feat). |
