| zeldaria02-25-08, 02:26 AM | Hello! This is my first actual venture in communicating with random strangers about D&D *gasp*. Hope I don't come off as a newb (or does that only happen in MMOs?), but if I do...be gentle. ;) Anyway, as the title implies, I have created a character sheet for the Ardent class found in the Complete Psionic. It is a manipulated version of Wizard's classic 3.5 char sheet that I personally prefer. It utilizes the EPH Psion Skills table, mostly because I was too lazy to add the additional skills in between the core skills. I just at this moment realized that I forgot to pre-draw the Xs into the class skill boxes, but you can handle that on your own. I was accidentally able to add 2 more "blank" skills as well. Because Ardents can obtain 6 mantles, this character sheet is most suited for Ardents. You could potentially use it for a Divine Mind if you were desperate, but I don't know if I would. The campaign that I'll be playing my Ardent in uses the "Psionics Is Different" option, so both spell and psionic resistance are listed. Similarly to skills, I was able to add two more lines for both Feats and Special Abilities...again, more accident than intent. In order to fit the special Psionic fields into the second page, you'll notice that Languages took over Money, and thus Money took over some lines in "Other Possessions" (you'll also notice I've added a weight formula for coinage, in case you have a nit-picky DM). If I have forgotten, messed up, or inexcusably altered anything, please let me know. I'm open to suggestions, so feel free to comment. The last thing I have to add is the site I'm hosting these on has a pathetic bandwidth, so be patient with it. I had to split it into two PDFs in order to upload it. If it's not working, let me know and I'll just email the darn things >_> www.geocities.com/zeldaria195/ardent_custom_p1.pdf (http://www.geocities.com/zeldaria195/ardent_custom_p1.pdf) www.geocities.com/zeldaria195/ardent_custom_p2.pdf (http://www.geocities.com/zeldaria195/ardent_custom_p2.pdf) PS: I found that it's easier just to copy & paste the URLs. Sorry for the trouble! |

Desperation is a requirement to even want to play a Divine Mind, so that woud be appropriate. The campaign that I'll be playing my Ardent in uses the "Psionics Is Different" option So not advised, but it is your game. More work for the DM, not so much for the players. Unless psionics is as common as magic, or the DM institutes Arcane/Divine non-transparency, your psionic character will run into spell effects he won't be able to detect, analyze, or dispel way more often than a spell caster will be stumped by a psionic effect. One thing I would advise to all DMs using this option: Spellcraft should be able to definitively determine that an effect is not magic, Psicraft should always be able to determine if an effect is not psionic. For a mage to see a power being manifest and not be able to determine that it is not a spell being cast, would be like an ichthyologist looking at a rabbit and not being able to determine that is it not a fish. Even if he knows nothing about another specialist's field, an expert should always be able to tell when something falls outside of his own. www.geocities.com/zeldaria195/ardent_custom_p1.pdf (http://www.geocities.com/zeldaria195/ardent_custom_p1.pdf) www.geocities.com/zeldaria195/ardent_custom_p2.pdf (http://www.geocities.com/zeldaria195/ardent_custom_p2.pdf) Links appear to be broken. |
| Lycanthromancer02-25-08, 09:53 AM | Links appear to be broken.CPsi AND Psionics is Different? This situation appears to be appropriate. :D But in all seriousness, AntiDjinn is right. Psionics is Different is a rules variant, and a very bad one at that. It's one of the main two reasons why people complain that psionics is broken, when it's not. The other reason is that they're not following the rules, and break the system by doing things they're not actually capable of doing. In any case, enjoy your time with psionics, and have fun. |
| zeldaria02-25-08, 04:36 PM | So not advised, but it is your game. More work for the DM, not so much for the players. The DM this character will be playing under is less concerned about work and more concerned about congruency. It doesn't quite make sense to have Psionics immune to magic (and vice versa), but it doesn't make any more sense to make them equivalent either. I personally don't have any qualms about the rule, and it was the DM's suggestion :) Spellcraft should be able to definitively determine that an effect is not magic, Psicraft should always be able to determine if an effect is not psionic. I really like this suggestion, and I plan on mentioning it at the next session. I agree with your point regarding this topic. Links appear to be broken. Are you just clicking on the link or are you copying & pasting like I recommended? I can't tell you why the links are broken, but c&p works on both my machines. |

As of last night all I got was a service unavailable error message. Today I can get to a download pdf screen. If you can post this in format that can be viewed without having to be downloaded, you will likely get more responses. |
| Xerj02-28-08, 09:35 AM | Thank you very much! I've been looking for something just like this recently and nothing has come close. I'm used to just leaving out the magic and psionics page of most character sheets and just doing my own thing on a blank sheet, BUT NO MORE! Again, thanks. |
