| Kreelix05-12-07, 03:08 PM | I have a huge question: If one Psion manifests Deja Vu on another Psion who just manifested another power on his last action, what is supposed to happen? Does the power repeat itself, or not? How about if he manifests Deja Vu as a second action after manifesting a first power? Also, are power points used up a second time? Any answers to this would be very helpful. Thanks! Kreelix |

It'd be like my shaper trying to manifest Metamorphosis: I don't know the power, I can't spend PP on it, but I can sit there and blindly try anyway (which is what will happen if you Deja Vu). Deja Vu doesn't allow powers to be duplicated. It forces them to try. I don't get your second question, though, about the second action. |
| AntiDjinn05-12-07, 07:08 PM | Deja Vu does target powers, it targets "one creature". It doesn't cause any event to repeat itself, it causes a subject (who fails his save) to attempt to repeat his previous action. If you manifest in on boulder that just fell and crushed someone it does not cause the boulder to fall again. Why? Because Deja Vu is [Mind-Affecting] so boulders (and other objects) are not applicable targets any more than powers or spells are. In your specific example of a manifesting it on a psion who manifest a power on his last action: Your target is the psion. If he fails the save, he repeats his action of the previous round, so he manifests the same power again. The points come from his pool (or from a Cog Crystal, if that is what he used last round) just like normal (he is manifesting the power after all). If he can't repeat his action (out of points, Cog Crystal depleted, no applicable target, focus expended and he used a metapsionic on the power last round) then he does nothing. |
| Think002805-12-07, 11:30 PM | Another slightly relevant question: if Allen attacked Bob, who was standing to the left of Allen, and then Bob moved 5 feet to another side of Allen before Allen's next turn, what would happen if someone manifested Deja Vu on Allen? Would he stab Bob or where Bob was standing? |
| Lycanthromancer05-13-07, 05:29 PM | That's part of why some of us would like some errata on the power; we don't know if it's purely subjective to the target, or wholly objective. I'd say you can do either, at the manifester's option... |
| AntiDjinn05-13-07, 06:38 PM | The power is Mind-Affecting. The descriptive text says: "...forces the subject to repeat the actions it took on its previous turn." It forces a repeat of the same actions, but does not always mean the same outcome. On his previous turn Allen attacked Bob, he did not choose to attack a position on the battle map that Bob was unlucky enough to be occupying. You can bet Allen's player told the DM something like: "I take a swing at Bob" not: "I swing at the position to the left of me." Unless the character was swinging blindly (in which case he was attacking into a space) his action was to go after a specific character. Deja Vu makes him repeat the action from the previous round, so when in doubt go back to what the player said to the DM about his character's action for the round. Specifically: The power makes the subject repeat his actions, not his motions. Where it gets tricky is when you move to attack: A charge or fly-by would be common examples. If you did a Psionic Lions Charge followed by a full attack, then you should have to Manifest the power again, move again, and full attack (even if no one is there) at the end of your charge. Where possible you will charge the same subject, but if he didn't move then you may not be able to attack him on the second round. |
| AntiDjinn05-13-07, 07:08 PM | Regarding what is "an action" and so bound to be repeated look at the following: On a given round of combat a psion is hit with a Lightning Bolt spell and manifests Damp Power as a counter-measure. He fails the reflex save so he takes the full minimized damage instead of half. He then manifests Extended Fly and flies 10 feet straight up. After his action he is hit with Deja Vu and fails the will save. On his next turn, what does he do? Going through his previous round: Manifest Damp Power: Yes, that is an action (an immediate action), but No, he doesn't have to repeat it. Deja Vu only makes the subject repeat the actions it took the previous turn, and he took that action out of his turn. If he had manifested a swift action power on his turn then he would have to do it again. Failed a saving throw: No, not an action. It is never an action to attempt a saving throw, so just because he failed one on his last turn does not mean he is bound to repeat his failure under Deja Vu. Manifest Fly: Yes, it is a standard action. He has to manifest the power again. This will just waste points because he already has Fly active (durations don't add, they superimpose). The only possible benefit will be having Fly active twice so it is less likely to be dispelled. Apply the Extend Power metapsionic: No, this isn't an action. Using a metapsionic is done as part of another action. Anyway, this option isn't open to him because he already expended his focus. Expend Focus: No, not an action; expending focus is done as part of another action. He isn't focused anyway, but even if he has a focus stored in his psicrystal he isn't required to expend to repeat a non-action (and using an exterior focus would not be a repeat of the previous turn's action in any case). Fly 10 feet straight up: Yes, that is a move action so he does it again. If his move action was "move 10 feet away from my opponent" then he might move laterally if that puts him farther away, but if his move action was "I fly 10 feet up" then he does that again. Hope there isn't a low ceiling. |
| Zemyla05-14-07, 11:32 PM | You know what would be awesome? * Psion A manifests Deja Vu on Psion B, but B makes his save. * B manifests Deja Vu on A, who fails. * A manifests Deja Vu on B, who fails. Repeat until someone makes a saving throw or runs out of PP. :D |
| BloodSpill05-15-07, 08:02 AM | This and Temporal Acceleration would be silly. |
