does this work on any hostile intent toward anybody or just toward the caster?

does it detect future hostile intent (e.g., i will kill him tomorrow at the market)?

Thanks

It doesn't say anything about who the intent is focused on. I'd say if you meet another party and the bard is planning to stab the cleric later that night, you'd detect them as hostile, but not who he's hostile to or when he's planning to be hostile.

The power detects hostile intent, it does not specify who the target of that intent might be (nor does it reveal the target). Intent means planned action, not just strong emotion; someone who loathes you but has no intention of taking action against you will not set it off. Note that while the power species that it detects "active aggression" it does not limit this to physical attacks. So if a rival at a society ball is planning to spread malicious gossip or attempts to shift the attitudes of the crowd towards hostile towards you, that is an aggressive act and should set off the power (DM's call). In the right setting, mere words could constitute aggression.
