| Rageheart03-14-07, 01:13 PM | Forgive me if this has been mentioned/asked/answered before... Does the Scorn Earth Ability lifting the character's feet from the ground prevent the benifits of Skate? (Namely the faster movement) |
| The_Ditto03-14-07, 01:35 PM | a strict reading of the rules seems to indicate that no, they don't work together. That being said, I'd probably be inclined to allow it to work - as long as you were within 1 foot of solid ground ... (ie once you get further out, Scorn Earth turns into "levitate" - mechanically .. and Skate wouldn't help there ..) But I think the flavour of Scorn Earth should allow them to work together - within reason .. But, again, a strict reading seems to imply it won't work ... :tiphat: |
| Rageheart03-15-07, 01:53 PM | so is this the concensus of the board? any other discussion? |
| Halaku03-15-07, 02:11 PM | Seems like, long as your within 1 foot of a solid surface, be it floor, wall, ceiling ( <3 elocators ) then skate works. |
| Lycanthromancer03-15-07, 02:22 PM | What does everyone think about Skate and slick surfaces, such as ice or Psionic Grease? Should you still be forced to succumb to it, since you're sliding around anyway? I'm currently working up several additional augments (and negative augments) for almost every power in the XPH. I'm on page 22 and climbing (sorry, Bacris, the page count was 20 last night, not 13). |
| Halaku03-15-07, 02:29 PM | hmm.. id think that it would be a balance check for things suddenly getting even closer to frictionless, but if you made it a good sized speed bonus, though perhaps issues with turning. |
| Rageheart03-15-07, 03:50 PM | Skate Psychoportation Level: Psion/wilder 1, psychic warrior 1 Display: Material and visual Manifesting Time: 1 standard action Range: Personal or touch; see text Target: You or one willing creature or one unattended object (total weight up to 100 lb./level); see text Duration: 1 min./level (D) Saving Throw: None Power Resistance: Yes (harmless, object) Power Points: 1 You, another willing creature, or an unattended object can slide along solid ground as if on smooth ice. If you manifest skate on yourself or another creature, the subject of the power retains equilibrium by mental desire alone, allowing her to gracefully skate along the ground, turn, or stop suddenly as desired. The skater’s land speed increases by 15 feet. (This adjustment is treated as an enhancement bonus.) As with any effect that increases speed, this power affects the subject’s maximum jumping distance. The subject can skate up or down any incline or decline she could normally walk upon without mishap, though skating up an incline reduces the subject’s speed to normal, while skating down a decline increases her speed by an additional 15 feet. (This adjustment is treated as a circumstance bonus.) If you manifest skate on an object, treat the object as having only one-tenth of its normal weight for the purpose of dragging it along the ground I would think that Grease would have no effect at all. |
| Dalmaris_cerebromancer03-15-07, 07:03 PM | I don't think it does. |
| SlanderPanic03-16-07, 12:26 PM | If anything, I'd make grease grant the downhill bonus. I tend to look at skate as bending space just enough to get you where you're going faster. (This, by the way, is how warp drive works in Star Trek. The engines warp space and the ship then slides along the warp.) |
