| Soluphobe04-11-07, 04:25 PM | Really deal 1d6 untyped damage per round after round 3??? I know, flavorwise, that it should be fire damage, but it seems to be untyped (therefore bypassing Fire Resistance or Immunity). Has WotC fixed this? |
| Tempest Stormwind04-11-07, 04:34 PM | No, they haven't paid any attention to psionics rules at all since Complete Psionic. Seriously, use common sense and you know it's fire damage. If you don't use common sense, fine, call it searing damage and it fits just fine. If you're going to split RAW hairs *that* much, there are better things to split it on. For instance, submerge someone and use Matter Agitation not on them, but on the water around them. Boiling water, RAW, does 10d6 damage per round of exposure if fully submerged. |

Ooh, I never knew it could be that awesome. How many rounds to boil water? |
| Tempest Stormwind04-11-07, 05:59 PM | Ooh, I never knew it could be that awesome. How many rounds to boil water? Nephlite, I shouldn't need to say this to you, but if you have a rules question, read the rules first. Matter Agitation's in the SRD. |

It is easy to overlook the 2nd round unless you look carefully. Took me a minute or two to see what you meant. Seems almost overpowered to be able to deal that much (granted the requirement of being fully sumerged makes it hard to pull off easily). |

| Soluphobe04-11-07, 07:13 PM | Thanks. A player of mine has this power, and he basically uses it like a death ray. At CR 1, 7d6+1d4+1 is rather hard to shrug off. I tried using Protection from Energy on it, but he says differently. (He's really into Rules As Exactly And No More Written.) I don't have errata for XPH, so I was hoping that, with the advice of some rules-gurus, I could safely house-rule the obvious without any fear of dissension. I mean, at ~10d6 more damage per level...! This thing is a Psionic Creeping Cold! |

It takes time to hit that point, and you need to submerge them *completely* for it to hit that point (otherwise it's just another 1d6). It's really not all that hot at higher levels except as a fun power. Try sending people against him who don't wear metal armor, or who are a real threat *now*. BUMPING INTO HIM will force a Concentration check to end the power. Now, if you're STILL concerned, be glad he's settling for 1 damage, 1d4 damage, and 1d6 damage per round instead of his ML d6 damage per round, which is what he could be doing if he were actually manifesting instead of concentrating on that effect. Or he could be using one of the nondamaging powers and tearing a new one in your enemies that way. |
| crizhII04-11-07, 08:07 PM | Its duration is concentration. You only need to leave it's range or smack the manifester a decent shot. I'm sure it has a lot of creative uses though. It'll melt lead and wood ignites. That's at least 320 Celcius. Hot, darn hot, hotter than a snakes a$$ in a wagon rut. I don't know if that's hot enough to work steel but there's plenty of other things you could do. |
| Lycanthromancer04-11-07, 10:45 PM | That's why you set your psicrystal (or Schism) up with your concentration, then smash them into the water with Telekinetic Maneuver. Voila. |
| Soluphobe04-12-07, 09:10 AM | Where does it say you can have your Psicrystal maintain a focus? As far as I know, it can just hold a Psionic Focus, and you have to burn a feat to get it to do that (I had the same idea and spent about an hour looking for it). |

| Soluphobe04-12-07, 09:26 AM | *Slaps head* Thanks. I was thinking the only way was Schism. (If you can't tell, the BBEG is psionic...) The reason I'm concerned about this is that it is, after all, a 1PP expenditure for continual lethal annoyance (I have still to contemplate whether Control Flames works on this). |

It won't work if you're simply burning the opponent without setting them aflame. Seriously. He's WIDE OPEN while using it and he's stuck concentrating on a subpar effect. It's nothing by comparison to what he could be doing, except in terms of endurance. (It does work wonders for charging up an Energy Conversion, though.) |
| Lycanthromancer04-12-07, 09:31 PM | What happens if you boil water using a Maximized, Empowered Matter Agitation? |
| GraeGor04-15-07, 12:13 PM | Im curious, and I know there's an old Dragon article dealing with the tempertures generated by various spells, but what is the approximate temperature that Matter Agitation generates while it is in use? And how long would it take for an object to cool down after power ends? |
