Does SR work against Psionic? [Archive] - Wizards Community

07-07-07, 09:15 AM Someone in my gaming group asked to play a Psion and I said sure.

Then they found out that SR works against Psionics and they then changed there mind.

The question is does SR against Psionics or not?

07-07-07, 09:18 AM Per the default setting, yes SR works against Psionics and PR works against Magic. However, you as the DM could change the ruling and have it not work interchangeably like that.

If there's also a Magic-User in the party throw some creatures up against them with PR too, it should let him know that it all evens out.

Short answer: Yes, unless you're using the asking-for-trouble variant rule.

First, thanks for being a good DM. So many just spout out a knee-jerk no when they here psionics. And not only are you allowing it, you're also checking out how the rules work before a player can start breaking them in the game. Awesome.

Anyhow, the default rules assume the magic and psionics are the same thing for all purposes. You can dispel psionics, nullify magic, etc. Generally, if there's ever a dispute about whether psionics behaves in a particular way, ask how it would work if it were magic and you have your answer.

The effects produced by psionics are considered as if magic (and vice versa), but certain abilities only work against psionics, and Psicraft and Spellcraft remain distinct. UMD and Use Psionic Device also remain distinct, though they probably shouldn't.
