double psionic shot (or fist, or weapon) [Archive] - Wizards Community

11-04-07, 12:45 AM If someone managed to have 2 psionic foci (such as with the psicrystal containment feat) could this person expend both foci and apply the extra damage from psionic shot (or fist, or weapon) twice?

11-04-07, 01:05 AM Well you could use Psionic shot twice, but the effects don't stack. You roll the bonus damage twice and then apply the highest of the two.

if you did it that way you would actually have to go with the second rolling, even if you got a better roll on the first set. It would be better to simply use it on more than one attack per round.

But they happen at the same time. Any order imposed on the two rolls would be due to a layer of abstraction thanks to the fact that the game system models the events of the game world.

Furthermore, what if both sets of bonus dice are rolled simultaneously? Suppose the player has green dice for one use of the Psionic Fist feat, and red dice for the other, and does not declare which one is "first". How would you propose that be resolved?

Same way as if the player were to roll two d20s for a full attack and didn't declare which was first. They declare and roll again, or maybe get called out for cheating, since that's not how the game works.

But in that case, it's two separate actions, which don't occur simultaneously. Both uses of Psionic Weapon are part of the same action, and do occur simultaneously.

Yup. The damage overlaps - it isn't negated by the other use.

Given you're expending two psionic foci for such an endeavor, I'd allow it - I don't see how it's against the rules... In fact, I'd say you're unfairly penalizing yourself, since if the attack misses, you're really screwed.
