| Jarysha09-11-07, 01:31 PM | I'm playing a kinetist and i'll get my 9th level soon. I was thinking about taking Ectoplasmic Shambler as one of my 2 powers and I was looking for good combos with it. One thing bothered me though... the damage type  Ectoplasmic Shambler Metacreativity (Creation) Level: Psion/wilder 5 Display: Auditory, material, and olfactory; see text Manifesting Time: 1 round Range: Long (400 ft. + 40 ft./level) Effect: One ectoplasmic manifestation of a size equal to ten 10-ft. cubes (S) Duration: 1 min./level Saving Throw: None Power Resistance: No Power Points: 9 You fashion an ephemeral, manylegged mass of pseudo-living ectoplasm called an ectoplasmic shambler. You can direct the shambler as a free action. It has a speed of 10 feet. It can completely surround objects (and opponents) over which it is manifested or onto which it moves, because it has the consistency of thick mist. The vision of those within the shambler is limited to 5 feet, and manifesting powers (or casting spells) within the shambler is difficult due to the constant turbulence felt by those caught in the shambler’s form. Creatures enveloped by the shambler, regardless of Armor Class, take 1 point of damage for every two manifester levels you have in each round they become or remain within the roiling turbulence of the shambler. Anyone trying to manifest a power must make a Concentration check (DC 15 + power’s or spell’s level) to successfully manifest a power or cast a spell inside the shambler. A wind stronger than 20 miles per hour that blows against the shambler reduces its speed to 0 feet during the first round, and in subsequent rounds moves it in the direction of the wind at a speed of 5 feet. A wind stronger than 20 miles per hour that blows in the direction the shambler travels increases its speed to 15 feet. Does it have unnamed damage, force damage or physical damage type... does DR hinder it? I was thinking of sending my psicrystal with touchsight as a scout with this (really nasty) shambler to clean up all those evil lairs :P Do you think my little pet-rock will survive with his Hardness? ((and yup, my english still suck :P)) |
| Tempest Stormwind09-11-07, 02:02 PM | Does it have unnamed damage, force damage or physical damage type... does DR hinder it? No type is given. It's therefore typeless. DR never applies against spells or powers. It's even SR: No, so magic immunity doesn't apply to it. In short, things in it take the damage regardless -- but see below. I was thinking of sending my psicrystal with touchsight as a scout with this (really nasty) shambler to clean up all those evil lairs :P Do you think my little pet-rock will survive with his Hardness? Hardness is different from DR, since hardness applies against all sorts of damage unless otherwise specified. Thus, hardness will apply against the ectoplasmic shambler. ((and yup, my english still suck :P)) Relax; it's better than several native English-speakers I know. |
| Lycanthromancer09-11-07, 03:38 PM | Relax; it's better than several native English-speakers I know. And thus begins the first sign of the apocrolypse. :P Just kidding. You know we love you, Tempest. Anyway (to the OP), yeah, he pretty much it it right on the head. |
| AntiDjinn09-11-07, 05:10 PM | It is simply damage with no descriptors or modifiers. The defense is not being there. It only moves 10 feet per round, so simply walking away might be considered a defense. Typical combos involve immobilizing or slowing opponents so they can't get out of the area. The principle use of the power is a a debuff/hinderance for enemy casters and manifesters. Just blocking line of sight cuts a caster's options considerably. By the way, though the power only mentions a single concentration check to cast or manifest within the area, subjects actually have to make two. The first is the check indicated by the power: DC of 15 + level of power/spell they are trying to use (this is the same as for a distracting, non-damaging power of 5th level). The second is as detailed under the concentration skill for casting/manifesting while taking continuous damage: DC of 10 + half of continuous damage taken that round + level of power/spell they are trying to use. |
