| heavenisme02-13-08, 07:42 AM | I need to know I have a question about elans If a elan is hit while trying to manifest a power, and takes dmg but uses resilence to absorb all of it does he still fail the concentration check to manifest? |
| Bacris02-13-08, 07:49 AM | Manifesting the power is unaffected if all of it is absorbed: "• Resilience (Su): When an elan takes damage, she can spend power points to reduce its severity. As an immediate action, she can reduce the damage she is about to take by 2 hit points for every 1 power point she spends." "If you take damage while trying to manifest a power, you must make a Concentration check (DC 10 + points of damage taken + the level of the power you’re manifesting)." If you reduce it to 0, you technically have taken 0 damage, so it wouldn't trigger the need for a Concentration check. |

| Asurya02-13-08, 08:14 AM | a little off-tracks from the original question: would Resilience protect you from second effects of attacks (like poisons which kicks in only if the mean (usually weapon) inflict damage)? I mean, I think DR is what dev had in mind for the wording of these second effects. |
| McPoyo02-13-08, 08:31 AM | I would personally house-rule "Yes", but I'm not aware of any official statement to back that one up. |
| CrimsonDeath02-13-08, 12:13 PM | Generally, if Damage Reduction would absorb the damage from an attack, it also prevents the secondary effects of that attack (like poison). Resilience states that the damage is "reduced", so it could be interpreted as a form of "damage reduction". |

I mean, I think DR is what dev had in mind for the wording of these second effects. Whenever damage reduction completely negates the damage from an attack, it also negates most special effects that accompany the attack, such as injury type poison, a monk’s stunning, and injury type disease. Damage reduction does not negate touch attacks, energy damage dealt along with an attack, or energy drains. Nor does it affect poisons or diseases delivered by inhalation, ingestion, or contact. Attacks that deal no damage because of the target’s damage reduction do not disrupt spells. Well, if the elan ability is analogous to damage reduction, then it does. Just treat it as "whenever a special ability completely negates the damage from an attack..." and you're probably good. Edit: I've got to stop wandering off from the computer... |
