I was just wondering what everyone thought about the Elemental Envoy option from the CompPsi to replace the Psicrystal. I have the Psicrystal Affinity feat which is a prereq for the Envoy. I won't be able to take envoy for a few levels, and was just wondering if anyone had done it and had any opinions.

Plus Side: If you're 7th + levels, they're eligible to have one of their feats reformed to Mindsight.

Minus Side: They don't gain hitdice. Or hitpoints. Or feats. And no hardness. It doesn't use your ranks. And you spend a feat for this privilege.

If you can convince your DM to let them gain hitdice and have half your hp, like psicrystals, they could conceivably be an interesting choice, if only for a mindsight radar. Other than the mindsight option, they don't really have enough of an advantage to justify a feat in my opinion. Even with hitpoints, they become dubiously more effective than a psicrystal due to the limited uses of powers per day, though Mindsight is still so utterly brilliant of a power that it's a good use of an open slot.

The EE is really good stuff, early. Then it fizzles. Luckily there are ways around it. Especially at 1st level, an EE looks kinda
broken. At 2nd, merely powerful. At 3rd, it's weak compared to characters, but still stronger than a psicrystal boosted and buffed. Fast forward to 6th level - you could take Leadership. What's better: 1 Elemental Envoy; or 1 Psicrystal AND 1 Cohort ???
Dismiss the EE, retrain the feat slot, use 6th level slot for Leadership. Gold. Erudite is best for this approach.
EE makes up for some of the early iffy-ness of Erudite. Personally, I like the earth EE, but the air EE gets fly.
