Elocater as a non-caster... [Archive] - Wizards Community

I’m looking for some help on making an elocater that doesn’t manifest, I love the idea of it and want to be able to get there through soulknife.
But I haven’t seen it done anywhere before...
I would modify it myself, but I’m hopeless at balance and nobody in my group would let me near them with the idea unless I have some input from somewhere else.

So how do you balance it if you take out 7 manifester levels and change dimension step (3rd level) and transporter (6th level) to be (somehow) non-manifested?

Some ideas I’ve had:
Make dimension step and transporter times per day
convert the manifester levels into power points to so you can cast dimension step and transporter/use in feats but I believe you cant do that due to meta-psionic cap((not sure) where you cant use too many power points based on your manifester level, manifester level=0 therefore 0 power points, I could be totally off with that)

Thanks in advance for any help you can give

Dimension Step is already psi-like once per day.

Dimension Step is already psi-like once per day.

so it is...how did i miss that

would making transporter and dimension step both powers and add a handfull of pp to the class so you could cast one of each per day be balenced or not?

dimension step usualy costs 7pp
and transporter allowes use to use teleport and planeshift for 5pp each rather than 9

personaly i would like to be able to use dimension step more than once per day. why make it so you can get somewhere but not back

so hat is the value of the manifesting levels, exactly how much better can i make its abilities without going overboard?
giving it pp and making it able to cast its abilities i'm sure goes against the convention for psiconic prc's

Well, there's a full-BAB class that can cast dimension door every 1d4 rounds, so it shouldn't be a problem. Mind you, I like the elocator just fine as is. If you don't like powers, don't use them ;) .

its not so much the powers, its the levels wasted to get them, and the flavor of the class doesnt actualy need them, other than the ones provided anyway

what clss can use dimension step every 1d4 rounds i've never seen that before?
that would work wonderfully here but might make dimension spring attack a tad too powerful...

i just realised that taking hidden talent twice technicly lets you into the prc, but what happens to all the +1 level of existing manifesting class, it would all be nulified and transporter would be unavalible to you so its not a very apealing option

i guess the real reason i want to rework the elocater is that its description mentions nothing ablout manifesting powers
Elocaters are renowned for their agile combat stratagems, using their knowledge of motion and space to set themselves up for quick attacks against slower opponents.
it goes on, talks about their combat and movement abilities, but nothing about powers.
i guess it annoys me that something with such a rich real world bounding through the thick of things class is restricted to manifesters.

i guess i'll just have to dip into psy-warrior and not get transporter till 9th level. dimension step 1/day is bogus and dimension spring atack is abit whop de do you can only do it once

Sorry, but it fits somewhat with some of the psionic feats I've seen, notably up the wall. Besides, some powers - (i.e. precognition, skate, levitate, to name just a few) fit my idea of an elocater well enough. I tend to imagine it as a Matrix-ey class, to be honest.

I would use these variant class features -
Dimension Step (Su): An elocater of 3rd level or higher can slip psionically between spaces as if using the psionic dimension door power, once per day. The elocater cannot bring any other creatures with her. Her manifester level for this effect is equal to her elocater level. Since this is a supernatural ability instead of a psi-like ability, it can not be augmented.

At 6th level, an elocator can use of her dimension step ability twice per day. At 9th level, she can use the ability three times per day.

Transporter (Ps): An elocater of 6th level or higher can move psionicaly parallel to reality as if psionic teleport and psionic plane shift. She can manifest these powers as psi-like abilities, once per day each, at a manifester level equal to her elocator level. The save DC is Charisma based. The elocater treats these powers as if they were 3rd-level powers.

Dimension Spring Attack (Su): An elocater of 9th level or higher can use her dimension step ability in conjunction with her Spring Attack feat. This ability can be used only against opponents within 60 feet to which the elocater has line of sight. She can dimension step up to the target, use Spring Attack, and then use dimension step to return to her starting point. (When she uses this ability, the total distance she can travel before and after the attack is not limited by her speed.) The use of this ability counts as one use of her dimension step ability on that day (and this ability is not available during a day when she has already used all her daily uses of dimension step).
- and any two of these new class features -
Skirmish (Ex): The elocator gains the skirmish ability of the scout. Her skirmish ability is equal to that of a scout of a level equal to her elocator level. If she already has skirmish, she may add her elocater levels to her scout levels for the purposes of determining her skirmish bonuses.

Improved Mind Blade (Ex): You add your elocater levels to your levels in the soulknife class to determine your mind blade's enhancement bonus to attack and damage rolls, and your mind blade enchancement class feature. In addition, you can add speed to the list of weapon special abilities you can choose from.

Speed Of Thought (Ex): At 2nd level, an elocater gains Speed Of Thought as a bonus feat, even if she does not meet the prerequisites. If the character already has this feat, her insight bonus to speed increase to 20 feet instead.

At 5th level and 10th level the elocater's benefit from this feat increases again, to 20 feet and to 30 feet respectively (or 30 feet and 40 feet if the character already had this feat).

Psychic Strike (Su): This ability functions like the soulknife ability of the same name. The extra damage dealth increases by 1d8 points at 1st, 5th, and 10th levels. The bonuses on damage stack with psychic strike bonuses from your soulknife class levels.
- to cobble together something worth playing.

Or you could look into the Psychic Acrobat from Untapped Potential.

Psychic acrobats use their psionic abilities to
supplement their physical prowess. By tapping
the power of the mind, they can effortlessly do
what other mortals only dream of, defying
gravity with simple movement and sophisticated
martial arts. The way of the psychic acrobat is to
find methods of maximizing the potential of a
small but renewable form of psychic power: the
flow of energy known as a psionic focus. With
training, a psychic acrobat can concentrate this
wellspring of psionic potential to serve as a
fulcrum, bending the very fabric of reality to its
limits while pushing her mind and body to their
own.
Psychic acrobats are most often monks, who are
no stranger to mobile combat without armor,
but it is also common for rogues and soulknives
to take levels in this class.

I’m looking for some help on making an elocater that doesn’t manifest, I love the idea of it and want to be able to get there through soulknife. The easiest way is change the requirements: "ability to manifest 1st level powers" to "ability to create a mindblade", and then +1ML to "increase soulknife level for purpose of mindblade enhancement, mindblade special abilities, and psychic strike".

Then just eliminate transporter and add more uses of dimensional step per day (1/2 class levels).

Perhaps it's slightly too powerful, but keep in mind that soulknives are underpowered.

InkBlot i like your ideas quick and easy whilst(to me at least) they seem balenced
Suldarr'essalar quick and dirty, and restricts you into being a soul knife, it is however quite efficient i'll be taking both these ideas to my group and see what they think will be the most balenced
thanks everyone and sorry for the late reply

You can keep the old version of elocator for manifesters and a quick fix for soulknives ;)
