Hiya everyone, I’ll be quick and get right to my question...

How does an Elocators dimensional step ability work when keeping in mind the updated version of dimension door in the complete psionic?

I'm also a little confused here, does this ability use/cost power points? and based upon the answer to this question can it be augmented?

Any help would be fantastic, thankyou!

It can be augmented (with ML equal to class level) automatically (if you want), amd it doen't cost pp.

so if i was lvl 9+ i could use augment 3 (dazzling those within 10 feet) and if i was level 13+ i could use augment 4 (move action)?

or do you mean if i was an elocator 2+ i could use augment 3 and if i was elocator 6+ i could use augment 4?

First of all, make sure you read the rules on Psi-Like abilities on page 184 of the Expanded Psioncs Handbook.

Dimension Step isn't a psilike ability (it's supernatural). The way it works is all sorts of messed up. It should be manifested as though you had spent power points equal to your effective manifester level (your elocator level), even though you don't have to spend any actual power points. Think of it as virtual power points.

Now the problem comes in at the fact that at the level you get Dimensional Step, you don't have enough "virtual power points" to manifest it. Obviously you can still manifest it despite this fact, but now you have a few options as to how you explain why you can manifest it.

1) Say the elocator gets a special version of dimension door that has a base power point cost of 3. Now a 3rd level elocator can use her dimensional step ability, and a 9the level elocator can augment the ability with an extra 6 "virtual power points."

2) Say that a 3rd level elocator can use the ability despite the base cost being 7 points, but that she can't augment the ability until she can at least pay the base cost. This is wierd, because a 3rd level elocator could use the reverse augments from ComPsi without "breaking" the psilike rules.

3) Say that a 3rd level elocator has to use the reverse augments in order to be able to use dimensional step, until 7th level when she finaly has enough "virtual power points" to pay for the full base cost.
