energy wall shape [Archive] - Wizards Community

06-01-07, 05:57 PM I was thinking about sonic damage it's ability to destroy objects when I noticed that the duration of energy wall is concentration + 1 rnd/level. This means that with enough time, you could destroy literally any object. Most wooden objects would fall in just a couple of rounds, but even harder objects, like an iron door(2 inch thick) would fall in just over a minute. 3 feet of hewn stone, even, with it's impressive 540 hit points, would take 10 minutes to destroy with a mere 5 power points.

The area of this is an opaque sheet of energy up to 20 ft long/level. My question is: does this sheet have to be a strait wall? or can it curve or bend? could a level 10 psion zigzag his 200 ft wall through a building to destroy it and everything inside? cutting down and back every 20 feet to cover every single 5' square a 200 ft wall can cover roughly a 40 x 40 foot area.

06-01-07, 06:34 PM The wall must be either be a straight line, or a circle. It can't have any gaps in it. The power says so explicitly. Unlike some other wall powers, an energy wall can be manifested at any angle -- it doesn't need to be vertical.

You're right on the mark regarding the destructive power of a sonic energy wall. A while ago I calculated that if you made a horizontal sonic energy wall then you could vaporize a 20 foot hole in the ground in about 30 minutes. It's a very effecient way to dig trenches and pit traps.

another question while we're on the subject, is the height of the wall the same as the length? so, could a fifth level psion create a sheet 100 x 100 ft?

06-01-07, 08:13 PM There is nothing anywhere that has ever officialy stated how tall a wall of energy is. Personally, I houserule that it's 20 feet tall. This is the same height as a wall of fire, the closest arcane equivilant.
