Epic Level and Divine Psionics [Archive] - Wizards Community

04-09-08, 01:00 AM I got to hop into a campaign with epic level characters, and I chose to play a psion. I need some clarifcation on some things, and suggestions on others.
Since I took Overchannel, Talented, and Epic Overchannel, I have a question about that combination.
Talented allows you to overchannel any power up to 3rd level powers without taking damage from it. This, at low levels, isn't terribly broken. A couple extra damage dice.
But if I'm right and talented applies to epic overchannel as well, then wow.
What I did was schism (as the power), which allows me to manifest two powers in a round at 6 levels lower. But teh schismed mind still retains all the feats, so it can still use epic overchannel.
I expended the psionic focus of both to use split psionic ray, then epic overchanneled an energy fire ray.
I critted on one of these, which according to the GM doubled the damage on that ray.
So that was 80d6 points of fire damage from that ray, 40d6 from the other one that was split off of that, and 2 times 30d6 from the schismed mind's split energy fire ray.
That is 180d6 + 180 points of damage.

Now. Given everything I just told you about the situation, I need to know what I was doing wrong.

Also, since my character is going to be getting divine ranks, and thus salient divine abilities, I'd like to ask which ones would be useful for psionic characters. I looked over them at some depth, and found a few that might be usefull, but none that explicitly applied to psionics. Something like Divine Power Resivoir would be great, but no such thing exists. And I have no way to know how many extra power points a salient divine ability would give.

I'd like to cross class into another class that grants power points, especially since from what I understood from reading the XPH that I get bonus power points from both of my classes. The only problem with this is that crossclassing would stunt the growth of my psion manifester level.
The metamind is good, but I'd rather convert the free manifestation slots into power points, but that wouldn't work out too well with the RAW.
Basically I'd like to have my cake and eat it too, and I need more power points if I'm going to pulling that move I mentioned earlier more than once or twice a day. I'm not sure that is possible.

Also, since I'm going to be spending something like 4 million gp on mind seed pearls from an extradimensional merchant. (Technically the merchant is divine rank 32, long since abandonned his portfolio and any interest in anything other than mercantile persuits, see also: lurking potential archvillian).
That is approximently 215 mind seeds. I know the new beings won't retain my divine rank 0, but I was wondering what the moral reprocussions would be of mind seeding 215 people.

I think that just about covers it. Other than the fact that I still have no idea how to effectively increase my divine ranks.

Wait, no, there is one more thing. I haven't seen a create your own power/psionic feat/psionic item/universal item thread. Somebody should make one or bump it please.

Your crit rules are house rules, but that's fine.
Assuming 40ML/level, 80d6 would do another 80d6, only if it's another target. Schism doesn't have to fire the ray, but if it uses it, the ML would be 34 (i.e. 40 - 6 ), crit check on it's own, split with secondary target only, 34d6 * 2 or double on crit. So that's an 80d6 and a 34d6(crit check) on one guy, and possibly also on another; or up to 4 targets.

Divine Rank 32, HAH !!
Deities are unstatted at DvR 21. You really can do anything.
Mind Seed can be justified via whatever. A LG deity says "I need to", and of course he does.
Most SDA's are adaptable. Just like Epic Feats are described as translatable into psionics, so can SDA's. If you really are playing up at Overdeity levels, you really can't overextend yourself.

Says I can get epic spellcasting slots. Can I just translate those spell slots into power points?

Also, how in the world am I supposed to get 29 int/wis and 40 chr?

Epic Overchannel, as I understand it at least, simply modifies the use of Overchannel. Thus, Talented does not technically 'stack' with it, they just happen to both apply to the same thing, and have different effects that work quite nicely together.

I might be wrong. Don't take my word for it.
