| Chaotis02-24-07, 11:14 AM | If you've read LoM, you know that some Elder Brains want to destroy the sun. This is a competition for the best way to do that with epic powers. You will be judged on creativity, Psicraft DC, and your description of the power. Tell me that you're in the competition before you make the power, please. And if you have an idea for how the Flayers SURVIVE, that's nice too. They're using the power from the planet that is like Earth in the campaign setting, which should make it MUCH, MUCH tougher. P.S. Don't recommend to put this in the Epic Level forum. I was recommended to go here from there already. |

| Tempest Stormwind02-24-07, 12:51 PM | They don't want to DESTROY the sun. They want to EXTINGUISH it. There's a difference. An epic spell akin to Invisibility that bends light would do the trick just fine. Another option is to accelerate time around the sun so that it ages into a white dwarf -- this is virtually exinct, but also irreversable. (This assumes the game star is 1 solar mass -- we can rely on the game world cinematic requirements to show that it wouldn't consume the earth on the way to a white dwarf.) What concerns me is that this is PURELY an epic phenominon and they told you to come HERE, where we almost exclusively deal with pre-epic material. |

I was the one who suggested for Chaotis to come here. Since the Epic forum has wilted (more slowly but just as surely) with the slow withdrawal of WotC support for most Epic material, its readership has declined significantly. If I was in error directing him here, I apologize; I simply thought it would be nice to get an actual response from the community. |
| Witch02-26-07, 06:55 PM | Epic support is rare here. For decent epic support, I recommend Dicefreaks. (Cfr. my sig for a link) I know Tempest doesn't like the site, due to his dislike of Planescape, but I'm sure he'll forgive me my support =) |
| Scion of Coldshard02-26-07, 07:08 PM | Assuming an earth like system (or at least where gravitational physics work) then do the following. Research Psionic Prismatic Wall Find a way to become immune to whichever energy type of damage the sun does (maybe disease too, depending on what radiation is in the game). Get an item to make yourself immune to vacuum, hunger, thirst, and all of those other pesky things that being in space does to you. Fly/teleport/whatever within range of the sun, manifest the power in a deep hole formed by the suns forces (it will fill in soon enough). Watch the sun be destroyed by the violet color effect. Be happy? sad? shot violently through space as the gravity well in your direction is now completely different? |
| Jaid02-26-07, 09:00 PM | well, i have three theories on this, all based on my knowledge of spelljammer actually. 1) obtain control of the spelljammer. assuming the fire body in question is dependant on mass for it's existence, the spelljammer can be used to fire sphere's of annihilation into it until the mass of the fire body is depleted. keep in mind the sphere will be pulled into the center of the body, where the bodies (assumed) spherical form will result in all the mass slowly being pushed into the sphere of annihilation. this also works with a regular sphere of annihilation and teleportation effects, i suppose. 2) assuming the fire body in question is dependant on extraplanar gates for it's existence (i believe most have gates to the elemental plane of fire or the plane of radiance, if there is such a thing in 3rd), you need an epic spell to close extraplanar gates. i assume this is more or less child's play for epic magic, given enough helpers. 3) finally, you could take the astromundi cluster box set, rip out all references to the crazy machine to destroy the sun (the boxed set is better without said plot anyways, imo), and glue it into wherever you would prefer it to be. start the device. (note: using the device does kind of have potential drawbacks, which may or may not include the extinguishing of most or all forms of life native to the crystal sphere, or the releasing of billions upon billions of lower plane inhabitants into the crystal sphere... which, upon further reflection, will likely lead to the first scenario anyways, just a bit slower) i suppose if you want, you could also do whatever they do in that old 2nd edition adventure (masters of eternal night or something like that is the second book of three, iirc), which actually also involves spelljamming now i think about it. |
