My understanding is that power stones are essentially to psionic manifesters what scrolls are to spell casters. I have several questions concerning how to imprint powers into a power stone. First, the description of a power stone in the Psionic Items chapter indicates that a power stone can hold more than one power, but it isn't clear on how many it can hold. Below is my interpretation, based on information contained in table 7-11 in the XPH (pg. 169). Minor - holds up to 3 powers from 1st to 3rd level. Medium - holds up to 4 powers from 2nd to 5th level. Major - holds up to 6 powers from 4th to 9th level. It seems to me that it would cost the same amount to put three 3rd level powers into a minor stone as it would to put the same 3 powers into a medium power stone. The only difference being that the medium stone would have one slot still available. If you have a power stone with an "open" slot, can you go back at some point and put another power into the stone, or is the stone "locked" once you have created it? I didn't find any text anywhere that specifically stated this. I also looked through the rules for creating scrolls and didn't see anything that specifically prohibited you from adding spells to a scroll that already had spells scribed on it, assuming you still had room available on the scroll and the resources to scribe more spells. In addition, I would also assume that the powers that you imprint into the stone don't have to be unique (i.e., in my previous example listed above, you could choose to imprint the same 3rd level power three times). Finally, I plan to take the new expanded class ability of Convert Spell to Power. I would assume that once I have converted an arcane spell to a psionic power that I know, I could then imprint that power into a power stone (as long as I meet all of the other requirements for imprinting a power, and have sufficient resources to do so). I appreciate any help with these questions and apologize if these questions have already been answered previously in another thread. Thank you in advance. |

I would allow you to add powers to an already existing power stone, but it would not change the cost the same as creating a new power stone. I am not sure if RAW allows this though. The ability says that you convert a spell into a power so you should be able to put it in a power stone, but you would still have to provide the verbal and somatic components. You may have arcane spell failure even though it is a power because it still has somatic components, but I am sure. I am sorry that this is all I can give you. Good luck. |

In fact I can find nowhere a limit to the number of powers you can encode into a single power stone. The chart appears to indicate the max is 6 powers though so I'm going with that. The rules for creating them are under the Imprint Stone feat, and they're made almost exactly like scrolls. You can put a spell you've learned as a power into a power stone, and it operates exactly as using a scroll or power stone normally. Nothing says you cannot encode a new power into a previously depleted power stone, or one which still has open slots. I would assume the cost is the same. |
