Euphoric Emplate

“Allow my emotions to guide your actions”
-Sihus, euphoric emplate

Euphoric emplates are psionic practitioners that are able to tap into their emotions in order to bolster the confidence of others. Using their raw mental energies, the euphoric emplate can instill courage and fervor in even the most timid of souls. Skilled in channeling unbridled emotion to the greatest effect, the euphoric emplate’s psionic aptitude is not to be underestimated.

Euphoric emplates are frequently maenad or human in stock, though they may hail from any race. The majority of euphoric emplates are wilders and rarely consist of other manifester classes due to the particulars of the prestige class. It’s not uncommon for the occasional wilder/bard to take to the role of a euphoric emplate finding the euphoric induced abilities useful in heightening their craft.

NPC euphoric emplates tend to be a social lot and are often drawn to cities, or similar locals, enjoying the company of others. More common, are the euphoric emplates who brave the wilds, in search of excitement with other like-minded thrill-seekers.

Hit Die: d6

Requirements
To qualify to become a euphoric emplate a character must fulfill all of the following criteria.

Skills: Knowledge (psionics) 8 ranks, Psicraft 8 ranks.
Feats: Skill Focus (psicraft)
Special: Surging euphoria class feature.

Class Skills
The euphoric emplate’s class skills (and the key ability for each skill) are Autohypnosis (Wis), Bluff (Cha), Concentration (Con), Diplomacy (Cha), Intimidate (Cha), Knowledge (psionics) (Int), Listen (Wis), Psicraft (Int), Sense Motive (Wis), Spot (Wis), and Tumble (Dex).

Skill Points at Each Level: 4+ Int modifier.

Table 1-1: The Euphoric Emplate

2nd +1 +0 +0 +3 Greater euphoria +1
3rd +1 +1 +1 +3 Euphoric cascade 15 ft, surging enhancement
4th +2 +1 +1 +4 Greater euphoria +2

Class Features
All of the following are Class Features of the euphoric emplate prestige class.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Euphoric emplates gain no proficiency with any weapon or armor.

Powers Known: Starting at 2nd level, a euphoric emplate gains additional power points per day and access to new powers as if he had also gained a level in whatever manifesting class he belonged to before he added the prestige class. He does not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained (bonus feats, metapsionic or item creation feats, psicrystal special abilities, and so on). This essentially means that he adds the level of euphoric emplate to the level of whatever manifesting class the character has, then determines power points per day, powers known, and manifester level accordingly.

If a character had more than one manifesting class before he became a euphoric emplate, he must decide to which class he adds the new level of euphoric emplate for the purpose of determining power points per day, powers known, and manifester level.

Euphoric Cascade (Su): Once per day per class level, a euphoric emplate can expend his focus in order to have their surging euphoria affect his allies. Those near the euphoric emplate at the time his surging euphoria is triggered receive the associated morale bonuses for a number of rounds equal to the intensity of his wild surge multiplied by two. Example, Sihus uses wild surge to boost his manifester level by two, and also expends his focus to trigger euphoric cascade. The morale bonus for himself and his allies would last for 4 rounds. If the euphoric emplate is overcome by psychic enervation while attempting to trigger a euphoric cascade, he and his allies do not gain the morale bonus for this use of his wild surge ability. Furthermore, allies within the euphoric cascade's radius are shaken until the end of the euphoric emplate's next turn. The area affected by this ability increases as the euphoric emplate gains levels as shown on table 1-1. Euphoric cascade is a mind-affecting ability.

Surging Enhancement (Ex): The euphoric emplate’s surging euphoria extends beyond just affecting damage, attack, and saving throws. At every odd level (1st , 3rd , and 5th ) the euphoric emplate may choose to have their surging euphoria benefit one of the following:

- Armor class
- 5 ft of additional movement per point of surging euphoria
- 5 temporary hit points per point of surging euphoria
- Skill & ability checks

These additional benefits only apply when the euphoric emplate uses his Euphoric Cascade ability.

Greater Euphoria (Ex): As the euphoric emplate continues to gain levels, his surging euphoria improves. His surging euphoria improves at 2nd level, and again at 4th level. The number indicated on table 1-1 is added to the euphoric emplate's surging euphoria ability rating to determine the morale bonus given to himself and his allies.

Very cool, especially with the Alternate Euphoria feat, get some nice DR going. I'm seeing a nice Wilder/Anarchic Initiate/Euphoric Emplate in my future...

Well, as written, the Euphoric Cascade ability wouldn't work with that DR feat from CP. The ability only confers the morale bonus from surging euphoria.

Thanks for the kinds words though :)

I think the Surging Enhancment is a perfect fit for the class, but what is the point of having an initiative boost? Don't most surging euphoria's occur while combat has already been engaged? It would take some impressive foresight in many cases to time the euphoria to actually take advantage of an initiative boost when the roll is made.

Hmmmm...that is a very good point. The only instance that would work in combat is the case of refocusing their initiative. What could I add instead? A plus 5 ft move per point the morale bonus grants? Temp hit points? I'm open to suggestions.

I think I am going to go with an increased 5 ft of movement per point surging euphoria. The question now is whether it should cap off at some point. Say, no more than a +10 or +15 extra ft of movement?

Should there be another loss of manifester level at 5th level of the PrC to balance it more?

Thoughts?

I like the PrC, it's a cool idea. I don't think you need to drop the level 5 ML bump.

I think +5' move is a good idea, uncapped, since the Surging Euphoria is fairly well capped in any case. Another possibility (albeit one that might be a bit much) is giving Fast Healing equal to the Surging Euphoria value.

Fast Healing isn't bad, but feel that it would make a better feat along the lines of the one that grants DR and for the wilder only.

I second the fast healing idea. It's much more usefull than fast movement, and would realy make up for that lost manifester level. It's better than a feat, and it should be because you're giving up more to get it!

This is an extremly cool class you've got here. Much better than a generic bard translation, but just as good at supporting a party.

I'm actually considering on giving back the lost manifester level at 1st level and adding the following to the Euphoric Cascade ability:
If the euphoric emplate is overcome by psychic enervation while attempting to trigger a euphoric cascade, he and his allies do not gain the morale bonus for this use of his wild surge ability. Furthermore, allies within the euphoric cascade's radius are shaken until the end of the euphoric emplate's next turn.
Thoughts?

I updated the PrC with the increased movement, removed the loss of manifester level at 1st level, and added the shaken/psychic enervation draw back for those caught in the cascades effect.

Update

I've actually had second thoughs on the full manifester progression and have gone back to a loss of a manifester level at 1st level.

Sysane, I'd remove the movement increase for Fast Healing X (where X is equal to the surging euphoria bonus, i.e. +1 to +3). Its short lived healing anyway. The best you can do is 18 hit points healed over a 6 rounds period at 20th level. If you make it so the Fast Healing doesn't stack with itself you don't get mutliple manifestings during combat in an attempt to get more and more healing while battling.

Also...where are the indicated numbers in Table 1-1? You say The number indicated on table 1-1 is added to the euphoric emplate's surging euphoria ability rating to determine the morale bonus given to himself and his allies. The only numbers I can see are movement increases.

Fast healing is to cleric like (i.e. burn turning attempts to gain "x"). I'm going to stay away from that.

Good catch. It should be +1 and +2 respectively. I'll correct that.

Is it really too cleric-like? When I first saw the Euphoric Emplate I thought "Wow - a novel idea to PC support". It takes an idea form the Wilder and transforms the character into a bard-like supporter - healing is also the bards purview although never as well as the Cleric. So, a little fast healing isn't all that bad.

To make it more interesting though, I would suggest Temporary Hit Points - being filled with the surging power makes them hardier. 5hp/surge point.

Ohhh, even better. I vote for that. :)

What if I left the increased movement choice and added temporary hit points as another option?

Sounds good - add it in and make people choose! :)

I think that's a great idea. But i think the class should get an imprved wild srge, since euphoia's duration depends on the power of the Wildsurge. +1 at level 5 doesn't seem like too much, considering you lose a manifester level.

It actually last twice the intensity of the wild surge. The duration of euphoric cascade of a 1st level emplate that surges their manifester level by 2 would last 4 rounds.

If the character/player is worried about increasing their wild surge ability they should continue to advance in wilder after they have taken a few levels of emplate. Having them gain another increase in wild surge thru this PrC would would be a bit much. At 5th level of this PrC an emplate would able to manifest a power, expend their focus to grant +3 to attack & damage, +3 to saving throws, +3 to armor class, +15 ft of movement, and +15 temp hit points to all allies within 20' that lasts 4 rounds as part of the same action 5 times a day. Thats pretty damn powerful without adding an increase to wild surge.

Its cool now. :)
Will we see a Dark Sun-specific version of this class Sysane, mostly in the fluff section?
Also I could make you a nice Word doc with it, à la Appendix I. Just ask.

I think I like this, the wilder's tantric emotions boosting his allies.

How about Energy resistence 5*surging euphoria bonus against 1 energy? Damage reduction equal to Surging Euphoria bonus bypassed by 1 chosen damage type (bludgeoning slashing piercing)?

I do like the suggestion of ER, but I think I'm going to stick with the 4 options I already have. I don't want to bog down the PrC with to many choices.

Considering your fluff description and their role as semi-bard I would suggest adding Diplomacy to the Skill list. That would probably be all. :) Wonderful idea and great implementation!

Edit: Made some updates to this PrC. Notably, the removal of a ML at 5th level and limited the additional bonuses provided by Surging Enhancement to only work in conjunction with euphoric cascade. As written before the euphoric emplate would gain the bonuses every time he used surging euphoria which I found to be sort of broken.
