In the description of the Expansion power it states that you gain a reach of 10' when you expand to large. What if your reach is already 10' (like with a Guisarme) does it expand to 15'? Also, what if I use 7PP to expand up to Huge...what would the reach be with a reach weapon like a Guisarme?

They put the reach thing in the power description just so you don't have to go looking for it every time (well, most people). The vast majority of people that I've seen seem to shy away from reach weapons. *shrug*

To answer your question:
A large (tall) creature has 10' reach and threatens all 10 feet of it.
Same creature with a reach weapon has 20 foot reach but does not threaten the 10 feet immediately around it.

Similar with a huge (tall) creature.
15 foot reach, threatens all of it.
With reach weapon has 30 foot reach but does not threaten the closest 15.

Reach weapons are very fun. Expansion notes that your new reach is at least 10 feet, but assumes that you're going to go check out the size rules to verify just how much. In this case, your base reach is 10', making your polearm reach 20' (and you can't hit creatures within 10'). If you use expansion to become Huge, your base reach becomes 15', making your polearm reach 30' (and you can't hit creatures within 15').

now does the "Short Haft" feat ignore all those rules about adjacent enemies doing all sizes?

I don't have a book with that one. I'd assume that when you're larger than Medium, you can ignore any references to adjacency and just hit things within your normal reach.

You guys are pretty close. The only thing is that its not *quite* as flexible as simply "ignoring the rules" for reach weapons... Instead you can, as a free action, choke up on your grip to make it not reach anymore. While it might sound like there is no difference, you can only take free actions on your turn, so at the end of you turn you have to pick a reach range and stick with it until the beginning of your next turn

Actually, Short Haft is a swift action.

...large (tall)...huge (tall)

Long and tall creatures no longer exist. Creatures now just have their size, and reach is noted in creature entries.

As I understand it, Reach weapons do not double your reach (5>10, 10>20), but instead add a flat amount to your reach, almost always 5 feet. (5>10, 10>15)

Well in that case, it makes it even less flexible as it can only but once, and only during your turn. Still not a bad thing to have.

Huh. I could have sworn they got rid of that in 3.5. Well, such is life, eh? Thank you for fighting my ignorance!

They DID get rid of Facing in 3.5, but still have Long / Tall.

So working with these rules. A 3rd level Knight/7 lvl Psychic Warrior with Improved Trip/Stand Still/Combat Reflexes/7 Point Expansion power for Huge/Bulwark Defender class skill can basically have a resonable good chance of keeping enemies at bay within the distance of 15' to 30' away from himself with a reach weapon?

Yes. Unfortunately, he's not dealing anywhere near as much damage as he could be at that level, and he will have major problems in confined spaces (like 10' wide hallways). It's a wonderful battlefield control option, but it relies on the fact that your enemies choose to engage you hand-to-hand, aren't bigger/stronger than you, and can't fly.

Don't have tumble, don't have Spring Attack, don't have mobility and a good AC, etc, etc, etc. :P

Oh, don't even get me start on what other level 20 psychic warriors can do to you at that level...

Believe me, I know. I'm working on my 3rd one. :)

I was mostly expanding your list of things that the particular one listed (large spike chain AoO tripping machine) would have issues with.

Something I've noticed, mostly with my own groups, is that people tend to see something powerful, run through a scenario in their mind when said something is at it's peak and then proceed to either run around like chicken little or laugh maniacally (depending on whether it was them who thought it up or not). I take great pleasure in pointing out the paper to the build in question's rock. :P
