| Saxis04-27-07, 02:47 PM | Will be starting a campaign back at level 1, as soon as we finish our current Epic campaign. Only 1 more game with our 25-27th level party. Sad to see all our hard work come to an end (after a 10 year campaign)! I'm going to play a Kineticist. It will be my first in-game experience as a Psion. I decided on Kineticist becuase we tend to rely heavily on blaster mages with this DM. Got it mostly figured out I think, but wanted some cross-checks on my Feat and Power Selection. Here they are: Feats: 1) Improved Initiative, *Psicrystal Affinity, *Overchannel 3) Psicrystal Containment 5) *Psionic Mediatation 6) Extend Power 9) Empower Power 10) *Expanded Knowledge (Huslte) 12) Quicken Power 15) Maximize Power, *Expanded Knowledge (Schism) 18) Expanded Knowledge (Moment of Prescience) 20) *Twin Power? Powers: 1) Inertial Armor, Force Screen, Energy Ray 2) Vigor, Psionic Grease 3) Share Pain, Energy Missile 4) Defensive Precognition, Specified Energy Adaptation 5) Body Adjustment, Energy Bolt 6) Psionic Darkvision, Eradicate Invisibility 7) Energy Adaptation, Energy Ball 8) Psionic Dimension Door, Trace Teleport 9) Energy Current, Adapt Body 10) Energy Wall, Solicit Psicrystal, *Hustle 11) Temporal Acceleration 12) Psionic True Seeing, Power Resistance 13) Evade Burst, Psionic Overland Flight 14) Psionic Disentegrate, Psionic Contingency 15) Greater Psionic Teleport, *Moment of Prescience 16) Bend Reality, Psionic Mind Blank 17) Tornado Blast 18) True Metabolism, Retrieve, *Schism 19) Psionic Plane Shift 20) Psychic Reformation, Psionic Etherealness I included my Expanded Knowledge selections in my power know list. Any suggestions/changes? |
| Thomar_of_Uointer04-27-07, 03:07 PM | Looks fine. Try not to go nova too much, kineticists lack much of the stamina that wizards have. Why not Quicken Power? If you really want to use temporal accelleration to go nova, it's a must-have. |
| crizhII04-27-07, 03:45 PM | A personal preference, I would take Touchsight in place of Eradicate Invisibility. It does not help my allies to be fair. Neither does it hinder them however, it has a better range, a better augment, no saving throw. Best of all it gives no warning. I'm also developing a real fondness for Transdimensional Power. Used creatively I think it is enormously fun. Oooo... I just noticed you had Darkvision in there too.. Two for the price of one. Score... |
| Rageheart04-27-07, 03:48 PM | And if you use Burrowing Power with Touchsight you can see through walls! |
| crizhII04-27-07, 04:00 PM | Back again. Do you really need quicken and Temporal Acceleration? Also why only one power at level 11? If you're going to take Overchannel you should definitely take Talented also, particularly if you are getting Psicrystal Containment et al. No Psychic Reformation? You could take Teleport as an EK at level 12 and then reform it at level 15 and take something more useful in its place. Don't know if Maximise is really all that great. I'm sure I read a tortuous analysis somewhere that demostrates that Empower is far better over a longer stretch of your career which will be important if your starting at level 1. I'm sure I noticed something else but my brain has turned to cheese and I must go to work. |
| Saxis04-27-07, 04:56 PM | Very good suggestions, thankyou all! The Touchsight idea is especially good, and I'll change that one right away! Any recommendations for a Darkvision replacement? I'm pretty set on keeping Maximize, Quicken and Temporal Acceleration. The DM really likes to put us into "Do or Die" situations, so I can expect to go nova during at least 1 battle/day. He also ignores the rule about Empower/Maximize being used together. We apply Empower first, and then Maximize. What I see myself doing, is getting an Emp/Max Energy Current up right away, and Solicit Psicrystal. Easy damage for relatively low cost! Then I'm able to use any combination of other powers while maintaining decent damage output every round at least. |
| Grizzled Gryphon04-27-07, 05:06 PM | Damp Power at 2nd level is neve a bad choice. Keeps all those pesky spell tossing baddies down to a minimum. I would also try and get Schism sooner than that, if I were you. I would actually suggest going Telepath, and just pick some of the Energy Powers at each level. This way, you can get Schism as quickly as possible, and still have plenty of basting powers. One thing I have noticed about people playing Psions is they try and get as many blasting powers as possible. In reality, you can have Energy Ray and Energy Ball, and be just fine. That way, you have your area affect and personal effect powers covered. Take some of the other powers that deal different kinds of damage, too. Like Crystalstorm, or the like. Hammer would be much nicer if you could get it to work on someone else. Perhaps with a crawling tattoo? The Monk or Fighter could really benefit from it. |
| Rageheart04-27-07, 05:09 PM | Darkvision replacement == Touchsight why look at them when you can feel them. |
| Saxis04-27-07, 05:18 PM | Just a couple more things... Psychic Reformation was in at level 20. I switched Moment of Prescience and Schism around, so now I get Schism at 15th. I replaced Eradicate Invis with Touchsight, and now I have no need for Darkvision. Since I already have Touchsight now, I still need a replacement for Darkvision. |
| Cala, Legend Reborn04-27-07, 05:34 PM | Darkvision replacement == Touchsight why look at them when you can feel them. I laughed. Okay, several things: Telepath is actually very good. If you're taking that many EKs, the most that you'll need out of the kineticist list is energy missile and energy ball. Energy push is also very solid; remember they make the Strength check regardless of their initial save. And getting Schism earlier is better for maximizing your blast power. Also, the telepath's first-level power mindlink is an excellent combat strategy enabler, as well as communications link when dungeon-crawling. Link everyone up, send the scouts ahead and let them relay the info back to you in 'real-time'. I see some good staple self-buffs on that list, namely inertial armor, force screen, and vigor. Here's an idea that you don't have to waste so many turns in combat buffing yourself: the Link Power metapsionic feat (from CPsi). You pay the cost of two powers in one turn, let's say force screen (our 'base' power) with vigor linked to it (both augmented as necessary), where the combined cost cannot be higher than your manifester level. Your base power, force screen comes into effect immediately. Then, at the start of your next turn, your vigor hits play automatically. A turn saved. The powers crystal shard and damp power (the latter from CPsi) are very very good. Shard in particular, is a ranged touch attack that allows no save or power/spell resistance. And damp is good against many many different effects. It's saved my telepath's ass from a potentially-lethal disintegrate; that's how good it is. Psychic reformation at 20? That power is surprisingly useful, and it enables things like incarnate tricks, where when you level up you take that and the power you want to permafy (detect psionics is always nice when you don't need to spend PP everytime), then reform them away once you're done so you're not going around with two powers you don't need anymore. And a :cookie: to you for taking the Psionic X of one of the most game-breaking first-level spells. I'm talking about grease, by the way. My :twocents:, have fun. |
